Iran plans to test icbm on monday

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - An Iranian semi-official news agency is reporting that the country's elite Revolutionary Guard has launched sophisticated rockets during military exercises.

The Monday report by Tasnim, an agency considered to be close to the Revolutionary Guard, said the launch of "smart and advanced" rockets came during an annual three-day maneuver which began on Monday in Iran's central desert.

The report did not elaborate on the model of the rockets or their capabilities, but said they successfully hit their targets.

No change has been made in the content of former and new U.S. officials’ language,” he told reporters on the sidelines of his visit to industrial projects in Alborz province.

The top security official said various figures in the United States have always “adopted hostile approaches towards independent countries.” 

However, he said, U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments on the chaotic situation in the Western countries is something new that had not previously been stated by U.S. officials. 

“Such comments show that the U.S. has stopped making efforts to whitewash the chaotic image of the country.” 

Government making every effort to remove obstacles to economic activities

During his visit to Alborz province, Shamkhani also highlighted the importance of boosting capability in various areas, especially in the economic sector.

National power can be boosted with reliance on “internal capacities”, Shamkhani stated. 

He also attached great importance to economy as a key component of national and international security.

“Economic security will lead to improvement of business atmosphere and removal of impediments to production and investment,” the former defense chief remarked.

Shamkhani noted that the government is making every efforts necessary to remove the obstacles to economic activities and increase employment opportunities.

He added that the private sector can prove more effective by using knowledge-based products and focus on research and development.

TEHRAN – Iran unveiled on Monday five new military products, including a guided rocket and assault weapons.

The military products included Fajr 5 guided artillery rocket, Misagh 3 shoulder-fired missile, a 40-milimeter grenade launcher, a caliber gun and a pistol.

During a ceremony in Tehran, Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan announced that Iran will mass produce the state-of-the-art defense equipment.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dehqan said the production of the new weapons will boost Iran’s air defense power and the military forces’ capabilities in armed combats.

Dehqan hailed the Islamic Republic’s self-sufficiency in arms production and the diversity of the weapons produced.

He noted that the weapons produced by the Defense Ministry have increased by 69 percent during the last three years.

“During this time, over 115 types of defense systems and new military products have been manufactured and put to use,” he added.

The Islamic Republic has made great advances in recent years in manufacturing a broad range of military equipment and systems.

In its latest show of force in the north-central province of Semnan which started on Saturday, the IRGC demonstrated the country’s military might, intelligence command and defense capabilities.

The military exercise was conducted a day after the U.S. government imposed new sanctions on Tehran due to an alleged ballistic missile test.

During the drills, different missiles and radar systems were showcased.

A day before the beginning of the military exercise, U.S. President Donald Trump said Tehran was “playing with fire”.

Iranian Foreign Ministry dismissed reports that the military drills were intended to send a message to the new U.S. administration.

“There is no need to test Mr. Trump as we have heard his views on different issues in recent days... We know him quite well,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said

EHRAN – Iran has successfully test-fired its newest marine cruise missile in ongoing naval exercises in southern waters of the Persian Gulf, Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan said on Monday.

“The newest marine missile cruise, dubbed ‘Nasir’, was launched and hit the target successfully during the massive military drill in the country’s southern waters,” Dehqan was quoted as saying.

The minister did not give any more details.

The Iranian navy is staging its annual navy drills in an area of two million square kilometers, spanning the Strait of Hormuz, the Sea of Oman, north of the Indian Ocean and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.

Iran has developed homegrown military hardware over the past years, learning from a long war waged by Iraq in the 1980s, when the country ran on a shrinking storage of arms and equipment imported mainly from the U.S.
