    Dear Mr. Kasowitz:

I write in response to your letter of October 12, 2016 to Dean Baquet concerning your client Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for President of the United States. You write concerning our article “Two Women Say Donald Trump Touched Them Inappropriately” and label the article as “libel per se.” You ask that we “remove it from [our] website, and issue a full and immediate retraction and apology.” We decline to do so.

The essence of a libel claim, of course, is the protection of one’s reputation. Mr. Trump has bragged about this non-consensual sexual touching of women. He has bragged about intruding on beauty pageant contestants in their dressing rooms. He acquiesced to a radio host’s request to discuss Mr. Trump’s own daughter as a “piece of ass.” Multiple women not mentioned in our article have publicly come forward to report on Mr. Trump’s unwanted advances. Nothing in our article has had the slights effect on the reputation that Mr. Trump, through his own words and actions, has already created for himself.

But there is a larger and much more important point here. The women quoted in our story spoke out on an issue of national importance – indeed, as an issue that Mr. Trump himself discussed with the whole nation watching during Sunday night’s presidential debate. Our reporters diligently worked to confirm the women’s accounts. They provided readers with Mr. Trump’s response, including his forceful denial of the women’s reports. It would have been a disservice not just to our readers but to democracy itself to silence their voices. We did what the law allows: We published newsworthy information about a subject of deep public concern. If Mr. Trump disagrees, if he believes that American citizens had no right to hear what these women had to say and that the law of this country forces us and those who would dare to criticize him to stand silent or be punished, we welcome the opportunity to have a court set him straight.

    Sincerely,

    David E. McCraw

Plaintiff would need to prove published information is false and newspaper didn't have the right to reveal the truth.  This may be hard for Trump to prove.

There's no way in hell Trump will follow through with the lawsuit.  He will have to give discovery under oath about his past actions with women.  He will be ask not just about those 2 women but any women over his lifetime.  No way will he allow himself to be exposed like that over an election he knows he's most likely to lose.

And once again weseerhe kryptonite for trump and trump supporters...

    Truth and reality

Buti think it is one thing for trump to spout a bunch of lies on twitter or in a debate.  It's another thing to try to down this road and have to go to court.  But this is a sign that trump is falling to pieces as this is what he does when he is all mad and butthurt, he sues.  But this just does not seem very planned out or strategic.  It seems more like a bully type of move trying to get his way because he has been exposed to the world as to the type of person he really is and cannot face that truth and reality.  And because he lacks the character and ability to handle truth and reality he sues it

I don't think scares trump at all.  Trump acts fearless.  Be it ignorantly fearless, but fearless none the less.

There is so much we don't know about what type of president we would get out of trump because he has no experience or record of public services

But it seems like suing and lawyering up would be his default based on what we see from him. Seems like if people really want this they should have elected someone that was an attorney.   But then perhaps you wouldn't see crazy law suit and an overdependence on needing lawyers to fight battle for them because an educated attorney wouldn't use lawyering up and suing as such a crutch to dealing with things not going his way.

But then perhaps you wouldn't see crazy law suit and an overdependence on needing lawyers to fight battle for them because an educated attorney wouldn't use lawyering up and suing as such a crutch to dealing with things not going his way.

i just don't see what's in it for him.  he can't win.  that's a joke.  i assume he knows it but his lawyers surely do.  he'd have to spend a bunch of money on lawyers and then they'd get to dig into his history and ask him questions under oath for hours.  it would be a mess for him.

this sounds like something ridiculous he says as a defense mechanism when the media is blasting him.  his supporters like it, but anyone with any sense knows these lawsuit threats are complete bullshit.

that's why the NY times responded like they did.  no one likes to invite being sued but they'd have a field day with trump.

Trump who has zero experience in government and public Service actually has tons of experience in suing people. So he probably knows he has no chance and that he would get further exposed for the rapist he is in the process.

But you have to consider the low informatjon uneducated mentality of the trump supporter who doesn't know this.  Trump supporter logic would say that trump wouldn't be doing this it unless it is all lies.  And therefore this proves with out a doubt that every negative thing about trump is a lie and product of a biased media reporting reality which of course is biased against trump.

So perhaps this is not quite just a knee jerk emotional defense mechanism because trump is embarrassed and reeling.
