His comment makes a lot of sense. The Democratic landslide of 1964 was followed by a Republican victory in 1968, and the 1972 Republican landslide was followed by a Democratic victory in 1976.

Any predictions about a Democratic victory in 2020 based on a Trump wipeout are premature.

I think what trump did tho was not only destory the GOP but it has made the majority voting base look stupid and has made foxnews and the right winged talking heads look stupid.

So much of the 21st century GOP depended upon the gullibility of the GOP voting base and the talking heads and foxnews to program the gullible masses. So to me it's going to take a while but if the GOP can build a party with intelligent people grounded in principles rather than running around like a chicken with out a head emotionally opposing Obama and now Hillary based on the prescribed rhetoric and talking points, they will truly rebuild stronger than ever.

And even tho I am a non-partisan independent I am hoping this happens. Been hoping the GOP wakes up and gets a clue for quite some time now

Disagree that Trumps ultimate success is attributable to the gullible masses being programmed.   Washington is completely broken and they want some1 to go in there and blow things up.   They have consensus on many issues (tax reform, not selling guns to those on terrorist watch list, etc) , but due to lobbyists and other factors nothing ever gets done.   Except for the 20% wack job repubs, who would have voted for trump regardless, the remaining don&#x27;t care bout all the crazy stuff he says.  They want change.  The same reason so many felt the Bern.

I actualy think that dems and leftists have felt that Obama as a centrist is was too far right... So Bernie represented a candidate with actual leftist values and ideas after you had Nobel peace prize winner Obama actually killing bin Ladin and sending out his killer drones... And siding with wallstreet after he said he would side with Main Street.

So to me the democrats got fooled by Obama thinking he would be different and actually embody progressive ideals and instead we got a centrist that wanted to be liked. Hillary screams centrist also so it makes sense for the youth and those that did not like that Obama was not a liberal wanted someone that talked their language

To a degree but more importantly Obama promised "change"  and delivered much of the same.  The people on both sides want change and a govt that functions.   An establishment candidate like Clinton doesn&#x27;t get that and won&#x27;t deliver any substantive changes.   The fact that such flawed candidates as the Bern and Trump have flourished this cycle supports this idea
