Yeah, it's funny how liberals have become what they've labeled conservatives as for so many years. They're judgemental. Divisive. Uninclusive. That's why the party has become stale and old. And to your point about reporting, it goes to the point of what i've been saying about the media for a while now. The media, both liberal and conservative, both have a vested interest in keeping the populace divided. That's why for all of the stories of racial unity in this country, let a fight involving a black and white person break out and guess what will be on the national news. There are things that I diaagres with Tox on, things I think his viewpoint is slightly askew on, and things I agree with him on 100%. Our ability to talk about it like adults, without malice or hate, is what will push the proverbial conversation further.
And your numbers are off, Tox. If you mention that by welfare you mean any form of government assistance you could probably make those numbers work. However, those numbers don't differentiate someone receiving medicare from someone getting a check. It's splitting hairs to you and I, and I think we can agree that the entire system needs an overhaul, but to some random who comes in this thread, who hasn't done their own research, it looks like 54% of black people are getting a check. The welfare your numbers represent can be medicare, disabilty, SSI, Section 8, ect. And even then, your numbers are off. Not enough to invalidate your point though, so I won't argue. My question was what was your aim in makinf this point. If it was to say the system is broken, you could've made that point without bringing up race. If it was to make the point that there is a higher percentage per capita of African-Americans receiving government benefits, well that's a statistic and therefore undebatable. It serves no purpose to bring that up. This is why, though true, it comes off as race baiting.
Now, if your goal, (I know your goal but i'm speaking from the stance of someone with less interaction than us) if your goal is to point out the negative effects of public assistance, on any population, but specifically on African Americans, then that's a conversation worth having. There are better ways to broach the subject than by posting ridiculous quotes by Sowell, who while highly educated, can miss the mark sometimes. And while Sowell can be controversial, there are plenty of African-American scholars who share these same sentiments. Even my own father has lectured on the subject, and specifically how the welfare system contributes to fractured family structures. My disagreement wasn't with your core point, or even with you quoting Sowell. I disagree with Sowell's comparison to slavery. As I said before, chains and shackles were the vehicle that kept the enslaved captive. Not depedence. Now on the point of modern day, financial captives, dependence plays a huge role. A lot is lost in delivery. We live in an internet meme generation where people put up lone quotes and think they are making a point. I'll always slice that in half. There are better ways. Be an adult, make a thesis statement...

The problem is the people who control the narrative of said movement, (i.e. the media, politicians) have no actual vested interest in said movement. They want ratings and votes, respectively. So they say, "Believe this... Do that... These people are the enemy."

Again, it makes us no better than them. What if they don't have intelligence? What if they aren't even guilty. Lord knows our agencies sh*t the bed on a regular. It would have to a smoking gun suspect and even then, should be handled in secrecy. And the fact is nobody can keep a secret. It'll get exposed and be a nightmare.
Absolutely agree. Torture is a subjective premise. You intensify the interrogation with a qualified professional who knows when to lean on em and what questions to ask. And how you shape said question.... and then you dispose of them
