That's an indictment on Trump.  2016 and 2020 should the bizarro world of politics.  Hillary was an awful candidate and lost because people hated her... 2020 Trump proved he was an awful president and lost because people hated him.

Joe Biden is the equivalent of paint drying... on normal non-pandemic year, Biden would get kaleidoscoped by Trump... however pandemic and shit economy has consequences.

Though strains differ from year to year, most people have spent their entire lives building up some semblance of immunity to the flu. Most people, even anti-vaxxers, have had a flu shot at some point in their lives so that while, again, strains do differ, most people's bodies are atleast primed to make influenza antibodies. Couple this with wearing masks and social distancing and voila. The corona viruses, while in some form causing an estimated 15-30% of common colds, are exponentially less prevalent. And this form of it, SARS-CoV2, is much more severe than the flu. So more people are exhibiting symptoms than what is common of the flu. None of this is Rocket Surgery. You ask, "Why isn't wearing masks and social distancing working for Covid?" and the very scary answer is that it is working. What we are seeing, in my estimation, is literally the best case scenario. Early estimates had deaths in the millions and that's where we'd be if not for social distancing and wearing masks. I know there are those among us that like to blame Trump but other than saying a bunch of dumb shite there isn't a whole lot he could have done differently. This thing was lab engineered to do exactly what it is doing and what we are seeing is literally the best case scenario.

You see, SARS-CoV2 was more of an absolute killer. More severe than it's sibling. This posed a problem, if one is to believe that this was an act of warfare. The problem that people who came into contact almost always exhibited symptoms. They were often hospitalized. They were taken out of the general population, either by death or by quarantine. This prevents spread. SARS-CoV2 can hide in asymptomatic people. This helps with spread. Viruses are amazing. Much more like animals than people realize. So it could've evolved to do this on it's own, essentially to further it's species. I just don't think it did. I think it was genetically modified in a Wuhan lab. 

Republican electors did cast votes today for Trump that will not count due to the winner take all electoral vote requirement. Republican electors said their vote is symbolic and a vote of support for Trump by the state of Nevada.

Experts said this not because it takes incredibly long to create the vaccine. Creating the vaccine is apparently relatively easy with modern science. Reverse engineering type of thing. Under normal circumstances the time crunch is in the trials. Trials usually take upwards of years. Desperate times call for desperate measures and approval was rushed. Look at the wording. "Safe and effective." We don't really know how safe these new vaccines are because we haven't had a full length trial. This is why many, myself included, plan to wait 1-2 years before taking a vaccine.
