Terrorism is alive and well so while my hat is off to Obama for calling the hit on BL there has been no improvement in the grand scheme of terrorism or Al Queda.

also Reagan neutered Qaddafi...
and then under another Republican  president, Qaddafi gave up his nukes

Gaddafi wanted to nationalize his oil and the country is rich with gold. He talked about a United States of Africa, using the gold standard......basically he was a threat to what we see as our power and clout on the world stage so we and some NATO allies decided he should go. Dont kid yourself that it was for humanitarian reasons.

Who is in power now?
Are they an improvement over Gaddafi?
Do they support the West?
Only time will tell my friend

Nope, I am glad we are getting out. But my question to you would be what do we do if (when) Al Queda takes it back over?

The whole middle east is in turmoil...so tell me who is in power and who are the background players and who are the rebels in:
Syria
Egypt
Libya

and what is our foreign policy in regard to these 3 countries? I say ours as in the UNITED STATES!

I dont say it in terms of D's and R's.

When they back terrorists who attack the United States, dam right they will be in turmoil. Would you want to just slap their hand ? And don't tell me Gadaffi  was an innocent bystander.

Thats a tough general observation. We tried that in the past and it ended up very badly. Maybe we are too active, but to go too far in the other direction is not the best solution either.

Wall, yes it's a fine balance for sure. Right now we are still pushing democracy down everyone's throats. I don't think that is a good thing. It's a complicated world and we are dealing with countries that have their own culture, values and religious beliefs. Their isn't a one size fits all solution

But also wall, it's not the past anymore. It's a much different world. We can strike anywhere in the world on a moments notice. What would happen if we told the world that we were closing all our bases worldwide and wanted to foster a world of peace amongst countries. What would happen I wonder?
China over runs Tawian? Attacks Japan?
North Korea invades the South?

What would happen in the Middle East?

What would Iran do? Would they attack Israel?

Remember we can strike any country at a moments notice from right here on our own soil. We can't however put troops on the ground or use our bribed "friends" airstrips bc we have vacated their countries

I actually think it would be worse to be isolationist now versus in the past.

The threat to this country is more than in the past, the time it takes and the damage that can be done is more than in the past.

The speed of execution is faster, the damage greater..

I dont like the libertarian view of global military hiding. I dont like the way our military has acted over the past 50 yrs but I dont like the idea of ignoring and hiding either.

What is keeping those threats at bay right now?
And what do you mean by the damage that can be done?

Do you believe our threats come mainly from terrorists or do you think a country would launch an attack on us.

Believe me I am not proposing isolationism but like Teddy said, walk softly and carry a big stick.
