Deem Trump ‘Dangerously Unfit’ For President
“While we—like all Americans —had hoped that Donald Trump
would govern wisely, he has disappointed millions of voters
who put their faith in him and has demonstrated that he is
dangerously unfit to serve another term,” reads the statement.
“We are profoundly concerned about the course of our nation
under the leadership of Donald Trump,” reads the statement,
which accuses the president of
lacking “character and competence” and engaging in
“corrupt behavior that renders him unfit to serve as president.”
A group of 73 former U.S. National Security officials who served
under GOP administrations, including former CIA and FBI chiefs,
endorsed Democratic nominee Joe Biden in a joint statement on
Thursday, joining the growing number of prominent
Republicans to depart from their party for this election.
The former National Security officials say that while their policies
don’t necessarily align with Joe Biden’s, they believe
“he will restore the dignity of the presidency” and
“reassert America’s role as a global leader.”

(CNN) Former chairman of the Republican National Committee
Michael Steele, is joining the Lincoln Project, a group of Republicans
working to prevent President Donald Trump's re-election.
"I get my role as a former national chairman. I get it, but I'm an American.
I get my role as a former party leader. I'm still an American,"
Steele told Nicole Wallace on MSNBC, adding,
"And these things matter to me more than aligning myself with a party
that has clearly decided it would rather be sycophantic than principled."
"In the two decades I've known Michael Steele, he's never been afraid
to speak truth to power. As a former RNC Chairman, Michael's decision
to join the Lincoln Project's efforts to oust Trump and his enablers is a
big deal," Tara Setmayer, a senior adviser for The Lincoln Project and
a CNN contributor, said in a statement. "It's truly 'country over party'
personified. Michael's invaluable experience and brand of tell it like it
is politics will fit right in on this pirate ship. Welcome aboard."

The case centers around Perry’s veto last year of $7.5 million in biennial funding for the Travis County Public Integrity Unit. Perry threatened to withhold the money unless District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg resigned, pointing to her April 2013 arrest for drunk driving. In that arrest, Lehmberg was caught on tape becoming belligerent as officers booked her into jail. After Lehmberg fulfilled a 45-day sentence and completed a treatment program, she refused to resign and Perry vetoed the money. A Travis County grand jury is looking into whether Perry tried to bribe a public official into stepping down, if he abused his position by using public funds to “obtain a benefit,” or whether he tried to coerce Lehmberg into a “specific performance of [her] official duty.” Perry has defended his actions, saying he was within his constitutional authority to veto appropriations.
