Don't Panic ..not a bad beat story, just a very strange way a guy I met pllays...
Last night I played 20-40 NL at commerce casino during the LA poker classic,I played cash no tourneys.
The games were LIVE there were three must move games into the main 20-40 NL game. Much bigger games also but I played 20-40.
At my table before I went to the main game there was a guy showing one card once heads up EVERY TIME..... YOU CHOOSE THE CARD AND HE WAS WINNING.
I was sitting next to a young kid with about 12k in front of him, we were astonished as we talked about it. I bought in for 10k which was less then most guys had, some had 100k in front.
So the guy (15k in front) plays loose and is in alot of pots showing bluffs, if no one calls, bottom line is he is an action player and seems like a good guy.
I am on button....In first position he makes it 200 we have four callers including me when the flop comes.
I have 10-7 spades....flop is 3d 4s 7d..
I have top pair back door flush draw, lousy kicker.....not much

normally I am pretty done here if I here 3000 from anywhere... but the show me a card guy bets 3000..everyone else folds to me, like I said normally I am gone BUT I get to see a card from monty hall down the table. I pick the card on his left, (he spreads em out) he shows me the 6h . So now there are only 4 cards in deck that can beat me all the 5's for the flopped straight. Question is He raised pre flop so 5 6 off? or 5 6 of hearts from first position at an action game where it can get reraised preflop at any time to 1000? So I go in the tank replay the hand in my heas and I push all in knowing that is his move on turn maybe I can chase him out here. because again all I have is top pair shitty kicker
He calls and shows me the 5d 6h for the nut straight, it holds up and he beats me for a pot over 20k.
Amazing thing is if I see the other card I muck, if I see the 5d he could have a flush draw with the over card that could beat me, straight flush, straight flush draw, straight draw of course, etc etc, I see that card even though I still have him possibly beat I do not call 3000 or push for 10000 into a pot of 1000. His unique play won him this pot.
He was a good guy and made the usual apologies many of us make when we take down a big pot, he later introduced himself when we ran into each other on the floor, I was charging my iphone in the corner and ran into him coming back from mens room. Like I said good guy.
Interesting how this guy plays isn't it? I still do not see how he can be a winning player, it worked this time but it makes no sense to me.
Ever seen anyone who does this in relatively high stakes?
Any ideas?
