Geelong v Collingwood

Hi guys well we gonna witness yet another classic match this saturday as the 1st placed Magpies tackle my pussies under the glaring lights of the MCG. Important to note that the weather is likely to be fine in the evening but during the day there will be rain so except the ground to be slippery by kickoff although I feel there will be more scoring this time around as opposed to last time they met in round 9.

Since that game Collingwood have gone onto a 8-1 winning streak whilst the cats have had a couple of losses. It is important to note the team change since that round 9 clash for Collingwood with Blair, Brown, Goldsack and O'Bree since put on the sidelines through injury and form. They are really the form side of the competition at the moment and if words are anything to go by then both team's coaches are certainly playing the game down to a point of nothing can be gained with the outcome. Collingwood should go into the game favourites due to their form as the Cats are still building momentum and fitness to key players. Another thing to note from the round 9 clash is that Geelong were missing key players in Corey and Ottens whilst Rooke will be ready come the 2nd round of the finals.

It's going to be a great match and much more open game that round 9 so expect more goals but you cannot go past form and I do buy into the notion that teams can peak to early and for Collingwood it may prove to be their achilles heel as the Bulldogs, Saints and Cats will be in peak form come Preliminary finals weekend. Whoever wins the match will have a clear 2 game lead and can afford to rest key players in the final 4 weeks and for Geelong this is important but form is crucial and Collingwood are in extremely good form and must say from a one-eyes cats fan they are playing very exciting and attractive footy. I am going to take Collingwood +6.5 as the final outcome will only be a a couple of goals or less.

*Important stat is Stevie J is 4 goals away from his 300th career goal and after 6 last week the word inside is that he's in brilliant form so expect another bag from him.

welcome to the forums mate, nice to see your comments.  I was at the Round 9 match and will be there Saturday, Collingwood will certainly have to improve the end margin in the match was probably indicating a closer game than it actually was considering around the ground geelong had the better of the play. Having said that Collingood did miss a lot of easy shots on goal. Should be a good game.

yeh I agree but I just sense that Collingwood have more to play for in this game than Geelong. It's old news I know but Davis, Didak really need to put in a good game for them to win and I feel they will as Davis has shown significant maturity in some big matches this year so far. Cats are simply awesome everyone knows that as they can score quickly and seem to have an extra gear if needed when a game is even. The fact Geelong won the last game by 6 goals without our number 1 ruckman is pretty telling as Jolly's influence will be cut to even steven's with Ottens. The midfield battle will be worth the ticket entrance alone so I can't wait....wish I was there

ok guys sorry but I am going to change my original pick to Geelong ML, considered Cats under 39.5 but too risky. Simply put....I just think Geelong will want to prove to the public and footy world they are one of the all-time great sides in history and when you put every player from each team side by side and compare, Geelong wins hands down. Bartel, Selwood, Chapman, Corey (if he plays), Ablett and Ling are simply too crucial in these types of games. Cats are use to the pressure of the big stage and I sense they are going to produce one of those great performances that leaves Collingwood thinking twice about their success in 2010. Sure they have beaten the Saints and Bulldogs but the cats are another beast and yeh ok sure I'm a cats supporter but I sense that Collingwood along with some of their supporters are getting far too cocky and that does not rub off well against the Geelong boys. Too many forward options, Mooney, Hawkins, Brynes, Stokes, Johnson, Chapman and J Pod. Cloke's impact will be minimized and Didak will have his hands full against either Enright or Hunt. As Mick Malthouse said after the loss in the preliminary final last year "Our best against Geelong's best they are a 6 goal better side".

So, from Pies +6.5 to Geelong ML to Cats by 34?

Take Cats Under 39.5 if you think they win as they won't crush Collingwood.

not a very good option taking cats under 39.5 because a 6 goal win is similar to a 2 goal win for any other team far too risky. I do however feel the end result could be around the mark though...just getting a feeling from the body language of the coach and some of the players that they want a win and the 'want' is the main key, Collingwood are too arrogant and that stinks not going with my heart more my mind and cats win easy, good luck

And how is a 6-goal Geelong win similar to a 2-goal win for any other team?  I don't get the logic here.  Cats, if they win, will not demolish the Pies.  We won't see a 40+ point whooping.  So, if you like the Cats to win, I recommended taking the Under 39.5.  Or split your bet between ML and Under 39.5.

As much as I hate the Pies I do think they they will this game.  Cats have not looked like their impregnable self. The Cats forward line I think is a liability it is not a set or stable forward line. You have evidence in Brisbane, Saints and Sydney as to what that means to a team.

Yeah they won against the Swans but the Swans are in disaray. Swans also had 27 attempts against the Cats 25. Cats beat the Lions another team in disarray. Prior to that Adelaide beat them, They just beat the Hawks by 2 (Hawks had more shots at goal) points, they beat North Melbourne (bottom 8 team). They were belted by the Saints in the game before that (Saints with no forward line). You can't be confident when the Cats have beaten 3 bottom eight teams, lost to a bottom 8 team and been belted by a top eight team.

There is an apathy in the Geelong club at the moment and if you have been watching the Cats games you would have seen it. Maybe they spark on saturday, maybe not. Pies love the G, the Pies supporters will overshadow the Cats supporters etc etc.

headoverheart, it's my opinion only and I certainly won't be listening to a yank when it comes to AFL even if you are from oz no way would I take cats under 39.5 did you not see the last game v collingwood? Geelong played 5 minutes of brilliant football and the rest of the match they were mediocre so I have a feeling they play full on brilliant footy the full 4 quarters. If you like the Magpies then make your own thread on them

I was at the Swans game yesterday. Lovely thing to see how psychology affects a team. They got belted by the Dees last week and belted the Hawks this week. I hope now some of the teams that were beaten by the Pies do the same thing to them come finals time.

You then change you mind, say you are betting with your heart, and gonna take the Cats.  You then give a margin or 34, but say you are betting ML.

You then deny you said Cats by 34, even though it is there for all to see.
