i agree w/ you on everyone of these ive ever read, vanzack. i jusst rarely have anything to add.
 
somebody said you wouldnt tell your team to get an interference on purpose, i guess because its a gentlemens game now, but college players do it all the time its not a spot foul in college. if youre beat deep grab some jersey. makes sense. if youre beat in the endzone w/ no time left knock everybody out. makes sense. now the arguement does come in: did they have time hit cooley, but not make a play on the ball. i cant really say, but i agree w/ the concept. you dont just tackle everybody at the 5 because you might get a turnover, which is very possible w/ campbell trying to score from the 15.

i see your point but it wouldn't "look" good to do it - for the team or the league or the player doing it. kinda reminds me of that tyson match where he was losing so he just decided to bite the guy's ear off

id add vanzack is probably a clock management genius in some madden. i dont know about a great nfl coach though.

that sounds good in theory, but it doesn't stop the play, hence a throw to the endzone that is caught would still be a td.

Van...my only disagreement with your reasoning is that you've held Jason Campbell & company to three points in the first half up to that point.  If I'm Reid then I'm welcoming Campbell to throw the ball and thinking that I've honestly got a better chance at forcing a turnover against a running team who is forced to pass in the last 30 seconds.  Obviously it didnt work out for them but I would have more faith in what I think to be a pretty good defense (at that point in the game) to make a play.  I just couldnt tell my guys to tackle the receivers immediately off the line when I feel they have a decent chance to get a pick if I let Campbell try to make a play with his arm

you are right on when it comes to football.  i don't know why we don't see a lot of what you would do when it comes right down to it.  while it may be true that it might look bad to carry out what you prescribe it also gives that team the best chance of winning period.  sports, especially professional, is all about winning bottom line.  is it not?

Of course he shouldnt have called the timeout to "ice the kicker".  It was obvious that because Wash didnt have time to really explain to Campbell that he had no timeouts and needed to throw to the endzone, they didnt want to take a chance on the clock running out.  So Andy Reid called the timeout for them and they change their mind.
 
So now Reid calls the timeout and should have instructed his team TO TACKLE A GUY IF HE IS GOING TO CATCH THE BALL.  Yes, just tackle him.  Interference.  Wash would have had the ball at the 1 yard line with 8 seconds left.  If they run another play, do the same thing, until the clock is down to nothing and they have to decide on a FG or a play.
 
I dont know when coaches are going to do this.  Tackle the receiver on all plays until the clock is at zero.  Then Wash tries the FG.

 

this play did not blow it. it was philly's inability to get it in the end zone because they have no playmakers at WR. Games aren't decided by one play vanzack. did you play sports as a young lad?

I guess my main point was, that as a gambler, you give me the Redskins offense on the 15 yard line with 14 seconds and no timeouts left and I say they are going to not score a touchdown more times than they will score a TD.  We could call a field goal a push.  A touchdown for the Skins and you win the bet.  A turnover or a sack causing the clock to run out and I win the bet.  I honestly believe I would win that bet.  I don't think Reid is a great coach by any means but I don't disagree with his thinking there (though its highly likely that he never went through that thought process).

They would have a free QB sneak from the 1/8th yard line cuz the half can't end on a defensive penalty.  or the 1/4 yard line.  And any team would line up and sneak it and get it and they would get any benefit of a call from the refs if you tackled a receiver on purpose 3 or 4 times in a row.  Pretty bad "tactic"!!!

with the clock rules he had his guys go off sides on 3 consecutive kickoffs to run the clock at the half
