Alright douchemonkeys, lets say its 1st down at the 1 yard line and the offense has no timeouts and there is 8 seconds left.
 
What do you do?
 
You either give them one throw to the endzone, and one FG - OR - you tackle them on 1st and make them only have 1 play to score.

At some point, yes, both of those coaches played football.  They learned the game somewhere, and it wasn't on paper.

hate to ruin the discussion, but this is not even a valid tactic

Unfair Acts

ARTICLE 3. The following are unfair acts:

a. If a team refuses to play within two minutes after ordered to do so by the referee.

b. If a team repeatedly commits fouls that can be penalized only by halving the distance to its goal line.

c. If an obviously unfair act not specifically covered by the rules occurs

during the game (A.R. 4-2-1-II).

PENALTY—The referee may take any action he considers equitable, including assessing a penalty, awarding a score, or suspending or forfeiting the game.

 

Vanzack's theory applies under B, and if that's the case Referee can just give them the TD anyways.

btw, that's from a current NCAAF rule... if they are doing this in NCAAF, i am sure they are applied in pro game as well.
