Week Six Contest

If you add plays in more than one thread, you are eliminated. The only exception would be if you realize right after you post that you forgot to add numbers correctly, and post immediately after. 

If you go to zero, you are eliminated. 

You must post your bankroll. I will be checking periodocally. If you are incorrect in your total and it impacts placings, you will forfeit any prizes. This is not complicated. If you have trouble with math, use a calculator. 

All lines are -110 except for moneylines which are the actual lines. 

You can play any amount and any amount of games. The lines are from oddshark, recently acquired by Covers. If you look at our website, you will see an odds section. The lines we use are KALSHI.

IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT SOME PEOPLE DON'T SEE ACTUAL LINES. THE LINES ARE FROM THE ODDS SECTION IN THE FORUM. IF YOU ARE NOT SEEING ANY LINES FROM THE LINK, LET ME KNOW. IF YOU DO NOT SEE THEM, USE DRAFT KINGS LINES AND STATE YOU ARE DOING SO. 

1) All of your plays must be made at the same time and you must state the line. Any side, moneyline, or total from oddshark. First half lines are allowed. Obviously, because of this rule, no second half or in game bets. There are no parlays. All plays, except money lines, are -110.

2) Once you post your plays, there are no changes. No exceptions. Just like when making a play online, you need to make sure your play and the amounts are accurate before posting. 

3) You may not exceed your bankroll (obviously).

4) When you post your plays, you must also post the line. This is to ensure the line is accurate based on when you posted your play. So, use the below example.

 I have a quick question.  I see that there is at least 1 player who has included in their plays a “Team Total” bet.  I’m asking as they have been successful (kudos to them, if they weren’t I wouldn’t care; it would also be of interest to me to look at and consider if I could find them and they were permissible).  According to your post above (post #1) it says

In the sentences quoted above, it also indicates that these must be from oddshark.  I’m someone who is not able to see Kalshi on it, however the last post I saw indicated the line being used by this player was from DraftKings.  When I look at the Covers Oddshark page, and select the NFL odds, I see where you can choose a sport (NFL), what type of wager (Spread, Total or Moneyline) and also what part of the game the number is for (Full game, 1st half, 2nd half, 1st Quarter, 2nd Q, 3rd Q, and 4th Q).  I do not see any option for Team Totals.  I also tried to then select Prop bet section (horizontally listed across the top along with other options) and only see a few types, like rushing attempt, pass completions, etc.  I do not see options, even in the Prop betting section, that lists Team Totals as an option (although you do not specifically include it in the bets you list as what can be wagered on).  

Is making a bet on something like a Team Total permissable?

As another point, I have also noticed that it appears to me someone is posting/using a total bankroll that is much higher than it is, even after you directed them to correct this by only using their first bet.  I haven’t mentioned this previously as you have indicated that if they are still in the running to win as we approach the end of the contest that in such a situation the player would be DQ’d as the wagers were based on numbers that were not accurately reflected and it’s probably not worth your time unless it would matter, however just point out that the contest currently is not free from such situations. 

I have not looked at the coming weeks matchups or lines and may still make a post with plays later this week.

 Yes id like that clarified as well. I think most of us assumed it was sides , totals and 1/2 time lines. Are player totals also available? Quarter lines?  I wouldnt worry about someone with a wrong bankroll it will come to light at the end.

Regarding team total....my bad IF it was not permissable...i assume that IF it was not permissable it would have and should have been pointed out by señor djbrow as it was posted more than 48 hours before gametime

The team totals are available @ draftkings...google draftkings nfl lines n follow...i guess that it doesnt make a difference if i do it from covers site or direct dk site....

I had a nicely written and thoughtful post made and was proofreading it before hitting submit when the screen changed and I lost it all.  I’m not going to spend the same amount of time writing it over, but will mention just a few key points.

I haven’t spent lots of time reading this forum or posts in a couple weeks and couldn’t tell you the username of the person when I wrote it, however your response suggests it’s you (I believe it was only 1 person doing this). 

I’m a very detailed and observant person.  Things stand out to me, I don’t look for them.  I also ask questions for understanding and clarification.  I understand that everyone is not like me.  In reading the forum and posts, I would notice that nobody else is making these types of bets and there is probably a reason why (whether they are not actually allowed, or are perceived as not being allowed) and would ask djbrow for clarification first, before making any such bets so as not to be DQ’d.  I understand not everyone would do what I would do.

I find different things about the contest interesting.  Djbrow lists specifically what to put in a post.  I would think a contestant would clearly list these things, even using his example as a template for future posts.  This is obviously not the case.  I know not everyone is like me.  I find it interesting to see how players make their posts, such as at least one using an apostrophe to indicate 1/2 rather than write out 1/2, such as 7’ = 7.5.  I also find other things interesting like the different strategies players use, seeing how the vig really does affect bankrolls, etc.

As I believe it is only one player doing this, contestants obviously view such wagers as not permissible and I would like clarification as to whether this is permissible.  I believe bets like these are easier to win (why they have much lower limits at sportsbooks) and if they’re permissible to make would like to include them, as I’m sure every other contestant would also like to do as well.

I think as a contest participant, everyone should know the rules, and if there is any ambiguity, then if is not only fine to ask for clarification, but smart to do so.  I personally would like to know prior to taking an action, rather than take an action and then find out I’m DQ’d.

You politely suggest it is not my place to raise any issues.  I’m not someone who is trying to replace djbrow as overseer of this contest and don’t think people should not ask about or point out something they have a question about as you seem to suggest.  Clearly I’m not the only one who would like to know (see Scottyy411’s post above).  I feel as though it is well within my right to ask about this, or anything else I have a question about.

While you’ve done well, I think you are not making bets/plays that carry the same risk as the rest of us.  There is a reason why there are high limits on NFL sides and totals, and not prop bets.

The first post djbrow makes each week specifically states to use oddshark, not whatever bets can be found on DraftKings website or app.  When I use oddshark, I don’t see these wagers presented.  Other players are also not making such wagers in their weekly plays.  Djbrow also specifically states NFL sides, totals and moneylines, including the first half of the game.

I believe there is only one contestant doing this and as a result it may not have been noticed by djbrow as I’m sure he has other responsibilities.  He may not be reading and “policing” what contestants do as he has stated at the end, he will check the apparent winners posts to see if what they’ve been doing is acceptable, if not they would be DQ’d and he would then check the next apparent winner, if they are DQ’d then the next.  This is obviously the most time saving way as it’s not worth the time to address if the user is not even in the running.

Again, I have no issue with you personally and am just seeking clarification.  Clarification others would also like.  Whether djbrow decides you haven’t followed the rules and should be DQ’d, if he simply doesn’t count those wagers and your new bankroll is only with sides, total and moneyline wagers you’ve made, or something else, it makes no difference to me.  I also would not DQ yourself (you indicate you would stop posting, not sure if this is what you meant by that) and would let djbrow decide what he will do, as he may simply cancel those specific wagers that aren’t allowed (I’m not trying to get you DQ’d, just seeking clarification).  I like competition, but also appreciate everyone operating under the same rules.  I’m not going to be upset with whatever djbrow decides.  

You are doing well with the wagers you are selecting.  I hope if you are using a real bankroll it continues to grow for you and wish you the best.  

If I ask any questions and point something out in the future, it is not personal to any specific contestant….. even if I believe the people offended should be those aggrieved (in this situation the contestants following the rules), not the contestants perpetrating what is perceived as questionable behavior, whether or not it is intentional. I understand not everyone sees things the same way as I do.
