I got another bone to bite. 

Over the past 10 years, NFL teams playing the first regular-season game in a brand-new stadium are 4-0 straight up and 4-0 against the spread.

2016 Vikings vs Packers — Vikings were about +1 to +1.5 and won 17-14.

2017 Falcons vs Packers — Falcons were about -3 and won 34-23.

2020 Rams vs Cowboys — Rams were about -1 and won 20-17.

2020 Raiders vs Saints — Raiders were about +4 to +6 and won 34-24.

Overall trend: 4-0 SU and 4-0 ATS in brand-new stadium openers over the past 10 years.

 

Minnesota was a small home underdog and won outright. Atlanta closed around -3 and won by 11. The Rams were -1 and won by 3. Las Vegas was a home underdog and won by 10.

So for brand-new NFL stadiums over the last 10 years, the home team is:

4-0 straight up
4-0 ATS

That’s a pretty interesting trend heading into Buffalo’s new-stadium opener tonight.
