Richard Sherman, 49ers promise to draw inspiration from Kobe Bryant in Super Bowl vs. Chiefs

"I was really sad yesterday and sad this morning. I was really down," Sherman said. "I was in the dumps, and then I thought about what he would tell me. He would tell me to stop being a baby and to man up and play and do it in his honor and win this game for him. And that is what we are trying to do. We're gonna go out there and try to play some dominating ball, just like he wanted. The Mamba Mentality still lives on."

Every professional athlete out there is promising the same thing... Niners, Chiefs and all those other teams who will be watching from home come Sunday....soccer stars, NBA bretheren, MLB etc.... all the same, no "edge" here with this angle.

You will not survive here. You are not a wolf, and this is the land of wolves now...

Andy Reid says he had a Cuban sandwich in his hotel when he got to Miami last night. Today: rice, beans and pork.

“I’m all in. I’m ready,” Reid says of the South Florida Cuban food.

No, but teasing the lakers down to -4 or -5 on Friday when they play the blazers at home and honor Kobe with the Niners at +8.5 might give you a big edge.

What do you think the Lakers moneyline will be BB? I see no scenario where they will lose straight up, Friday night is a must win as they come.

BTW, that is why the Clippers game was going to be a big time cash cow. No way the books could have opened the Lakers at more than -200 favotites. No way. It probably would have opened at -175 or -180 and from there ballooned up to -400 or higher. I think them canceling that game had as much to do with the gaming/gambling industry as giving the Lakers time to grieve. The books were going to get murdered if they played that game and the NBA has been sucking up to the gambling industry for a few years now, so I'm sure both parties are in bed already.  In fact, that was the only game yesterday where the books did not release an early line. I was waiting all morning, but they never released it. They obviously knew about the cancellation before the media did!

This Blazers game will not be as lucrative for bettors. Betting a thousand bucks or more to win a hunderd is not that appetizing. Nor is teasing a -11 or -12 down to -6 or -7. The Blazers always play their starters till the very end because they have zero bench. All of a sudden, a 20 point lead dwindles down to single digits in the final minutes when Lillard, who has been shooting bricks all night, catches fire and hits 3 or 4 threes in a row. Sound familiar?

Right on buddy. If the game didn’t get postponed tonight, I would of been all in on Lakers spread and moneyline. At minimum 5 units each. The classic Scal “honoring the dead” angle. Friday is tricky, not sure what to do now - if anything.

I don't play totals. But because I still think this game will be played more like an exhibition or match (with guys "honoring" Kobe by jacking it up), I would look to the total. Also, you might want to see how teams play offensively after 5-6 days off. Do the rest and fresh legs add to the total, or does the rust bring it down?

    So these numbers are reg season only;

Home favs on 5 or more days rest are 137-140-4 ATS
    Over/under is 153-118-10 to the OVER (56.5%)

    Home dogs are 48-63-1 ATS
Over/under is 59-51-2 to the OVER.

But because SDQL goes back to 1996 and the game has changed so much since then, I usually look at numbers since 2014 onwards.

Home teams (dog or fav) are 35-41-2 ATS on 5 or more days.
OVER is 44-32-2 in this scenario. Let’s assume the Blazers and Lakers game will have a total of at least 210. If the total is 210 or higher, the OVER is 28-19-1 since 2014. Average score being 113.5-111.6

-1000 is free money. it should really be -10,000. So in that since it is a good deal:) might as well call the books bluff and take it?

I have not decided. But very tempted.

BB - I’m stunned the Lakers lost su yesterday. What a pathetic showing. You honor your legend and can’t even cap it off with a win against the sorry Blazers when your fan base is hurting and needs something to cheer for more than anything. Just careless plays. So many turnovers - passes that just sailed out of bounce. I will never risk so much to win so little again (had the ml). Very costly lesson. Go Niners.

Lebron was a dud last night and sole reason the Lakers lost. AD came to play as did Dame.

The Lakers simply  laid down. Theyll still win finals.  Notice the Blazers scored 127...there's your 27 again

Steve Atwater induction into HOF. He was number 27. Another 27 on SB eve.

Notice all the Denver connections  with the niners. Lynch, Shanahan,  = SF wins

I have had zero luck in the NBA. It was a disgusting display by the Lakers. Lesser Laker teams, teams with losing records, have won and covered when honoring the dead; Jerry Buss, Chick Hearn, etc. Of course, Kobe was involved in those games, and unlike LBJ he is a killer. It’s unfathomable to me that they lost to a one-man-team in the Blazers. In the process they made Whiteside look like the second coming of Scott Wedman, who went 11-11 in the Finals against LA in 1985. Whiteside was 13-14. Simply incredible. Lakers had 60 rebounds to the Blazers 40. They had 18 offensive rebounds but could not do anything right as they turned the ball over 18 times. I really do blame LBJ. He simply choked as he usually does in the spotlight. The bench players, seeing him choke, choked as well. Only Davis showed up. The coach also blew it with his stupid rotations. Said he wanted to give everyone an opportunity to contribute. Well, you should only do that when leading, not with the game in balance. Contrast that with last night when lbj played 10 first quarter minutes and Davis 12! They got the lead and never looked back.

Anyway, I lost a ton as well and if the Niners lose today you may not hear from for a long, long time. But, I’ll leave you with this. Every f u k I n time I backed an NBA team this year and that team lost (think NO) they went on a nice streak soon after. The Lakers will not lose another game until the all-star break. I guarantee it. They are playing Western foes and will win all those games by dd. Most teams let down near the all star break but the Lakers, because of Bryant’s death, will pick it up. Basketball will be their salvation for the next couple of weeks. And they will head into the all star-break on winning note, demolishing their opponents along the way. Next opponent, Spurs on a back to back in a tnt game. Then the Rockets on Thursday in another tnt again. And on and on until they finish in Denver in big revenge spot.
