the ONLY answer to both questions is.......The NUMBER

Could not have said it any better.   It's frustrating because we know what the right call should be but the refs fucked it up.

But what happened at the end of the game solidified it for me the game was rigged.  There was no conclusive evidence to overturn that call, the outcome of the game remains the same.  And the only outcome it served was to decide who covers the spread.

None of us are gonna be able to prove it was a fix but i think it was.  I dont get how people still dont understand that games get fixed on occasion.  We have solid proof that nba games were rigged for years and the commissioner allowed it to continue to happen for years for "proper investigation".  Also all the other refs involved like the ones donahue would call before and after the games have not been accounted for.  The commissioners are in on it too.

And ya we dont have an nfl ref being tried by the fbi right now. but that doesnt mean everything is clean.  People seem to think donahue is the only ref to ever rig anything.  Hes jsut the only one to get caught.  There are plenty more of the same.  Also fixes happen so rarely that its hard to ever really know if it was a fix or jsut terrible ref who are terrible when jsut trying to do their job normally.  So think what you want but for me i know when millions of dollars get thrown around shady things happen from time to time.

Brilliant post, papsmear.  Probably the most lucid commentary on this disaster that I've seen on Covers.

I guess as some stated that they have to review any play involving a score, and thats why this one was. It is one of the strangest endings I've lost money on in a long time. I dont like the glaring difference in penalties given to each team. But once again I've seen that on more than one occasion. So I dont buy into the "fixed" thing too much, actually not at all...I'am gonna set my sights on MNF and move on...

You're all dopey. The play was reviewed because it occured within 2 minutes of the 4th Q. Regardless whether it had an impact on the games results or not, it has to be reviewed. The point adjustment has an impact on the season though, it is a tie breaker for playoff purposes. The refs admitted their mistake after the game was over and stated the place should've stood. Its not casue its rigged, purely coincidence...

Was anyone at any of the Vegas sportsbooks during the conclusion of this game?  Curious if bedlam ensued.

F the NFL, if i bet on any NFL game ever again it will be decided by a coin flip.  NFL has always been suspect, but this has convinced me....unreal

Most amazing thing for me about this game is there has never been a an 11-10 score in NFL history, that's 12,837 games folks.

here is one problem i have with this discussion...

there are people who feel like they got screwed over because Pitt didn't cover the spread on that play...

ummm... did you happen to notice that Pitt was not covering for even 1 second of this game?  you made a bad bet... period... get over it... you never deserved to win that game, regardless of the rule...

Look at the First Downs (24-16) and Total Yards (410-213) all in favor of Pittsburgh.  San Diego also had two turnovers.  Pittsburgh dominated this game and should have covered.

Viva... what does that have to do with anything?  they were never covering at any point in this game... you can't claim to have gotten a bad beat in a game you were never covering...

but MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY... i just watched the controversial play over and over for the first time (didn't get a chance to see it live)...

WHAT ARE YOU GUYS BITCHING ABOUT?  they got the call exactly 100% right!  it WAS a forward lateral...

understand this: it does not matter where LT was when he pitched the ball... it ONLY matters where the ball was... LT was carrying it in his left hand, and the ball was dead on the 25 yard line when it left his hand... and it was on the 26 yard line when Chambers caught it... forget where the players are... that is what is fucking you guys up... it ONLY matters where the ball is...

IT WAS A FORWARD LATERAL!

discussion over... and don't argue this unless you are going to watch it over and over like i did... LT was on the 26 yard line, but he pitched it with his left hand (trailing the rest of his body)... it left from the 25... ended at the 26... forward lateral... good call refs!  bad call all you people who lost the bet... sorry, but that's reality...

Do not forget SD's only TD was following a bogus interference call, otherwise they likely only put up 3 points today.

Ref admits to mistake.  When asked if the touchdown should have counted.  The ref said the play should have been allowed to go through.

13-1 penalties, 115-5 penalty yards and 12-14 points taken off the board in the last 20 seconds.
