Why fool with an uncertain O/U bet when you've got a chance to make money on such a strong side play? I don't even want my under 55 bet right now, to tell you the truth, not when I'm going to have my biggest bet of all-time on the Patriots minus the points.

im pretty sure bator made that wager assuming a HEALTHY chargers team would be taking the field....mind you a HEALTHY chargers team might have been a different outcome....considering all the failed red zone trips they encountered....no thomlinson was massive loss for them....
san diego would make fools of the giants i believe. the secondary is too strong in san diego for eli manning to function....just my opinion though. GL![]()

TOTALLY different scenario here. In the AFC title game, the Patriots weren't fired up enough to face a badly banged-up Chargers team that they knew they were going to take advantage of. But the bigger obstacle in that game was the same one that increasingly dogged the Patriots throughout the second half of the season. That is, they had to try to extend their perfect record while knowing that another victory only mounted the pressure on them to win again the following week. Obviously that became a large load to bear, but still they were good enough to avoid getting tripped up, although they weren't superhuman enough to keep up with the oddsmakers' weekly demands. Here, though, there is no next week. There is no next game. There is no more pressure awaiting them after this one. They know they only have to reach back for one more great effort and they'll be immortalized. And this two weeks is just what they needed to get properly rested and fired up to do what Tom Brady said they were going to do (after the San Diego game):
"We're going to elevate our game for one last performance."
That's a scary thought for the Giants and their misguided backers. In other words, the best team to ever play in the NFL is going to go into the Super Bowl not just rested, but fired up, focused, angry (again), and wanting to dominate this game more than any team has ever wanted to dominate a football game . Imagine that, the Patriots at their best (think weeks 1-11).

Me? I'd rather lay something like -13 +110 since the spread isn't going to factor in anyways. But if you want the lowest line possible, then -11 -115 is good enough.

Bator,
One question for you. By the way, I completely agree with your analysis but have this problem that bugs me when I go to sleep.
Historically, Patriots' 3 superbowl wins have not been by wide margins. Patriots 32 Panthers 29 Patriots 24 Eagles 21 Patriots 20 Rams 17. I understand that this is a completely different team and one that the NFL has never seen before. But the fact that they have the same coach in all 3 of those super bowl wins, doesn't that show you that Belichick likes to sit on leads and is content with it? He seems to coach the big game the same way all three times, conservative and more conservative. His game plan seems to be content with lets say a 10 pt lead.
Does the historical game plan of their coach in super bowls worry you with a 12 pt spread? Especially since Patriots defense is not that great?
Thanks, and see you in the nba forum.

Good question. I'd say this opportunity would still be worthy of a huge bet, and for me, I think that would be 50, although if I keep watching ESPN's First and 10 in the morning........maybe 60.
