Post your worst bad beat (an experiment).

There is a HUGE difference between losing and a bad beat and only a couple posted here were bad beats. Words and terms you need to remove from your vocabulary if you want to be successful:

Bad Beat

Close (subtract the C and you have lose)

Almost (subtract the a and the m and you have lost)

I think (Anybody can have a thought on a game but handicapping is about quantifying. Everyone has an opinion and you know what they say about opinions).

Please enlighten us

If you had the Falcons in the 2016 super bowl you had a bad beat. Atlanta entered the 4th quarter leading by 19 points. Teams leading by 11 points or more heading into the 4th quarter of the super bowl are 27-1 SU all time.

nfl game about 8 years ago.  total something like 49 and i had the over.  47 scored at halftime.  scoreless 2nd half

couple laterals where the lateral team scores and beats me

Not sure if this qualifies but 2020 Ravens/Browns.

Had Browns +3.5. Ravens lead 45-42 with 4 seconds left. Last play of the game Browns take a safety on a ridiculous play and Ravens win by 5. I have to admit I was already counting my winnings. Cost me a few grand and I’ll never forget it. I got a whole list of these if I could remember them all. 

Im sure this one doesn’t qualify. Rams/packers. Rams up 2 with one minute to play. I believe they were a 7 point favorite. O/u 57. Todd Gurley avoids scoring a TD on a wide open run with 50 something seconds left. Final 29-27 Rams. If he scores it’s Rams/over. Instead Packers/under. Yep that one cost me a few bucks too.

Only recent one i can remember this year in college football. I had Baylor +3 against Colorado. Baylor leading 24-10 late in second quarter. Colorado eventually ties, Baylor takes lead late 31-24, Colorado ties with hail mary as time expires then scores first in OT, then Baylor guy fumbles over the goal line while going in for the tying TD in overtime. 

This ranks up there for me as well. I thought it was a 99% win when the Seahawks had it 1st and goal. It's probably the worst beat for me if judging by the swing in my bet. I had a $6k straight plus a lot of parlays around the Seahawks. I don't think think I've felt so sick in any moment more than that one 

THAT is a bad beat.

This is before the advent of in-play.

I normally do 3 or 4 team round robins now, but I did a few $20 8-teamers way back. I had the first 6 in and the 7th and 8th games had just started when the 6th game finished that I won by a last second field goal. The 7th game was close but always had the lead and it ended up winning. The 8th game was a LOCK at half time…I mean the LOCK OF ALL LOCKS. It was Louisiana Monroe against Florida Intentional or Florida Atl…one of those. The over was 66 1/2. There was 61 points at half time. The two teams only managed a field goal TOTAL in the 2nd half. Ended up at 64.

so many in like my 60 yeras of gambling but i got quite a few

oooooooyes wait this year Eagles home -9.5 vs Brown s not 1 no 2 b ut 3 missed 2 pt attempts and a missed fog they blew my money out the window

So please let all of us know what qualifies as a bad beat. Is it the amount of money wagered?

Is it the amount of teams wagered?

Is it a .05 point beat?

To the few posters that have been doing this longer than you have been alive a bad beat would be and I am using examples.

A bet on a game under 39 and it is 21-20 at the half. Just a really bad beat on the numbers and or system being used.

A head coach using analitics causing very poor play calling.

Or the biggest mistake of all. poor money management.

What say you?

Sure, the thread pointed to discussion of bad beats, but no one really talks abouts the games they didn't deserve to win.... not very often, anyway.

And this just  doesn't happen by accident.   A fair amount of research has been done to show that people feel the pain of a loss more acutely than the euphoria of a win.   The subject of  "" behavioral finance"" goes into this to a degree..

I think I have the winner but it’s a friends bet not mine. He showed me the screen shot. Jacksonville State vs LA Tech this year he has LA Tech +4.5 on an in game bet. LA tech is up 37-31 with the ball inside of 2 mins and doesn’t cover. It’s the worst I’ve ever seen and it’s not even close. Look up the YouTube video. Probably 1,000,000-1 type of result. 

I say that bad beats happen once every few years, not weekly like so many here seem to think. 

The year 2014.  The place Lambeau field. Thee opponent . Seattle in the NFC Championship game.

I am holding two $700 tickets [which I had purchased at the end of the 2013 season at Ceasers Palace]  one in each hand. In the left hand is a packer future to win the NFC at 8-1 odds. In my right hand, thee other future to win the Super Bowl at 12-1 odds. 

The Packers are leading 16-0 at halftime and leading 19-7 with less then 3 minutes left in regulation. After Seattle scored late  they got the ball back ona botched on side kick that literally bounced right in and out of a Packer player who really had no business being in there as he was an ill used offensive linemen. Seattle recovered the ball and went on to win in overtime.

If that wasnt bad enough the real "bad beat" was the fact that my beautiful generous wife had offered to pay for the Las vegas trip so I could at least cash the NFC ticket and thereby watch the Super Bowl out there. I will always remember standing in front of that TV set with my clammy hands holding these two winning tickets that turned to losers against insurmountable odds.

He has AJ diamonds

I have two black Kings and 3 bet preflop from button -- He calls

Flop  KQ diamonds,  6  clubs

I check -  He Gets Half his remaining stack in on the flop, I call and trap.....

Turn Q clubs

I check -  He gets all the money in on the turn, I call with the nuts

River T diamonds

He hits the Royal Flush for a 1 outer and the only card that can beat me

I am left with a short stack and go out a short time later taking home about 35K,    but had a chance to win 300K

Had a few more 1 outters,  but that one stung as If I win that hand I probably would have won the tourney

MLB I've had unders where the game is 1-0 in bottom of the 9th, home team ties it up, goes extra innings, game goes over in the 12th inning. 

Was going to hit 38k PL. Last leg Siants ML over Vikings and MN miracle happened.  Couldn't hedge as NO took late lead and also had over.
