Peyton Manning is very good....but he's OVER RATED and here's why....

You have to give credit where credit is due.  But you also have to give faults when a fault is clear.

Peyton Manning is a very good QB.  He's a first ballot Hall of Famer.  Before the Super Bowl, everyday, someone, somewhere, annointed Peyton Manning as the greatest Quarterback of All-Time.  And THAT is now clearer than it has ever been - he is NOT even close to the best of all-time.

Joe Montana.  Tom Brady.  Terry Bradshaw.  Troy Aikman.  Ben Roethlisberger.  Bart Starr.  John Elway.  Bob Griese.  Roger Staubach.  Jim Plunkett.  These are the Quarterbacks who have won 2 Super Bowls or more in their career.  A quarterback's job is to win the game and to get it done when it counts.  Nothing counts more than the Playoffs.

Peyton will put up gawdy yardage.  He'll throw a lot of touchdowns.  He'll probably make 2 or 3 comebacks every regular season.  But when it comes to the playoffs, the man just can't do it.

18 Career Playoff Games.  9-9 Record.  Take away his lucky year and he's 5-9 and in the playoffs.

1999 - Peyton's first playoff season.  Second seed & a bye through the first round.  Plenty of time to rest.  Peyton goes 19 for 42 for 227 yards.  The man couldn't lead them downfield all day until the end of the 4th quarter when he rushed in a meaningless touchdown.  0-1

2000 - Peyton tries again.  He gets the Colts a wild card.  Peyton has an unspectacular 17 of 32 for 194 yards & a TD.  Colts lose 23-17 to the Dolphins. 0-2

2002 - Peyton gets his Colts another wild card.  This time they travel to New York where Peyton goes 14 of 31 for 137 yards & 2 interceptions.  Colts lose 41-0. 0-3

2003 - Peyton finally gets a win.  He wins the division & they get the 3rd seed.  He beats up on the Brian Griese led Broncos.  Then he beat a Kansas City team that had no business in the playoffs.  Then, when he had finally reached a new round he had never played in before, the Conference Championships, he came back to his normal abilities.  He threw FOUR interceptions.  Just when it mattered most yet again.  2-4

2004 - Another #3 seed and division crown.  Once again getting a poorly constructed Brocnos team in the first round and beating them.  But then he had to play New England again and they embarassed him the season prior.  It was another dissapointing loss, this one 20-3.  It was the second time he had failed to even go down the field for a touchdown in a playoff game.  3-5

2005 - No more excuses, he finally gets the Colts homefield so they have an easy way to the Super Bowl.  First round bye.  Lots of rest.  In comes the #6 seed Pittsburgh Steelers.  It should be easy.  They lost.  3-6

2006 - Peyton's lucky year.  Another 3rd seed.  He gets the Chad Pennington led Jets.   Beats them.  Then the merry-go-round QB led Ravens.  Barely beats them.  Then he wins the AFC Championship in a very good comeback that was more the Patriots' stupidity than the Colts' actual skill.  Then the laugh out loud Rex Grossman led Bears in the Super Bowl.  The NFL can rejoice, Peyton lucks out & has won a Super Bowl.  Trent Dilfer won one.  So did Brad Johnson....and Doug Williams.  7-6

2007 - A number 2 seed.  Another extra week to rest.  San Diego came rolling in to the town.  Indy down 4 with 5 mintues left.  Peyton drives the field, all the way to the 9 yard line for a first & goal.  Finally Peyton is going to prove his worth.  And they gain 2 yards & turn it over on downs.  He gets it again but goes 4 & out.  Another loss.  7-7

2008 - Another strong season.  A fifth seed & first round matchup with San Diego.  He once again has a chance to redeem himself.  But he loses again, and is eliminated.  7-8

2009 - And now this season.  Another fantastic finish, homefield advantage.  First they get the over hyped, even more over rated Ravens.  Easy win.  Then they get the rookie led & over rated Jets.  Another easy win.  Finally Peyton has another game to prove himself and what does he do?  Throws the game ending interception when it mattered the most.  9-9

Bottom Line - Peyton Manning is a good QB but he is by no means near the standard of best of all-time like many called him earlier this week.  And because he was apparently "Best Ever" and he's now obviously not....THAT makes him OVER RATED

Manning is a GREAT REG season QB, but a VERY VERY AVERAGE POST SEASON QB--

In fact he DISSAPOINTS every year-- that means he is OVER RATED-

Also I thought I would add in the fact that he GOT killed in every HIGH SCHOOL playoff game he had and in COLLEGE he lost every single BOWL game and big game vs FLORIDA--

Manning comes back in the 4th qtrs, but in REG SEASON games usually, in a ONE GAME SCENARIO I can say that MANNING would be one of the LAST guys i would take as MY QB--

I would rather have ROMO, Brees, Rothyberger, Favre, Warner, Ryan. Schaub, Gerrard, Young, Collins,------


This guy is not the guy you want in a big game, he is far too mechanical---

on game winning touchdowns, the QBS are running for their lives and have to make tough throws, Manning cannotmake those throws, he only can make throws that he practices during the season-
he has no ability to adapt.

Huh?  Just wondering if you factored defenses or the other 52 players on the teams into any of this?  Yeah those guys have 2.. most of them also got 2 in large part to their dominant defenses. Peyton does it year in year out with a mediocre defense (has been better lately) and one of the worst rushing attacks in the NFL. When you can't run and you defense stinks that could maybe have a factor on your quarterbacks jewelry box.

How is he overrated? Basing QB's on their rings is OVERRATED! In that case Trent Dilfer is better than Dan Marino, Phillip Rivers, and is o the same level as Peyton. In the NBA, Robert Horry is much better than Kobe Bryant because he has 7 rings to Kobe's 4. Robert Horry is also better than Michael Jordan, LBJ, Tim Duncan, and other greats because he has more rings.  In Hockey terms, Alex Ovechkin is over rated because he doesn't have a stanley cup, Roberto Luongo is way over rated because again he has 0 stanley cups.

Catch my drift? You can not base a player's greatness on his rings, especially when 22 players take the field and he can only control what they do on offense. People forget how he brought them back in the season with all those comebacks, or against the Jets and Ravens in the playoffs but because he threw a pick in the SB which wasn't even his fault, that man should be known as over rated. The media has influenced peoples mind with your the best because you won the most rings crap, when if you do not have a defense, it doesnt matter how great you are, you just arn't going to win, or if you don't have an o-line and have no time time to throw the ball.

Championships do not make you better than someonelse. Kobe Bryant isn't better than Lebron or Dwanye Wade or Carmelo Anthony because he had argubly the most dominate low post player in the history of the game in Shaq in his prime and together they got 3 rings, not he has Paul Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom, and Ron Artest. Kobe has always played on the best team unlike Lebron and Wade who are doing everything virtually by themselves.

This is where people under rate Peyton so much and have so little respect for him. When they won the SB he had the luxury for him to have a Defense and a Rushing attack that actually played well. Every superbowl team this decade has had the luxury of that.
Fact is that Peyton always has a bad defense and a bad rushing game and has always had to put the game on his shoulders. If Peyton and the Colts actually had a run game and a decent secondary with Bob Sanders, they would win the game the SB every year. Big changes are going to come this off season to get Peyton some help because it's just not fair for hiim to carry a team on his shoulders every single game. What QB besides Peyton has carried a team to decade long success with a crappy run game and defense?


This is not like the NBA, NHL or MLB where it is a 7 game series, it's one game and the stars were aligned for the Saints to win. In a 7 or 5 game serious the Colts take care of the saints 4 to 1. Guaranteed!
