I usually don’t post plays/leans early unless I really really like them. The last time I liked a game this much was when the Ravens beat the Steelers in Pitt.I made the first 50 unit play of my career as I’ve slowly been increasing my units over the year. This week I am making my first 100 unit play of my career.I’ve made over 300 units in the regular season, so please know that I’m not breaking the bank on this play, and please only hit this play if you like my write-up and hit it at an appropriate amount. Other plays will be posted later in the week.
Falcons +3 (Even) to win 100 units
Public Perception:
Let’s look at this game. What do people think about when they think of the New York Giants, they think of a team that won huge games against the Jets and Cowboys in consecutive weeks to finish the year. They also think of a team that won the Super Bowl as a 6-seed in 2007.What do people think about when they think about the Atlanta Falcons, they think about a dome-team that struggles in the cold and on the road. They think of a team, that got humiliated by Drew Brees 45-16 on Monday Night Football 2 weeks ago and a team that got demolished by Aaron Rodgers in last year’s playoffs. However, when you look at the teams more in depth you see different things.

The Giants are great in underdog roles and are very solid in games where they have to prove themselves and there’s a lot of press involved. “Everyone says the Giants fight hardest when their backs are against the wall. They can't get any more backed up than they are now."- Rolle on the Giants. The G-Men beat the Pats and Eagles as huge road underdogs, the Jets and Cowboys twice in short lines, and almost beat the Packers. However, in games where there was not a ton of press or hype for the Giants to prove themselves they lost to the Niners on the road, and threw some complete stinkers at home losing to the Redskins, Seahawks, Vick-less Eagles and barely beat the Dolphins and Cards (on the road). After the Giants rolled the Cowboys they are expected to breeze through their matchup next week against the Falcons so they won’t have the same mentality as they have in the last two weeks. It’s very difficult to play consecutive emotional games. Now considering that the Giants have played not one but 2 huge games the last 2 weeks to win the NFC East I think they are going to have an awfully tough time matching the same energy level for the Falcons.I’m not saying the Giants are going to have a let-down, but consider that last year in the playoffs the Jets beat the Patriots in a huge statement and revenge game but then got down 24-0 to a Steelers team the next week that was not as good.
Falcons Mentality:
When you look at the Falcons results this season, one will notice that they are a very consistent team. They absolutely dominated bad teams and won the games they were expected to win by beating the Jaguars, Buccaneers (Week 17 Quitting Version), the Colts, Vikings, Panthers twice, Seahawks, and Titans. Those results show that the Falcons are a well-coached and disciplined team that takes care of business. Many people are saying that the Falcons are bad outdoors since they are a dome team. While I agree with this prognosis, I won’t dwell on it since they won in very, very tough environments in Seattle and Detroit. The Falcons are also 5-0 ATS and 4-1 SU when playing in New York, so the team feels comfortable in that environment and honestly if the weather turns shitty the Falcons style of play suits the cold more than that of the Giants. The Falconsare a very solid football team. They lost to the Packers (great team), healthy Bears on the road (very good team), Buccaneers in Week 3 when the team cared and was playing well in their 4-2 stretch to start the year, the very good Texans in Houston, and the Saints twice (great team). From this schedule you can see that the Falcons are a team that is not quite at the level of the Saints, 49ers, and Packers, but still are a very solid team.
Before the Week 17 games started, the Falcons were 6th place and expected to play the Saints in the Louisiana Superdome. The Falcons know they cannot beat the Saints in New Orleans, and they probably figured that their season was over without saying so.Now all of a sudden Matt Flynn led the Packers to victory over the Lions. With the Falcons knowing that they could get the 5th seed and avoid playing the Saints, they went out and absolutely shit on the Buccaneers racing out to a 42-0 lead. The Falcons were motivated by two blowout losses—48-21 to Green Bay in last year’s playoffs and 45-16 at New Orleans last week.“Getting embarrassed like that last year, that’s not who we were,” Turner said. “We just wanted another chance.” “Honestly, I’ve said it all year: I think we’re a better team than we were last year,” Gonzalez said.Remember last year that the Falcons were the number 1 seed in the NFC heading into the playoffs and had a great season before getting blown out by a red hot Packers team that was absolutely amazing in every facet of the game.Matt Ryan has lost both his starts in the playoffs where he was favoured to beat the Cardinals in 2008 and Packers in 2010.This year the Falcons are flying under the radar after playing well to end the year.Matt Ryan has lost both times playoffs and I think with Matt Ryan playing well leading the Falcons in an underdog role they will want to do much better and will do better.

The Giants are ranked 23rd in stopping the run.The Giants have a big weakness in this category and their run D only looked good the last 2 weeks because they played an inept Felix Jones, and Shonn Greene who plays with Mark Blowchez so the Giants could focus on the run.Unfortunately, for the Giants, Falcons running back, Michael Turner, is no Felix Jones. He is a premier rusher and is very physical. With the Giants off of two emotional wins, I think Turner is going to chew them up.This will lead to a lot of short yardage situations. Those short-yardage situations are going to limit the Giants pass rush, and even in passing down the Falcons have given up the 7th least number of sacks in the NFL with their solid offensive line.Matt Ryan has quietly been playing many solid games. With Julio Jones, Tony Gonzalez, and Roddie White at his disposal the Falcons can expose this horrendous Giants secondary ranked in the bottom 10 in the league against the pass. The Cowboys did well against the Giants when they attacked downfield, unfortunately, they were trailing the whole game so the Giants could tee-off on the Cowboys spotty O-line.The Cowboys also made many puss play calls.Even though the Falcons lost to the Saints at home by going for it on 4th and 1 at their own 30, that move shows me that their Coach Mike Smith plays to win and is not afraid unlike Cowboys Coach Jason Garrett. The Falcons will put up plenty of points here.So what about the defense?
Giants Offense vs. Falcons Defense:
The Giants have a solid offense, especially Viktor Cruz.Viktor Cruz is an aggressive receiver and is very fast. The Falcons however have one of better corners in the league in Brent Grimes. He struggles at times with big wideouts cause he’s small, but he’s very quick and will match Cruz’s speed.Grimes is recovering from a nagging knee injury but he’s a gamer and with Coach Smith keeping him out to rest in Week 17 I have no doubt that he’ll play and be effective in a do-or-die game.By limiting Cruz the Falcons D will do well. The Falcons struggle against the Saints and Packers because their second and third defensive backs are mediocre. However, the Giants other two wide-outs in Nicks and Manningham are completely banged up and not moving the same as they were when healthy.Dunta Robinson (2nd DB) and Franks will slow them down for the Falcons. The Falcons have a great run D ranking in the top 10 in the NFL.The Giants can’t run for shit ranking last in the league in yards per carry. This will lead to a lot of 3rd and longs and I think that veteran pass rushers in John Abraham and Ray Edwards will get to the QB.

The sportsbooks opened the Giants line at -3.Just consider that the Giants were -3 against the Cowboys and completely obliterated that team. Now we get the same line, the public is going to pounce on New York here.If the books leaned the Giants strong they easily could have opened this line at -3.5 to -4 and still would have gotten Giants money. At -3 they are baiting you into taking the Giants as public perception isn’t high on the Falcons.Give me the Falcons here!
This line may go up but I’m more than comfortable hitting it at +3.If I lose I lose, but I feel extremely strong about this game and am riding the Falcons here.
Let's keep the preseason and regular season success rolling into the playoffs!

I REALLY like Atlanta this weekend and I give them a great chance to win ML. I am going to buy the hook and get 3.5. I love getting +3.5 in this spot..

GREAT write up & I'll be tailing you. As always, thanks for sharing! Lost a ton on the Cowboys yesterday & wouldn't mind recouping most of it on the Falcons this weekend. This team is dying to finally win in the playoffs & raise their level of play in the post season. Your write-up on public perception is dead on in regards to this team & I think it'll play into Vegas' pocket perfectly.
I think the Steelers-Broncos game is going to be an interesting game to bet as well. Tebow vs. The Steelers? seems like a no brainer but it's the NFL.
I think I'll bet the Falcons ML & see what happens. Great season mtBaker & keep up the good work! BOL!

1. NYG, when hot, is a top tier team in this league
2. Matt Ryan sucks on the road.
That's all I need. NYG's defense is lighting it up. I see a huge NYG win. Double digits.
Okie dokie the Giants are "RED-HOT" just beat a team that has a bigger box than Rosie O'Donnell. The Giants also beat Blowchez who is one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. Don't forget that the Giants lost to Grossman and got humiliated by a more than mediocre Redskins secondary. Atlanta's secondary is better.
It's too bad that ATL has a quick secondary and can contain the Cruz. It's also too bad that Matt Ryan and Turner will score on this NYG defense at will. The Falcons have a great line so Ryan will get the ball out quickly. Matt Ryan is gettting bashed like none other, and you know what the fact that he won in tough outdoor environments like Carolina and Seattle, as well as a hostile dome in Detroit leads me to believe that he'll have no problem winning in New York, a place where the Falcons have played well in the past.

No problem, glad you enjoyed the write-up. The perception on the Falcons is so low and I love this play compared to the other games this week cause I can really picture how it's going to pan out. I lean Denver but their pass D isn't as good as the Browns (who I took +7 against the Steelers yesterday) and I'm not very confident on how Tebow can score so I'll have to think about that one.
Will look into the other games later and hopefully find something nice.

No need to get defensive. Just voicing an opinion. Matt Ryan out of that dome = failure.
Save your money. BOL

taking out yesterdays game which was an anomaly, turner has averaged around 3.3 ypc in his last five games in all likelihood due to his lingering groin injury.
if you are making this bet with the premise that turner is going to go for 125+ on 5 ypc you may want to reconsider.

Have you guys watched both Atlanta and the Giants play this year? Sure the Giants had a few bad games as favorites but common they consistantly put up big numbers. They are rolling now too. Atlanta just so lackluster this year. Playing so average for so much talent. They have consistently have let me down and played below there talent level. I just dont know if riding big on these guys is a good idea do to there underperforming this year.

I haven't watched a ton of Falcons games this year. Are they smart enough to call mostly quick 3 step drop passes? The Umenyiora/Tuck/Pierre Paul Trio haven't played a bunch together this year cause of injuries, but when they do, like this week at home, it can be a little distracting for QBs. I see Atl OL is 7th best in sack rate. That bodes well for 'em.
Atl's only "quality win" is @ Det. The rest of their wins are against some pretty poor teams. At least NYG won @ NE.

yeah, beating the team with the worst defense in the league is something to hold onto.
3 weeks ago NY lost to the skins at home lol how quickly perception changes.

Great write-up mtBAKER. Good Luck on this big bet. I think it will be a close game. I noticed you have some money on the RAVENS to win the superbowl. How do you feel about that bet going into the post season?
