Out of the Colts I saw interviewed they are the ones who stood out as the most troubled. Saturday seemed downright shaking with anger. "You play to win every game, that's what I came here for." Reggie literally had water in his eyes when he talked about how every year they had to hear about the 72 Dolphins and now they would be hearing champagne popping... You could tell they wanted that 19-0 more than anything the way they were acting. You could tell they knew they would never get another chance at this.
I think listening to the interviews it is very obvious that the team is deeply disturbed by this decision and was not prepared for it. Honestly they looked as surprised about this decision as any of us, only obviously one thousand times more emotional about it.
Pretty depressing to watch. And this is not about the bet, there are a million fucking bets out there, this is about the decision itself as a fan of football. You have to wonder how this will affect team chemistry moving forward....

It is disgusting that the Indy players probably had no input in the decision. And I think it severely hurts the team's morale, as they wanted to do something special and shut up the bitter Miami douches (Shula, Morris, etc.) that keep patting themselves on the back for an undefeated season.

I think they should put the coaches BALLS in a vice & each player s/b able to turn the handle 1 time & manning s/b last & when he is turning his revolution on the handle he should wack in the coaches FACE too.

Ya know guys....fans foot the bill for the tickets that when you buy one this day and age, you must now give up alot....and this is what you get in return?, this is a crime to say the least. And now the Colts will be over rested in 3 weeks, they had the excitment of a undefeated season and a possible superbowl.....I honestly think that 4 years ago when the Colts were undefeated that Dungys sons death took them out of Cinque, and now the death of a possiable undefeated season...will do the same.

Funny how people claim Vegas knew that the Colts would rest starters when all the video of their faces after getting pulled shows that they themselves didn't even know it was coming. I am sure they knew it was possible but deep down didn't believe it would actually happen and certainly not like that. They probably thought they would only be pulled in a blowout, not in a close game where they could watch the backups squander what they had worked so hard to achieve.
I wish I could find more footage of the interviews than the networks show and wish I could have seen more of their reactions on the sideline because to me every bit of it is fascinating. I never watch NFL programs but I have watched them nonstop tonight lookig for new bits and nothing else they put on the shows is of any interest to me in comparison. Tampa beat NO in NO? Who gives a fuck! The Colt management literally threw away a chance at 19-0! What story could possibly compare to that?
To see a team so fucked up each trying to varying degrees and in their own way to let the emotion out without blaming the men who made the decision is a unique sort of drama... Thanks for the replies and keeping the thread alive, I was just really moved by these two interviews, more than any football related interviews I have ever seen. I went from shock at seeing the decision to sadness after I saw how hard they took it, and trust me, I am the last man to get emotional about what some male millionaire is feeling, but this is beyond money and all that matters to me is that their despair is genuine.
I want to cheer them on because of what these players just had to endure, but at the same time if they win the Bowl to some it will validate Caldwell's decision, so I am torn.

Agreed that it is disgusting that they were not counseled when they seemed in such unison on this issue. I am not sure how it will affect morale, but I know there will be a strong effect. After watching the interviews it is hard not to think that effect will ultimately be negative.
Like when a tennis player fails to rbeak another's serve despite being given many chances they often lament the missed chances so much that they get broken themselves right after. I wonder if the players will be so busy regretting what happened today that they will have trouble focusing on the games that lie ahead of them, or if their anger will fuel them.

Buddy get over it vegas clearly knew. And so did a bunch of other people. I pointed out earlier the first half line was larger then the actual full game spread, that is really rare. Just looking at that people should have concluded what was going on. Now im not saying it was guarenteed to happen, but it was more likely then not. Hell painter could have come in and thrown 3 td's.

I agree with u smitty519 I cant believe they would play them 3quaters and pull them out in a tight game at home and the chance to elimnate a tam from the playoffs. I mean come on, it was the last couple of minutes in the 3rd at most in the 4th quarter is 3drives drives usually and Colts would have had the lead meaing Peyton Manning would have been handing th ball off mostly!!!!!!!!!!! I didnt get bet on this game but it dives me crazy to see them lose the streak like this not only a perfect season. I still like Caldwell but maybe he is tryin o prove hisself since it is his 1st year as a Head Coach, I dont know why he would try to do this because everyone knows that this is Dungy's team that he made and Peyton uns the show.

If the Colts can pick up or trade for a DOMINATE CB and a healthy Bob Sanders for the entire year. I think there chances are extremely high to go undefeated next year.

They will never go undefeated because the dick head coaches will pull the same stunt year after year.

Ok so now the stage is set. If Indy does not win the S.B. the media , fans and players will blame it all on this one game for not playing to win. (A great way for the whining players to pawn it off on the coach). Now if they go on to win the SB the cry baby saps doing all the complaining will all kneel down and suck Caldwell off telling him what a great visionary he was. Its called hinesight and pro athelets are great at it.

When a team gets this close to something sssoooo special you owe it to the players, the fans and the league to go for it.
How they can not look back and regret this is beyond me, especially if they win the SB.
Looking back at history it does not bode well for teams resting their starters this early, no team has gone on to win the SB that's rested their starters for the final 2 games or parts of the final 2 games.
The Colts forgot this lesson already as they did the exact same thing in 2004 when they opened the season 14-0, and then lost in the opening round.
Playing through the final game is a better recipe for success.
Case in point was 2007 when the G-men could have rested their starters in the final week but choose to try and beat the then unbeaten Pats, both the Pats and Giants played through the final game and both ended in the SB becuase of it.

Good thread. Players have a right to be downright angry and question their leadership. This mockery of NFL is extremely bad karma and will make us all root against Colts when we should have all been rooting FOR an undefeated season just to shut up 72' Dolphins. Instead, they must have been laughing so hard drinking that champagne because the mgmt said pull the starters. An absolute FARCE. Very SAD day for the integrity of the NFL. Nobody won here with that decision, except the Jets. Go Super Chargers, Pats, Cats, Ravs, and even, the Jets. CRUSH the Colts!!!!!!!!

Its amazing how these are the thoughts of 90% of the football fans out there..... complete disgust..... every great game the colts played this year, every great comeback, is completely meaningless right now........
We watch watch hours and hours of sports because we want to witness greatness, something special, something memorable..... colts fans and football fans have endured watching alot of crap over the years for the chance of watching a great game and a great team....
...... As a player on that team, I would be downright pissed as well.......
.. If a key player gets hurt as the colts go for the win, WE WOULD STILL RESPECT THE COLTS and we would cheer for the colts to win the superbowl even more......... I can't root for this team now..... I hope they get beat by the patriots....
..... In fact, this game is disgusting me so much I am seriously evaluating my priorities and the amount of time I am wasting watching sports.....

I noticed it to man, I thought it was a crappy thing also to throw a raw QB into the mix at home when their only 5 points up late in the 3rd Quarter and everything still to play for, that wasnt fair on the guy.

How weird it sounds...I'm honestly wondering if it was just Indy's coach flexing his muscles. Showing everyone that HE runs his team and no one can tell him what to do. Judging by some of the starters on the sidelines, they had no clue they were coming out.
It's over now, but in my opinion that was a gutless move.
