that was the other possibility i wasn't going to mention. you know payton will get 6 in ot more than most coaches.
not a problem now though.
i almost wish SF would lose because of the vanzack rule. and all of the other stupid shit harbaugh did.
You know, after I stop feeling so good about this - I am going to get angry about the state of NFL coaching - and my neurosis is going to weigh heavily on the vanzack family this week. I can just see them have that "daddy is going crazy again" look in their eyes as I drone on about how NFL coaches who win avoid all scrutiny, and are never asked the right questions.
Harbaugh (who I am usually a fan of), blew this game. His gameplan was for the most part shit, and he tactical plan wasnt much better. His team was unprepared. What won him the game is plain and simply turnovers. Thats it. Its hard to lose with a +4 turnover ratio - especially with 3 in the red zone.
I will offer a covers congratulations to the first person who uncovers a single question about Alex Smith going down instead of scoring in the media after the game. That play is already forgotten, even though the difference between winning and losing in this game was about an inch.

i wouldn't expect that from harbaugh who has been very good this year. the offensive gameplan was shit. it's one thing to abandon the run against a passing team when you're down, but they had the lead. and they are a running team. this game playeds right to their stregth and harbaugh still fucked up the playcalling. very hard to understand.
i will give SF a little more credit though. i thought the defensive gameplan was great. they took away the long and intermediate passes. bress started out ok taking th short passes but he got greedy and thew a long pass when it wasn't there and SF got that nice INT that led to a huge second TD. turnovers were clearly the key but that turnover was a direct result of the SF gameplan giving Brees the short passes and daring him to throw his favorite deep balls and brees took the bait.

Cant argue with the defense comments. Great defensive gameplan - and the gambling caused the turnovers - not luck. Agreed.
My longterm mental illness stems from coaches who have control of the game, and make decisions to squander it. Im not saying the Alex Smith going down thing is the ONLY thing that happened - as this thread was started out of the baffling change of gameplan by the niners to all of a sudden become a west coast offense (ironic).
Like you said - you have the lead - you are a ground and pound team - WTF are you doing in the 2nd half not pounding it?
Anyway - I will take it - you have to have those lucky wins from time to time - but I dont think I would want to bet that game again.
There goes Tebow with a fumble....

yes, harbaugh is a hero for beating the hottest Qb and one of the best teams in the league. but he did his best to give that away for a few reasons. i still probably like them next week if they are big enough dogs in GB, if they play them, but if they do that shit on the road against the green bay offense, it will be a much different story.

BTW - I have Baltimore at about 7-1 to win the SB.
Saints, Packers, and Patriots will lose because of defense.

Just got back from watching that game in a friend's theatre with HD projection, one of my favorite games in the last 10 years as a Niners fan, hands down, just awesome, I can't imagine how it would have felt with money on the Niners, especially after the late NO TD

that's why northern california is better than southern california.
as for this game, brady has all day while tebow is running the option. that may be all we need to know on this die and the total unless belichik slows this down at some point.
