Love you last statement @thehawk. He did draft him and he picked apart the best defence in the league. Niners have to win this as much as the saints. I like the niners in this game and bringing the saints defence (ranked worst in the league) back down to earth.
This is not a knock against Brees, who is my favourite QB next to Peyton.
I picked the niners on the ML.

Its hard to imagine kaep has as solid a game as he did last week.. the saints defense is totally different than the bears... bears play a plain cover 2, while the saints have a lot of exotic blitz schemes.... the crowd will be rocking and the superdome is a tough place to play for a lot of vets much less a rookie making his first road start... but I think harbaugh is one of the best coaches in the nfl and he will not put his rookie in bad situations... as of now I lean niners I just think they are a better all around team
The Saints no longer use exotic blitz schemes. That was their bread & butter under Greg Williams but Spags does nothing the same with his defense. He relies on his front four and situational blitzes to get pressure on the qb, something the saints do not do well. Add to that the Niners offensive line is one of the best in the league and you said it yourself Jim will not be putting Kap in bad situations. The home field advantage is really the only thing the Saints have going for them. Play is on the Niners already, GL this week

first of all, Kaep is not a rookie QB. They drafted him last year. this is 2nd year. Harbaugh is not feeding this guy to the wolves as a matter of fact he is playing with the wolves...those wolves is the 49ers defense the smith brothers will be in the backfield chasing Brees and making hm uncomfortable in the pocket. Once again this game will come down in the trenches...SF d vs NO oline. SF D has the advantage and I pick the SF oline against NO defense that will give big yardage on the ground. SF running attack is something to behold. With Kaep in the backfield it's like watching the wildcat if they over pursue and if the d play cover 2 Kaep will find the holes as he did with the bears with better corners and safeties. This will not even be a close game as the saints will probably playing catch up all day because brees will be on the bench and thinking about how is he is gonna escape the pass rushers. 24-10 49ers. GL with your play.

I don't believe for one second that Harbaugh is going to ride Kaepernick from here on out like many 49ers fans are hoping, he is way smarter than that. He's only playing him as a precaution IMO as Smith is still injured. If he benches Smith and rides Kaepernick in the playoffs then SF has no shot.
The #1 thing needed to win a Super Bowl in this new passing NFL is an elite QB, just look at the past winners. However I still believe a guy like Smith (who is better than most think at this stage of his career and actually has weapons this year) can win a Super Bowl when surrounded by a top notch team and coaching staff which Smith has.
The only QB's to win the Super Bowl in their first year as a starter were Tom Brady, Kurt Warner, and Jeff Hostetler, the latter of which came in an NFL that is nowhere near as passing centric as it is now. It doesn't matter how good the rest of the team is the reality is Kaepernick still needs a lot of experience and he is going to make mistakes. He will not survive in the playoffs as the starter against elite QB's when called on to make plays. agree 100% with everything you said. I would just add this game is another opportunity to get kaeprnick experience and further develop/evaluate him. Kaepernick didn't shred a "great" Bear defense like most are stating. Rather he exposed an overrated Bear defense that relies on turnovers against sub-par teams. They also just ran a base cover 2 and were arrogant that they could win that way without mixing up their packages. Chicago is not as bad as they looked on Monday night, but they are certainly not as good as they have looked over the first part of the season either. The Niners do need smith in the playoffs.

As a Niner fan I'd be a little nervous about the fact Kaepernick could very well go in there Sunday and take apart the worst defense in history. Then you get the fan base all in an uproar and questions and distractions that the team doesn't need. Even if they go back to Smith in the playoffs everyone will have that lingering thought about Kaepernick if he reels off another great game or two. It just creates a situation no football team needs. I just think for as far as the rest of the year goes I'd want 3 picks and a loss on Sunday to eliminate any potential distraction down the line. Agree on the Bears. Most overrated team in the league in every facet.

the only thing alex smith got going for him is his td/int ratio...and that too isnt such a good thing. the kid just doesnt take the chances down field, and thats why not many turnovers. favre's td/int ratio sucks but he's won the big game.
kaep may not be the answer to the 49ers organization but they sure are headed in the right direction with benching smith if they want to win a SB...
for the most part, i like kaepernick and i am going to put all my chips in on the niners to win the super bowl "IF" kaep plays here on out.
liked green bay to win the sb but now that smith is hopefully out of the picture, the niners look unstoppable in all areas!
