If i'm wrong on this ill eat crow. Saints defense is hardly good, in fact they absolutely suck. However the saints at home are a very dangerous squad still, and that place will be rocking for their bitter 49er rivals. I think this is a really bad idea by harbaugh to basically start a qb controversy because kaepaernick has more upside. I get that he has more upside, but if that was the case it should have been decided in week 1 not week 10 on the road against a hungry saints team.

Kaepernick will make a few bad reads and the saints will profit. The crowd will rattle him and in the end i expect a fairly easy saints win. Then harbaugh will have to go into damage control with alex smith.

Not really, i actually do believe colin has alot more upside than alex smith. But this wasn't the time to make this change. Alex has played really well first off, certainly well enough to keep his job. The problem i see with this change is that while kaepernick has more talent, he is still very raw at reading defenses. This will be exposed by good teams eventually and he will have some really really bad games. This one against the saints will be one of them. This niner team is good enough even with alex smith managing games to win a super bowl, i feel putting a kid at the helm with no experience is a bad move for a team that is built to win now.

I like the Saints so much it scares me. I don't care who starts the game and obviously neither does Vegas. They already put out the line. I would rather like Kaepernick to start because I don't think a rookie can go into that place and perform the same way he did against the Bears at home. I just see the Saints going up early in the first half and the 49ers not being able to come back because they will stop running the ball. I think they have a much better chance to win the game with Alex Smith...only if he is fully healthy.

He definitely won't have the same type of game he had vs. the bears. The saints aren't getting shut down at home , i know the niners defense is great but brees and company are not getting shut down at home. Playing in that dome when the crowd is into the game rivals playing in seattle.

Exactly not to mention the fact that the Saints are very mad they lost in the last minute in the playoffs which would have sent them to the NFC Championship last year. Very hard place to play and a great home team. Their defense will have to stop the run, not an easy task. Im sure that will be the 49ers game plan, like always. They didn't play well on the turf on the road in Minny, won't be any easier here. I think the line is exactly where it should be.

I know there is a ton of support for Kap but I feel it's somewhat justified. He's got serious upside; smarter than most may speculate, physically strong, and fast as shit. I like Alex Smith but after looking at this scenario in detail I cannot make a case for him to continue as the starter for this team. It would be different if the team had a dolt for a coach but Harbaugh can properly nurse a guy like Kap towards some real success in the NFL.

OK IDIOTS......Harbaugh is a brilliant coach..........agreed? Next, his decision making is almost always sound. If you were watching the game against Chicago........ Has a rookie ever looked smoother that Kap did starting that game? Colin made me a believer and I like to believe. Coach doesn't make Kap look like a fool by starting him. He makes NO look almost as foolish as Chicago. A fool and his money are easly parted if you're on the Saints this week. Niners bank!

Would you say thet the Saints D is almost as bad as the Jets D? Did you watch the game tonight?

the caper can go through all progressions and find the right read. he has a cannon and good legs. he can run left and throw back across to the right. what he does lack is touch on his passes. he missed walker in the end zone because he couldn't float it in. the kid will only get better.

brees can score when he wants to. saints can give it up pretty easy to. niners d is tough. niners can run all day and have the weapons to throw to. the caper can hit randy 50 yards deep and alex cant. alex can out duel brees at home can the caper do it in the thunderdome?

who day say gonna beat the aints. the dirty caper

It's not really fair to compare dirty sanchez's mistakes to the saints defense. Dirty sanchez and the jets had five turnovers tonight, do u think brees is comparable to sanchez? Do you think the saint weapons are comparable to new yorks? Please don't ask dumb rhetorical questions. If you wanna pound a rookie qb on the road in the second toughest road stadium against a veteran team then go right ahead. For obvious reasons i like the home team here. Kapernick had one game vs. a very nongame bears opponent. Methinks this is going to be a much tougher game for him.

Kaepaernick has the more upside win or lose then Alex Smith, Kaepaernick can take the 49ers to the next level, where Alex needs a total team effort, running game, defense, and special teams to be successful. I'm sure Jim Harbaugh knows what he is doing and starting Kap for the best chance to win. Kap can keep the play alive with his running and scrambling pass ability, where Alex scrambles and then throws it out of bounds.

This reasoning sounds just like the misinformed people on MNF thinking Kaepernick had no chance against the "best defense in NFL" - SF is going to pound the rock, it's what they do.  Colin just SHREDDED the bears defense and wasn't just hitting wide open receivers, he was dropping passes in there where only his receivers could get it.  He is a pure athlete with pure talent.  If you think the best coach in the NFL is "feeding Kaepernick to the wolves" then you are grossly mistaken.  SF is favored on the road for a reason, they are the best team in the NFL.   Wait till you see Kaepernicks rushing abilities.. kid is flat out FAST.  Rushed for 4000+ yards in college

    Couple things to point out:

    • With Harbaugh starting Kap, this keeps Smith on the bench, yes. BUT, it also gives Smith another week to get his head straight. Now, it's up to you if you think Harbaugh is doing that for Smith's health, or wants another look at Kaepernick

    • Kaepernick had 4 passes of 20 or more yards, connecting on 3 for 111 yards. Smith has had only 6 all season.

    • Alex Smith has completed 25 of his last 27 passes

    • Harbaugh inherited Alex Smith. He drafted Kaepernick.

The 49ers ground game will have Brees on the sidelines. Offensive possessions will be limited for the Saints. The Saints will also have all of their backs healthy. I think Under is the better play while all you debate who will win.

Its hard to imagine kaep has as solid a game as he did last week.. the saints defense is totally different than the bears... bears play a plain cover 2, while the saints have a lot of exotic blitz schemes.... the crowd will be rocking and the superdome is a tough place to play for a lot of vets much less a rookie making his first road start... but I think harbaugh is one of the best coaches in the nfl and he will not put his rookie in bad situations... as of now I lean niners I just think they are a better all around team

which is the most important thing.  That's how he's had success with Alex Smith.

To the doubters, you should realize by now that Harbaugh is one of the best coach who will coach Colin up for this Aints game. Saints success is all smoke and mirror for beating all those team with shitty defense...The 49ers will come after BRees with their pass rush and control the ground with their running game. Not to mention, throwing here and there to keep the saints D honest. Comon man, they have one of the worst D in the league...this game smells blowout even in their dome where Brees has been light out. Mark my words!

Not sure I understand the posters who say they like the Saints so much it scares them.  I have already locked this one in on San Fran and really like this play.  The line (in my opinion) should be closer to a TD, even on the road.  Yes, Brees is great and the Saints have been playing well, but the talent disparity will show up big time in this game.
