If it happens in the NBA, and you know damn well there was more than 1 ref involved in that NBA fixing besides the one that went to jail,   it can happen in the NFL too.

the concept i m trying to emphasize is "keeping fan interest". What I am trying to get across revolves around that.
 
Lets backtrack for a second and pose a serious question? How many people do you know that would watch every game of a regular season if they werent betting on it? I dont know of any. Put another way, what percentage of the NFLs viewing audince gambles? I would venture to say it is extremely high.
 
the objective of the league is to keep these people interested in entire games and games between tams that are totally out of the playoff picture in week 10.

I had the over and it worked out for me  but yes your on to something. The sercet is being on the right side. Just look at the amount of flags that were thrown and when something should have been called the zebra seemed to have blinders on and I'm not saying things are fixed but if the zebras our focusing on 1 aspect of the game it's opens the rest of the game. It's like a homeplate umpire if he tightens up the strike zone you get more hits, open the zone more strike outs. If the "powers to be"  instruct their underlings to tighten up calls on 1 aspect of the game at half time it changes how everyone plays are calls the game. I've got to learn which games have this kind of impact and stay away or know how to get on the right side.

I really don't think games are fixed.  However, cap enough games, college, pro, football, basketball, etc, and the thought can't help but cross your mind at least once.  The NBA is the ultimate example of this.  I find it hard to fix football just because of the nature of game.  I mean you would have to have a lot of players in on it or at least the one's who touches the football the most.  Ironically they would be the least likely to do this as they are paid the most money.  I will say this, most teams pro and college, know what the spread is to their respective games.  It's hard to believe that they totally dismiss it and don't make any effort whatsoever to influence it.

ok NB . . it was all about keeping our interest till the very end...the spread outcome came down to the very last play....cleveland was down by 17..no chance to win...but damn did they try on the very last drive their damndest to lose by 10 instead of seventeen

 

kept our interest...we watched the whole game...ad revenue was generated and the league is phat and phlush with that revenue

i agree maybe some games are fixed.

then again i think the guys who make the spread are the best capers alive!.....i respecet those guys who can cap an upset but still put out a line that should look right in the publics eyes and clean house.

fixed or just great caping, either way you look at it the house knows the outcome of a game. well, maybe most games. they cant help it if a ceretain player gets injured and it changes the outcome of the game.

I believe referees have a hand in the outcome of games, I for won won a bundle of money in 1998 when I had the Patriots vs the Bills, line was Pats -2,  4th down & 15, the ball was thrown down field, the reciever caught it clearly out of bounds, I would say about 2 feet out, and the refs gave the Pats a 1st down, (no instant reply then) LMAO! Then with 20 secs left on the clock from the Bills 49 yard line, the Qb throws a pass into the endzone, "pass interference", in my opinion, the defender never touched the receiver, then the Pats scored a TD; the Bills were so furious, they left the field, the Patriots lined up for a 2 pt conversion with no defense on the other side, LMAO! I never scene anything like that, Pats won by 5, the Bills never came back on to the field & I won some serious money. Bottom line to my story, their are hands at work when you get humans and multi millions together.
 
Watch what happens in games & decide for yourself, I wont criticize anyone for their opinion because we do not see eye to eye. Just hope at the end of the day you were on the right side of the team covering, Good Luck!

ATG, just the fact that any player, coach, on any team (or ref) in any game KNOWS the spread, total, etc, of the game they are playing in means anyone of them could have an intentional influence on the outcome of the game in regards to the line. Wether for personal or outside benefit or just to get off on screwing people one way or another. The only way to do away with most of it would be to outlaw any type of legalized sports wagering. The mere fact that gambling exists in the mainstream means that there is always a chance any game you are betting on is fixed, and they are. I have accepted this as part of the deal when I make any wager. I just hope I'm not on the wrong side if it does happen. Stock Market is the same thing. Everyone knows there are crooks everywhere on Wall Street yet people continue to "invest". The entire system is designed to do what it has always done, let the rich get richer and to keep the poor and middle class wondering how the hell they do it and why can't they be "lucky".

for the record why wasn't that play reviewed by the booth to see wether or not it was possible that Driver came down with the ball.  I thought all plays under 2 minutes were under review by the booth, its been that way since the inception of instant replay!  Remember by rule that if it was a tie up it goes to the offense in which case Green Bay should have been given the opportunity to tie.  I do not understand the Packers calling slants to the middle of the field instead of 4 reciever out patterns and attacking cover 2 where it is most vulnerable on the edges.

ATG, I'm with you to a degree. I feel that some games may be fixed in one way or another simply b/c I have seen way too much bizarre shit in my 40 years on this earth. I tend to think more along the line of Officials getting theirs. I do believe that refs have been on the take before and just have not been caught. And you are right about fans being "lemmings". If the casual fan bet on sports for any length of time and realized what goes on and how it affects lines I believe we would see a lot less people at the ballgame but they don't have a freakin clue. But people need something to identify with, something to be proud or ashamed of, they want to be part of something, even if its a complete farce. Instead of spending time with the family, going to church, etc, to get real fulfillment, they turn on the TV or go to the game to get there fix and thats why they keep watching or attending sporting events on a religious basis. It is their God.

The NFL is not fixed but the line makers played psychological trick with your mind when setting the line.

Half time's spread was at pick, the way GB played in the 1st half, who wouldn't want to jump on them.  Even those who had Chicago would want to hedge back their plays on GB even though it was only a TD difference.  What I don't understand is that do these half time lines makers have some sort of program that they entered to come up with the line.
