I stayed up until 2 am for you guys ONCE AGAIN. Why? That is the only time I am free to write these things after work/other responsibilities. All because I want to share what I know with others. Yes, I will be getting up at 6:30am to go to work too. Here is yet another mega-WRITE-UP and it is one of my finest I think. I know you wanted me to cap Knicks Wizards but when you are done reading you won't regret my choice.

The game: CAVS AT HAWKS 7:30 PM

Hey Vegas, how's the weather down there! On your knees that is!

We are not done sticking it to you for your backdoor razor thin win against us in the Pistons/Bucks game. Not by a longshot...

The Knicks over the Nets? That was just the beginning.

Now we are Pavlov and you are the dog. You will be conditioned to give us your money. When I post, start reaching in that drawer right in front of you because all of that is coming our way.

So what do we have to talk about tonight?

    First,

    1. The criticisms on the Pistons Bucks game.

You post to share your thoughts. But you also subject yourself to the capping public. I heard two main criticisms in my Tankapalooza thread.

One went like this: "How can you bet on a team with no motivation who you know is tanking in the Pistons?"

I am here to say this. Those who said that had a GOOD argument. The Pistons win was never in doubt for me the way I capped it. I even established the Pistons MUST lose to stay in the eighth spot and still chose them to win that game. I had one probelm: the spread.

That is where the second criticism came in from posters. It went like this: "How can you lay half a dozen points with a bottom feeder like Detroit." I am here to say this. That was another GOOD criticism!

So just like a sword sharpens a sword, man sharpens man.

I am here to tell you I took both criticisms and have a game tonight that turns both of them in the opposite direction, therefore doing the exact opposite of what I was criticized for, that is the right thing tonight.

    What game is that?

    2. Cavs@Hawks is our game of the night.

So why does this game fit the perfect script for what we are trying to achieve?

Last time we chose the Pistons as our play. They were tanking.

This time we take the Cavs as our play. They ARE NOT tanking.

As a matter of fact, they are one of the most motivated teams in the league right now, one of it's hottest teams, and the best bet in the NBA over the last 10. As I said in a previous thread on them last week, their ATS record is outstanding. I also told you to keep their eye on them (StevenP listened). They have won out since that thread.

They are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 and 11-2 ATS in their last 13. After the Spurs loss tonight to OKC, the Cavs are now the best bet in the NBA over the last 10.

They are also winning SU. They are 5-1 SU in their last 6.

    Those wins were no flukes:

They snapped the Knicks 8 game winning streak in NY (and you just saw how the Knicks manhandled the Nets)

They beat the Pacers at home (struggling but still a 50+ win team)

They beat the third seeded Raptors.

They completely picked apart the Magic in Orlando, a tough place to get a win. Just ask OKC and the Pacers when they were playing much better what they think about playing at Orlando.

This is the Cavs folks, and like the Spurs on the opposite end of the NBA spectrum, they are paying out like an ATM machine. This is what I mean when I say turn Shi+ to Gold. The gold is there in the shi+ (it's been there with the lousy Knicks many times this year in my posts) and it's here now with the Cavs, ya just have to know where and when to look.

So if I ended the thread RIGHT HERE, and I could, you could honestly just tail the Cavs tomorrow based on how well they are paying out.

But I won't end it there of course. We have A LOT more ground to cover.

What else is there to say about the Cavs?

    3. Quietly, the Cavs are the real team to fear in this run for the eighth spot.

The media keeps focusing on the Hawks/Knicks. That's legitimate. They are basically tied for the eighth spot.

But who has the toughest schedule of the bunch? By far it's the Knicks who play:

    Wizards
    @Heat
    @Raptors
    Bulls
    @Nets
    Raptors

It's easy to see that that is almost the entire Eastern Conference playoffs, all to finish out the Knicks season. And it's not the bottom half, it's the upper middle and top half.

That is about as bad as it gets excluding any Western Conference match-ups, which there wouldn't be this late in the season anyhow.

So the Knicks have it very rough.

The Hawks? We will get to them soon.

Now to the Cavs. The Cavs sit two games in back of both the Hawks and Knicks.

They have 7 games remaining which are:

    @Hawks
    Bobcats
    Pistons
    @Bucks
    Celtics
    Nets

Now it is very likely that last game of the season may mean nothing to the Nets. The odds certainly increased given what happened to them vs. the Knicks putting them back further into 5th.

Therefore, the only real test is the Bobcats. And of course, this game at the Hawks.

So the next two games for the Cavs will decide their season where they are 2 games back of the eighth seed with 6 to play. They can gain a full game on the Hawks who are losing anything and everything lately and still have to leapfrog the Knicks too.

Of ALL those games remaining, which game with the Cavs give their maximum effort in in your opinion and leave everything out on the floor?

The answer is obvious. It's this game @ the Hawks.

If they lose, they fall three games in back of the Hawks and the season is over. All in a single Friday night...

So look at what we have accomplished since the Pistons Bucks bet.

We took team that had nothing to play for and bet on them to win laying half a dozen, and tonight, after correcting ourselves and listening to criticism we are backing a team that will fall 3 back with 5 to play (99% chance you're done for if you lose), that MUST leave it all out on the floor vs. the team currently tied for eighth.

Now that is a NEW AND IMPROVED BET is it not?

And by the way, don't think all the Cavs players weren't aware of the Knicks demolishing the Nets, a team they must leapfrog and looked like one of the league's best for one night. They understand their performance vs. the Hawks must be equally outstanding to get the job done and inch closer to an eighth spot with a Knicks team that has a mighty large mountain to climb. The Knicks and Cavs had much higher expectations this season and the Cavs increased theirs at the trading deadline. The message is clear. The Knicks are stepping up for that eighth spot. So must the Cavs.

So, we have established the Cavs are a great side in this game. But they are only great if the other side is weak, and most of all, preferably tanking.

Well we got that terrible tanking with the Bucks last time out. Except the Bucks were playing SUCH a terrible Pistons team (one poster called the game a 'horror show' and I got a laugh out of that as well as the jokes about Charlie V's play), that the cover wasn't achieved by a spider's web strand.

This time we need the same type of team do we not?

We do. But how do we get that when we have a team that is still tied for the eighth spot (technically the Knicks have it by .2% but the Hawks have less games in the loss column so that is fuzzy math and we'll call it a tie).

This now comes down to one man.

    3. Quietly, the Cavs are the real team to fear in this run for the eighth spot.

The media keeps focusing on the Hawks/Knicks. That's legitimate. They are basically tied for the eighth spot.

But who has the toughest schedule of the bunch? By far it's the Knicks who play:

    Wizards
    @Heat
    @Raptors
    Bulls
    @Nets

    @Hawks
    Bobcats
    Pistons
    @Bucks
    Celtics
    Nets

Now it is very likely that last game of the season may mean nothing to the Nets. The odds certainly increased given what happened to them vs. the Knicks putting them back further into 5th.

I know you think that's insane and I'm crazy but if you let me explain, you will see why John F. Kennedy will help you win this game.

    4. John F Kennedy and conspiracy theories

Despite all the evidence suppression, all the questions, Jack Ruby, the Zapruder film, the number of bullets, the sketchy autopsy, the witness accounts and on and on and on, if you believe John F Kennedy was killed by anyone other than Lee Harvey Oswald, or even believe he had assistance of any kind, thereby rebuking the official government report on the JFK's assassination, you are a 'conspiracy theorist'.

I don't care where you stand on the shooting. The important thing to discuss here are those last two words.

They are used to discredit you. They are used to shame you. They are used to take your opinion and be a subject of scorn and mockery.

There is a very simple way to make this happen. Find the target (the person who expresses an alternate opinion but what might be a very legitimate opinion on a subject with scant evidence and/or redacted official evidence) and stigmatize them.

Before you know it, many other people, afraid they too will be stigmatized and ultimately ostracized from the in-group, will join in and call you a fool.

Well now back to the game.

What has happened with the Hawks over the past several days is this lingering question that they do not want the eighth spot. Yes, that they are tanking.

I was watching NBA TV this morning and Rick Fox was questioning a reporter from the Atlanta Journal Constitution, and he said "Now some people may say the Hawks may not waaaaant to win these games" (said just as I wrote it).

After that he smirked and gave a wry smile. The reporter giggled, quickly denied it and called it preposterous and before you know it, the conversation was onto another topic.

What did that whole exchange do?

Clearly, it stigmatized anyone who thought there was even a remote possibility that the Hawks could be tanking despite, and this is key, VERY public evidence and statements supporting such a thing.

    So what is the evidence.

    5. The evidence the Hawks are tanking and will continue to tank.

First off, the Hawks have lost an eye popping 21 of 28.

They'd even be heading into this Cavs game with an 8 game losing streak if they didn't beat the Sixers, who were coming of their highest of high, the win over the Pistons that broke the streak. Even though they got the win, the Sixers jumped out to a 31-18 lead on the Hawks home floor and the Hawks did not take the lead until the middle of the third! Amazingly, they didn't cover the outrageous 12.5 spread and won by an unimpressive 8 points.

So first we have a massive plummet into the eighth spot, which they just gave up sole possession of in a loss to the Bulls.

Then we find they can only beat the Sixers (which everyone and anyone beats) as they almost went on an 8 game losing streak that could have gotten longer...all this while fighting for an eighth spot.

    But there's more.

There have been public proclamations from the GM and coach, that do not harshly rebuke the Hawks tanking when questioned. In fact, these quotes mildly condone it!

Right before the Sixers Hawks game the GM was asked about the games between them and the Knicks. His response?
Danny Ferry: "Candidly, I don't pay the amount of attention to the standings that you would expect."

Imagine this! The GM doesn't know his team is going to miss the playoffs. How could he not care? Because he doesn't want the Hawks to make the playoffs, period.

You are not a conspiracy theorist for thinking that after a quote like this. You are not to be stigmatized for thinking such a thing in the face of empirical evidence.

How do we know Ferry could be tanking? The Hawks unloaded tons of payroll in the offseason, by far the biggest being what might be the among the worst big contracts in the NBA: Joe Johnson's to the Nets.

The Hawks acquired Antawn Jamison in February at the deadline. Think they could use him? Yes. What did they do with him? They simply pulled a Sixers/Granger and got rid of him...for nothing. Mind you this is a team that has started 21 different lineups (a different one every 4 games) this year and has been decimated by injuries. Oh, and when they waived him they were on an 8 game losing streak.
Yeah, I think they could have used him.

So they are losing a ton of games, waiving healthy bodies that they can use, and have a GM that doesn't know they will fall out of a playoff spot.

Oh they have a coach that doesn't either.

    I have the quotes:

Mike Budenholzer when asked about getting in the playoffs:

"Getting in or not getting in, I don't think of it that way...We're really just focused on building our habits...There's not a lot of time and energy I put into the standings."

Now we have the head coach giving a head nod to NOT making the playoffs or at least not caring.

Now typically I stop at the players. The players are not trying to tank. They are trying to win. Why would they want a draft pick to take their job.

Amazingly, on the Hawks, it appears the players are on the same page as the GM and Head Coach!

DeMarre Carroll when asked about missing the playoffs:

"Our biggest thing is, don't worry about the playoffs. It's about building a system."

Elton Brand on his increased workload given all the Hawks injuries (think you'd get a player to say he wants to step up, especially with the playoffs in the balance? Not on this Hawks team!):

    "It's been fun....but I'd rather not play 40"

So losing 21 of 28 is now 'fun' and complain about your minutes. And this is a key bench player!

Lou Williams when asked about the playoffs: (evasive to start and just wants to talk about individual games) "As players our job is to win games...the playoffs comes with winning games, so yes, it's important."

It's like pulling teeth here folks. These are the players. Finally a player admits the playoffs are important at the end of a second sentence when asked. But winning games is more important. Yeah, winning against the Sixers and none others.

I've also watched the Hawks post-game interviews. The locker room looks like a morgue on this team. Downtrodden looks everywhere. Mumbles to questions. How could it be any different with this much losing? Completely unmotivated and largely uninterested.

Now look at my team: The Knicks. Could you imagine Phil Jackson saying what Ferry said. If you caught him saying it while his phone was tapped, you'd be shocked, but Ferry says it publicly!

Could you imagine Carmelo or Amare or Tyson or even Pablo or JR saying was DeMarre said all with the playoffs hanging in the balance.

If they ever did, even ONCE, I can assure you, I wouldn't post them as a play!

On the court are the Hawks tanking? Well we discussed some of this but look at their last game vs. the Bulls.

With the eighth spot hanging in the balance, the league's lowest scoring team and one of the worst three point shooting teams scored 105 AT the Hawks and made 12 three pointers and shot 50% from 3. 50%! Meanwhile the Hawks had 16 turnovers which translated into 21 points for the Bulls.

Quotes: Korver: "A bunch of bad turnovers killed our momentum.

Lou Williams: "We had a lot of unforced turnovers. I had 5 myself." He says it like he's a child collecting seashells. "Daddy I found 5 seashells today!" Wow. And remember the importance of this game!

The point of all this is that the Hawks truly are building towards the future. If they make the playoffs it truly does hurt their future because they will be way out of the lottery given all the other teams that jump in and given they made the playoffs.

This is a first-year coach who apparently has marching orders to buy into what the GM is saying.

This is a decimated roster that also appears to believe what the coach is telling them from the GM.

This is a new system they are running and one that has used an astounding 21 different starting lineups (try winning consistently doing such a thing...unless of course, you are not trying to win consistently.)

Expectations for this team were low. But the plan the Hawks had, like the Sixers and Celtics and Magic and Jazz etc. was to get in the lottery in a loaded draft. But because the east is SO BAD, they are an eighth seed at 32-42, still a very bad team.

Compare this to the Knicks who have almost an identical record, just had an eight game winning streak and now is on a three game winning streak. Do you see why I picked them over a rock solid Nets team?

Compare this to the Cavs who have won 5 of 6 in a playoff push and isn't buying out players but trading for big ones at the trading deadline all to achieve the stated goal at the beginning of the season: Make the playoffs.

Well right now, the Cavs are not rock solid like the Nets are, but they are pretty damn solid and for our money, they are the bestlately ATS.

Can you believe I have even MORE information to support this Cavs pick as long as the above is?!

    I do...

    Miscellaneous Points

    1. I watched the Hawks Bulls game and I saw something strange. Mike Budenholzer (the coach, I know you didn't know) watched the Bulls go on runs and called his time-outs 1:30 to 2 minutes late. I thought I was crazy but I kept watching and instead of stopping the bleeding when the Bulls started scoring in chunks, he simply was allowing his team to sink far enough behind the Bulls that they would have much less hope of coming back.

Intentionally tanking or bad coaching? I don't care. I'm not betting the Hawks if a firing squad ordered me too.

    2. The Hawks have some layups on their schedule that could get them into the playoffs.

    Celtics
    Bucks
    Pistons

3 very possible wins for a team allegedly fighting for the playoffs.

How do you eliminate yourself. Lose against the Cavs and potentially drop 1 game behind the Knicks and allow the Cavs a shot to climb over you.

The point: Lose to the gritty Cavs. Make the nose dive look convincing at least.

    4. This game is at the Hawks. The Hawks fanbase is consistently rated one of the worst in the NBA with giant bands of empty seats even in playoff games. Lessens that home court advantage and hostile environment significantly. This crowd won't break any noise meters as a 12th man.

    5. The Hawks have made the playoffs 7 straight years. Is anyone going to go crazy if this team, with all its injuries, inconsistencies and a first year coach, doesn't?

    6. Kyrie Irving is back and looks like he's in very good game form. I said I wanted Waiters and Jack over Kyrie given how good they were playing but apparently, their great play as a backcourt has lit a fire on Kyrie who probably thought he was becoming (just a bit might I say) 'expendable'. Makes a little sense given he sat out during the Cavs biggest wins of the year. He looked great against Orlando in his comeback with 17PTS/8A/6R. This of course is their best player and he is back and we get to put our money on him.

    7. I said the 15 point comeback on the Knicks was the Cavs jumping off point. I wasn't wrong. They haven't stopped winning. Given everything I wrote here, are the Hawks the team to derail this Cavs team? I would say hell no.

    8. If the Hawks make the playoffs who will they play in the first round. Right now, it's the Heat. They would easily get swept in the bat of eyelash.

Now you have a Hawks team that is hinting it doesn't want to make the playoffs.

Do you think there is a chance in hell the Cavs might not want to make the playoffs, and if they do,  would there be another team OTHER than Lebron and the Heat that they would want to face???
No way. That is the team they want and if they keep winning, they will.

    Finally

    THE LINE.

There doesn't appear to be one. Strangely, the ESPN Sportcenter App is showing -4 HAWKS!

Folks if the Hawks are laying 4 here hold your bladder because that is an incredible line in favor of the Cavs! Virtually NOTHING I've said above is in that line and the books are simply saying the Hawks are home in a very tight playoff space and will give it there all AND they can lay points to a RED HOT Cavs team. This game goes FAR beyond that as I detailed.

I'm actually afraid to release this write-up before they release a line given the infinitely small chance a linemaker might read this (even at that, LC moved a second quarter line this year, I swear on my life it had to have been him as no second quarter line should ever move a full point).

I'll say this. If the Hawks are giving ANYTHING, jump all over it. I will have ML action on the Cavs as well if that Sportscenter app is correct. Go all the way to Cavs -1 and then we'll talk because I don't know where this line will end up if it goes crazy but I will be taking it a higher than 1 too (but the Cavs shouldn't be giving more than 1 at the absolute WORST, and that is said just for the benefit of this thread).

Lastly, When you cap, you don't cap a quote. You don't cap a conspiracy theory. You don't cap a team philosophy or future. But you DO take all of that in the aggregate and create an argument to support a side beyond the court of play. Vegas has all the numbers and stats and simulations and algorithms you could ever want.

We are human beings. This is the human element of capping. We capped the court here and off the court. Let the computers do their thing and you beat them or finding an edge by doing your thing.

Now a challenge: I challenge a single poster of the thousands of views of this thread, to tell me and give me even two paragraphs on why the Hawks are a great side countering my argument.

Don't wait around folks, except for the same old trolls, there wont' be A SINGLE ONE, in all seriousness.

Who do you want your money on. A red hot Cavs team, on the court and ATS with their season on the line or this Hawks team, who, might want to play and very well, might not?

And now, we put a leash on vegas and make em give us their best WOOF WOOF!

    THE PICK:

    CAVS +ANYTHING VS. HAWKS

    GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

Such a record would be useful in determining your handicapping credibility. I'm with you.  I hate the hawks after all the money I lost on this garbage team.  I especially don't like Teague.  Seems like he always know how to lose the game.

    14-7

(If you want to count the kings lakers game as a loss, a play I said was a primary ML parlay and tease play and both hit, you can count the side as a loss if you'd like @14-8).

You can do anything want with my record really.

It goes far beyond that as I explained.

It's a state of mind of an entire team right up to the GM that doesn't care about making the playoffs.

Compare that mindset to the Knicks.
