Human psychology, under these special circumstances, is tough to predict, Stevenp (as I learned today, in what was a tale of two halves). If you read my post #50, you'll see that I believe the fans will be forgiving. If the atmosphere is a positive one, and the fans get behind the team, I really don't think GS will stand a chance. Also, consider this. The players must be angry by this point. Angry for being put in this situation, angry at their owner, even angry at themselves for being a part of the organization. This anger must find an outlet. I think in the 2nd half you started to see some of that anger channelled into their focused play. I'm hoping to see more of it in the next game.

it's good your sticking to your perspective. i'm adjusting to heavy reality of the situation. of course, the fans will back them. the fans are lemmings (like ourselves) addicted to this charade that makes the slave owners like donald sterling or the oligarchs like prokeroff billions while the lemmings fork over ridiculous cash and waste all our time buying a watered down high scoring product with pumped in crowd noise in atlanta (let's go hawks). But the african american players and coaches have friends and family who're listening to Al Sharpton and President Obama. This isn't a weird injury. This is a major civil rights issue; their charade, their relationship in the big house of donald sterling has brought a pox down on their house. and those players feel it.
anyway, we'll see tuesday. should be fun!

You may be right, Stevenp. I have no idea at this point. These playoffs have been so unpredictable (the lines so sharp), and yet, here is a situation where you might as well throw the line out cause who knows what will happen. You must, however, admit that the Clippers were a different team in the 2nd half and fought for a comeback, even if it didn't happen. Now they may change their mind in the next couple of days and go back to protest mode. But the Clippers team that showed up in the 2nd half, can beat the warriors at home.

With regard to you life philosophy and 'purpose' I have a lot to say, but I won't. You've likely heard some of it before and I won't change your mind.
But something does have to change.
You CANNOT allow your life philosophy overflow into other areas of your life.
It MUST be segregated (ironic choice of words in a thread like this).
For example, almost no person of a Christian faith would ever ask coworkers to join hands by the printer and pray for a great day of work. Why? They'd be fired.
Also, they wouldn't let their personal faith affect their job performance.
You are doing the opposite.
You are letting questions of 'purposelessness' affect your capping and betting. I also see it affecting this job you are going to get.
You cannot let this happen.
They are two distinct and indpendent areas if you want to succeed.
You cannot let uncertainty, anxiety and directionlessness and ultimately purposelessness creep over into your betting or affect your job performance or there will be only one result: failure.
Segregate that life philosophy today and you will be on much firmer ground with a much more certain path.

BB i've really enjoyed your insight and enthusiasm on covers. i've thought about this clips warriors game. and i think all the policitial stuff aside, game five should be close; cause both teams are playing for all the marbles. i do think the donald sterling thing is a huge distraction-- on top of the fact that chris paul was not moving that well on sunday. but i look forward to it and more discussion. good luck

Stevenp, thanks for the conversation. I've enjoyed my time on covers, much more than betting on games where I'm at the mercy of "luck." I've learned a lot from everyone here but I've learned even more through the countless mistakes I've made; unfortunately, it might be too late for me. Only someone with my luck can create a post entitled "free money" only to have the whole thing blow up in his face by the actions of not just one, but two owners! First the Warrior's owner rolling his eyes at Jackson on national TV and now this giant, sad debacle (how could I ever have foreseen all that?). The answer is, I couldn't. Perhaps it is time to bump my 2nd post on the series entitled "A series of biblical proportions" which some people scoffed at. And yet, look at this series now. As you pointed out, it is no longer just about basketball. Now the Clippers (not the team but the owner and organization) are seen as evil villains that need to be taken out, one way or another. And who better to do it than Mark Jackson's 12 apostles? In fact, they (the Clippers) have become so stigmatized, through the actions of their owner, that even they see themselves as contemptible and unworthy. And yet, all this, the losing, the bad luck, the farcical actions and reactions of everyone involved (from owners to fans to media), instead of making me cry makes me want to laugh.

You are a wise man indeed. Wish I had some of that wisdom (or perspective) or at least the metal discipline I need to compartmentalize my life, as you suggest. Mellossinglet makes a good point, we are all slaves to our beliefs (for better or worse) but I also think transformation is possible; it just takes a lot of work. Work that I'm not prepared to do, for whatever reason. I'm looking for something outside myself (a job, gambling, etc) to save me from myself instead of looking within. Thanks again, friend.

If they lose tonight then you can bet on the dubs in game 6 to close these guys out. But I think with them being home, you gotta play it out. I don't like the fact that the players are more concerned right now with how they will stage their next protest than the game (in fact, Rivers gave them Monday off). It means that the series is an afterthought. However, I also think it will be a very emotional night and once they start playing and feeding off the positive energy from the crowd the basketball court will become a safe haven for them, and they will pull through.

Believe me when I tell you (and this is to Melo as well), that you can segregate this "purposelessness" mindset. You are NOT a slave to it.
How do I know? I've done it and it makes life 1,000,000 times more livable.
It also doesn't take a lot of work either. It just takes the right advice. And I've gotten it and it has worked and changed me for the better exponentially.
