Some could effectively argue this is not an "Instrumental" I would not argue. Ir really does not feature any single instrumentalist. There is a soft piano backdrop. During the crecendo portion, the Hammond organ and drums are featured, but not with an overriding spotlight.
The song basically features an amazing vocalist performance... a performance in which no lyrics are sung. A woman bellowing an emotional explosion. There is Joy Fear, Despair, Relentlessness, and finally Peace all felt with not a word spoken. I really feel this may be the best vocalist performance I have heard recorded. Interpretations are vast, but I feel this is the emotions that a woman goes through during sex.
So not so much of an "instrumental" as most would think of the category.
As for Dark Side being the best album... I will back off there. There are so many. It is in the conversation for sure.
Great Gig in the Sky

I got a DVD of a Behind the Music thing of the MakingofDSotM and I remember that the vocalist was white and they couldn't perform the song easily because her riff was difficult to recreate. MUGG may know .
