First off:  Beatles don't count cause they were not from this universe.

My list is long because I tend to favour English bands, but Besides THE CURE, I would have to say THE WHO

This one should get some good responses.

Floyd is also not even in the universe ...awesome.......

Goota agree with SuckItUp that The Clash would be my choice for best mortal English band......I really enjoyed Mick Jones solo work with his band Big Audio Dynamite....Saw them live in '87 I think....Met and had a beer with Mick at a venue called Janus Landing in St. Petersberg.........Really cool dude.......

How about Bowie?  DM for sure Depeche
New Order?  Genesis?  The Floyd somehow is other worldly but I knew Mugg would chime in with that one.

Queen?  Man, the list is long

Well, if we're eliminating all top tier bands, Led Zeppelin is out as well.
That leaves us with bands like the Clash, Sex pistols,................& UFO, who get my vote.

For serious now, my list goes like this:
  1. The Who
  2. Zeppelin
  3. The Clash

I know I'm going to get killed for saying this but Floyd doesn't do it for me like the bands listed above (not saying I don't like them though).

The Kinks is a good call........................won't drill you for not liking PF, but the Clash can't be put in the same class as PF or the others.

D Hop....I think I would have given my right nut back in the day to have had a beer with Mick Jones.....must have been great.

No one's mentioned Elton John yet?  And I'm only talking about the early stuff....mid 70s and earlier.....good stuff.

I'd throw The Smiths on the list as well.

Too many great English bands..........
