Something to watch for in Spring Training. There will be value for the first month or two, if you can spot them early. I feel confident the Covers team can put together a pretty good list and drill down from there.
It still may be a little early for this thread but I think there will be to be made with this type of discussion.

What do you mean by "This year's Zack Greinke"? Do you mean this season's young ace who wasn't last season, or just any under the radar stud of any age?

Thanks Sparky, good point. I meant this season's young ace who wasn't last season.
Once the spring training games get going I think this will be a more relevant discussion. I still need to do more research but I thought this would be something worth watching for during the exhibition games.
Zack won me a lot of the first two months of the season and had decent value up until he found himself on the cover of SI.

Anderson (Oakland), he was rediculous in the second half of last year and you got to assume that the A's will be underdogs in the majority of their games especially early.
Another guy that i'm gonna be backing all year is Anibal Sanchez. The guy was incredibly unlucky last year. His numbers should be much better this year.
Also, Shaun Marcum depending on his health especially early in the season

I'm kinda high on Mat Latos. For some reason I just feel he'll have a great season. Or...at least first half. I'm also liking Ryan Rowland-Smith but I don't think he'll be as good as the other 2 in the rotation, but I think he'll be really solid this season which is the reason for my soon to be over bet on the Mariners' win total. Another guy I think can have a breakout season is Matt Harrison of the Rangers. He was very good before getting hurt and if he is back in the rotation, I think he'll be very productive. And finally...I like Mark Rzepchinski (sp?). Now I really don't have anything to back these up. It's more of a feeling. But these are certainly my top guys to look out for during the season. And maybe add Ian Kennedy to this list if he pans out during Spring Training. Just a hunch.

I'll have a couple of new ones in the coming weeks, I just thought it was worth thinking about as we get the first games going. I'm sure it will help us down the road

Awesome, I like Anderson, Latos, and Hansen

Thanks Sparky. I did not feel like looking it up. I stand corrected. Hopefully we can get lines like that on him this year.
How about the Matusz kid? Or the Texas youngsters-Holland etc..? Might catch solid value lines with them.
Matusz and Bergesen both sick young arms. I think balty has a much improved-season this year. And watch out for a healthy adam jones.
Also think Guthrie is going to have his breakout year. When he can get out of the first inning unscathed, and has his command going early, he is always capable of a quality start. If he can get consistent, and start off as well as he finishes, he can have a 15 win season.
Balty may be a very solid play-on early as I think we'll see them dogged a fair amount because of last years perception. Great young lineup with reimold weiters jones tejada (vet) markakis. Gonna look at their April schedule in a bit.

I like Ohlendorf...but not as much. I like him a lot more at home.
Now...as much as I give jpero shit...I do honestly believe that Matusz or Bergesen will be really good. I don't predict BOTH...but I do think at least 1 will be really good.

I think Scherzer may go through the same thing Porcello will go through with that rookie syndrome. It just seems to happen with people who go tons of innings in their 2nd season. I mean...170 innings for Porcello has got to be a lot more than he's ever pitched before. And he was really used down the stretch. Scherzer also pitched 170 innings and he's going to the AL which may be really hard on him. But who knows? We'll see soon enough. Baseball officially starts on Tuesday with the Mets and Braves. I can't wait!!!

Can't wait for a daily babes thread. Agree with your sentiments about the D-Backs as well. Their pen is still scary even with M. Gonzalez closing. He can be an adventure, plus he has never pitched in the AL before (?). This might be a 1st 5 inning team that will pad your wallet. J.Johnson is solid, Meredeth can be effective as long as your protect him against LH hitters. Know anything about the Japanese guy they signed?
