Angels -123
Risking 3.69 units to win 3 units
Blackburn started off the season great last year...but then he just went on a stretch where he was AWFUL. However...he did finish on a strong note. But the thing is...the Angels just dominate this guy. In 85 at bats...they have a .376 BA and .413 OBP.
Abreu .538 (7-13) 1 HR...4 RBI
Aybar .154 (2-13) 1 RBI
Rivera .500 (5-10) 1 RBI
Kendrick .500 (5-10) 3 RBI
Hunter .333 (3-9) 1 RBI
Izturis .222 (2-9) 2 RBI
Morales .250 (2-8) 1 RBI
Napoli .500 (4-8)
Matsui .333 (1-3)
And this Angels' team can flat out hit to begin with. Now throw in a pitcher they hit well and you have a good formula. Now...lets switch to the other guy on the mound. Joe Saunders. IMO...he has a HUGE advantage in this game being a lefty. But I'll get into that in a bit. In 83 at bats...the Twins hit .241 with an OBP of .267.
Punto .333 (4-12)
Morneau .250 (3-12) 2 RBI
Thome .100 (1-10) 1 RBI
Young .333 (3-9) 1 HR...3 RBI
Mauer .000 (0-8) 1 RBI
Hudson .667 (4-6)
Span .429 (3-7) 1 RBI
Cuddyer .333 (1-3)
Back to the thing about the Twins v lefties. I think the Twins will be the AL Central Winners this season. The only problem I think they'll have is when they face lefties. Mauer, Morneau, Kubel and Thome are all lefties. 4 of their 5 power guys are lefties and that will be a little concerning if they face a lefty. On top of that...Span is a lefty and he's a spark for that team. So that leaves Hardy, Hudson, Cuddyer and Young. Not that much to choose from. Especially when Mauer, Morneau and Kubel are usually bunched together in that lineup. Somebody will sure to be a rally killer there. It's simply the odds of the situation. So...with that said...this will be my top play of the day.

hey sparky first time in here, i'll be following for sure, love the writeups, glad to see you use that bat v pitcher stats b/c i use that greatly in deciding my bets , was wondering what you thought about taking the astros 2morrow? BOL ![]()
Well...the line is right. The pitching matchup is in favor of the Astros (on paper). But I couldn't put money on the Astros just yet. I don't know too much about their lineup but it looks like their offense is a 1-4 type of offense. 5-9 looks like they can be hit or miss...but miss many more times. Feliz, Towles, Manzella? I mean...I've heard of these guys...but not because they can hit. So if you plan to take the Astros...you need to expect Lee, Pence and Bourn to put up all the runs needed. That may be a bit more to ask for. So until the bottom of the lineup shows me that they can at least put up serviceable numbers...or at least a few of them...then I can't bet them. And this hurts me because I thought they could be over .500 this season and I have a season wins total bet on their over.

I agree the over looks great at first glance...but there wasn't enough to support it. The Rays have bad numbers against Millwood...and since I haven't seen Millwood pitch yet...and don't know for sure if he'll be the same Millwood who pitched last year or if he's now over the hill. Both offenses are solid...but I would need more info to pull the trigger. ![]()

Yup...I gave a little writeup about it on the first page though. But to add to that...their bullpen scared the shit out of me. I can trust Aceves and Mariano (because they didn't pitch on Sunday) and Joba. The line is way too high to take the Sox and I just couldn't put money on the Yanks until I see them go around the first few times. They are usually slow starters to begin the season anyway. It's a great line...but I don't want to put money into a play for value alone when I'm not overly confident.

I love the Twins' offense...but not against lefties. So I couldn't take the over. I'd lean the over because I really like the Angels' offense...but because of the lefty situtation...I couldn't do it. ![]()

Very nice stat. I did not know that. Well...it's too late now. But what I do know is that Kubel is really bad against lefties. After looking it over...Morneau and Span have better averages against lefties than rights while Mauer is Mauer against anybody (I knew that one). Kubel and Thome are bad against lefties though. And aside from that...Saunders is still better than Blackburn right now (imo) and the Angels still have a better lineup than the Twins imo. But this does change my mind a bit on the total. Thanks for bringing that up. ![]()
