Yankee fans are clueless.  How can they not think that their ballpark is a joke?  There is a reason why every single sports show, announcer, analyst, etc. calls it the biggest joke in baseball this year.  And no, Yankee fans, it's not because everyone "hates" the Yankees.  It's just common sense, something that most of you lack.  Check the numbers:
 
Jeter last year 11 homers
this year 9 homers, 7 at home
 
Cano last year 14 homers
this year 10 homers, 4 at home
 
Damon last year 19 homers
This year 13 homers, 9 at home
 
Cabrera last year 8 homers,
This year 6 homers, all at home'
 
Tex 13 out of 20 homers at home
 
Posada 6 out of 9 homers at home
 
ARod 8 out of 9 homers at home
 
Matsui 5 out of 9 homers at home
 
The only player hitting better on the road than at home is Swisher.
 
So no, the Yankees do not have the best lineup.  Maybe top 5, but I'd definitley take the Phillies, Bo Sox, Rays, Rangers over 'em from top to bottom.

I'm not a yankee fan either.  Actually, I don't even like them.  And I agree 100% that the ballpark is a joke.  However, it still shouldn't take anything away from their lineup.  When talking about the best lineup, I don't think their ballpark should be a handicap toward's them.  It's not like they don't hit on the road, or haven't hit well in the past.  Most of the guys in that lineup are established hitters.  And besides, most of the top offensive teams do play in hitter's ballparks.

Looked pretty damn good yesterday, oh but that was only 15 runs in one game.

unlike Phi and NYY they dont play in a joke bandbox of a stadium, they have power, speed, avg.

Yes it does but you make a decnt point at the end there...But its like those asswipes that used to play for Colorado like Dante Bichette, Larry Walker,Vinny Castilla...Matt Holliday

i'll just go right ahead and say who cares about the best hitting line-up, pitching wins in october.
 
even if I wasn't a sox fan, i'd still take boston's pitching staff from top to bottom over any team right now.

Papi and gwarner this isnt a discussion about what wins championships. Although you need to be balanced and offense is part of that. The yanks won 4 titles in 5 yrs from 96-2000. What was the most important part of that team to me? There lineup and ability to put runs on the board in key situations. Im pretty sure you cant win scoring  0. Again though this is not a topic about what it takes to win a title.

This "great" boston pitching is 14th in mlb in era and its even that high mostly because of the bullpen which has been great. I dont know the sox pen era. I know where the yanks is at though but to gloat over this fantastic boston pitching, you guys are jokes. Talk about just looking at the names on jerseys and thinking they are dominant.

to be honest I think you are still steaming from the spanking the Yanks got this past week in Fenway and needed to come up with any angle you could to try and show the Yankees are better then the Red Soxs,
Maybe you should just wait till the end of the year and see who has the better record, or even better head to head record.
I show the Yanks are 0-8 so far LOL

Why dont you reread what I have said again....I was answering your questions....Do the Red Sox have the best Power hitting lineup-   NO.....Do they have one of the best overall lineups- YES when you look at everything the offense does.....

Osirus-    I want to know why you have not responded to my proof that the Yanks stadium has provided more homeruns this year.....20 % of the homeruns this year would not have been homeruns in the old Yankees stadium  .....20 %

  I wasnt referring to you being unreasonable.  To gwarner and whoever if they want start a thread about the 8-0 or what it takes to win in the postseason then fine. This was about offense and woops absurd praising of the boston lineup yesterday saying it was by far the best in the game.  I put out the stats on boston pitching because they are true.

Agree that you can't judge the averages based on the new park. Home Runs obviously are adjusted to the park. But do note...Swisher, untill last week, had not hit a home run at the new park and had a good amount overall. And he's hitting soooo much better on the road. And if you look at Tex's 13 homers at home, a good 10-11 would be gone in ANY ballpark, including Petco. There was an instance where it carried to left that I remember when he broke the bat, and probably 1 or 2 more but most were 2nd deck/bleacher bombs.
 
Back to the topic on hand...On paper, the Yankees have the best lineup. But the Sox lineup can surprise you. 1-5 is a no doubter, Ellsbury, Pedroia, Youkilis, Bay and Lowell that is, but the rest is in question. Green can be a surprise, Varitek has a little power this season, and Lugo can get on base more than others but the rest is pretty shitty. Green can be a surprise, but for the most part, is a better defender than a bat, Baldelli, same thing. Drew has power but isn't always healthy enough to be consistant. I don't know what to say about Ortiz at this time. And I really don't know what Jed Lowrie adds to the team and why him coming back is so important but I guess thats my ignorance towards the Sox.
 
As for the Yankees, this is a topic I can get more into. Now Jeter, after the series against the Mets, boosted his average from .298 to .310 and is the only Yankee hitting over .300 while I believe the Red Sox top 5 are all over .300. And I really don't have to talk about Jeter because most Sox fans know that he is good and the people who say different are out of their mind. He's only really faulted on the defensive end a little bit. He's not what he once was but he hasn't declined all that much either. Damon is striking out more than usual but he is a patient hitter and loved the new ballpark.  No need to talk about Tex. Just imagine what his stats would be like if A-Rod started off the season without an injury. A-Rod is still coming back from injury, don't forget that. He's finally starting to steal again so expect his average to stop rising pretty soon. Cano is reeeeally heating up of late. He's a great hitter and usually is only good in hot weather, which is his problem. Don't be surprised if he gets to be over .320 by the end of the season. Swisher...I have no idea what to say about him. Matsui is night and day. He can be the streakiest hitter in the game, both ways. He can either be absolutely horrible for a span or be incredible for a span. Pretty hard to determine. His longest hitless streak is 16 games, which has happened 3-4 times in his career. Melky has been clutch this season, has pop, more speed than others and knows how to play the game, both small ball and not. Posada is a better hitting catcher than most in the league. There are a handful of catchers who are good hitters, he is one of them. The Yankees' bench is scary bad. Cervelli's bat is pretty good, but not outstanding. Gardner has his speed but needs to get on base first. Pena is only good with the glove and Berroa sucks. Everyone is patient aside from Cano and he's been working on that. He's walked at a much better rate than last season.
 
Thats my take on this, my hands hurt.

I will take Lester and Beckett over any 2 the Yanks want to throw out.....CC and Joba, CC and Burnett.

The Bosox ERA is 4.25 and the reason that is so high is because of Penny and Dice-K....But this number will come down as the year goes on.  The Yanks team ERA is 4.84  .....Bosox are 5th in the AL.....Then add in the best Bullpen in the majors.

having the best lineup is just a route to winning a championship, because frankly who the fuck cares if you have a good lineup when you're watching the WS in October??

Would I like to pitch against the Yankees? Hell no.
Would I play UNDERs in the Bronx? Not with that lineup in that ballpark.

...all i have been saying is that their numbers are skewed from that park so using stats for HRs, RBIs, TBs, XBH, etc. is irrelevant

And the Phillies' lineup, imo, is better than the Red Sox lineup because they have a better 6-9, and about an even 1-5.
 
And the Angels' lineup isn't too shabby. Figgins, Abreu, Hunter, Vlad and Rivera 1-5. Not bad at all. Napoli at the bottom of the lineup is productive, Morales has pop, and Izturis and Aybar are great small ball players with speed. Surprised nobody mentioned them...unless I missed it.

I love how a thread about offense leads to team's ERAs. I just hope the Rockies settle down and come back down to earth so the Yanks can make a charge at Street. And maybe Valverde. Even though Bruney probably won't appreciate his antics. If he doesn't like K-Rod, he sure won't like Valverde. There is no doubt that the Red Sox' pitching is better than the Yankees', but the Yankees have to do work. No doubt about it. Bruney is the best they got and he's hurting. Now that is a scary thought or a good one as we really don't know what Bruney can do since he's been gone for so long. Obviously Aceves and Mariano can't handle the Sox so well, which is a problem because Aceves is the key to the bullpen right now. But just remember...Joba is on an innings limit and will return to the bullpen sometime this season. If he's productive, then there is the 8th inning guy if they are in the playoffs, which they really should be by at the very worst, Wild Card. Seriously? Whose better in the AL than the Sox and Yanks right now? Even after being 8-0 against the Yanks their only 2 games out. 1 team is holding them back and thats it right now. If Bruney is actually healthy, he's a very affective 7th inning guy, Joba can handle the 8th, and Mo is in the 9th. The Red Sox can go 18-0 against the Yanks this season, but it's what happens in October that means everything. Remember when the Yanks were 6-0 or 8-0 or something like that against the Tigers in 06? Didn't mean a damn thing in October. I'm just saying.

I love how this guy in my fantasy league thinks that I'm such a moron that he can just take Lester away from me with Chipper Jones.  Hey...maybe I'll cave if he adds Zobrist and try to take Jurrjens as well.

I do realize that about him at times, but recalling the acc/big east wars i think he  really means it at times.   Now you mention the eras of the sox which is including penny and dicek but lester is 4.76 and wake is 4.50. Beckett is over 4 as well. Fact is none of the starters on EITHER team are performing that consistent. The sox pen has been much much better and i dont think we even need to argue that. Beckett and lester have been prone to big innings just as they can be dominant. Beckett has done that alot in his career. Regular season wise you dont see any 2.80 era years by him so i dont think its shocking to see him struggle at times.  As for me responding to the hrs? I realize the increase and numbers but i also watch almost every game and there have been some bombs hit that go out anywhere. Their lineup has alot to do with it. Is the park a joke? Shit at the very least if they dont win a title im entertained so its fine by me. I like offense    3-1 games are boring.

     Sparky my one rule in fantasy baseball is to win without red sox pitchers. I cant have them because then i have to root for the sox to win. Now drafting sox hitters is different because they can do well and still lose. Im in first and dominating my league by the way so this strategy hasnt backfired    I used ortiz as my first pick in 06 i think?

Well...I look at it the same way as gambling. I can bet on the Yankees and root for them all I want, it doesn't mean they will win. And you know this as well as I do...when do the Yankees ever beat Lester anyway?
