You kidding me? There are at least 10 million Yankee fans that are already sold on next year the day after the Yankees are eliminated for from the playoffs. They have become the Dodgers of the 1950's. It is always "next year is our year". They will put 20 billion dollars and lots of entertainment on the field to sell $400 box seats, but trophies don't cash at the bank. Trophies are for romanticists, money is of interest to commercial interests. George was the end of any Yankee desire for trophies. "Show me the money" has been the rule ever since.

Solid move for the Stros. Abreu always was and still is a tough out at the plate.
A career .292 batter. Last year he recorded his lowest strike out rate at 16.2%, and second highest BB rate at 9.1%.
Being in a lineup of like minded batters, pitching through this lineup will be a tall task imo.

The Yankees have very expensive seats to sell. Catering to the fans entertainment demands is far more important than stuffing trophies in a case. I say he gets it and passes Trout in the AAV category, north of $35.5 million per year. Wanna scream about it? Think Ohtani, when his turn comes

Giving Judge $300 mil is downright stupid, and a waste of money for a guy who will be 31 next year, when his contract will supposedly begin. He will probably take whatever the Yankees give him, the Giants wont give out such a contract to anyone, hell they didn't even give it to Madbum, and the guy basically won them a WS all by himself. Ok the guy has to be repaid for this season, I get that, but this was his career season, he wont be able to replicate it.
So imagine this, if the Yankees do sign Judge, for $300 mil, this will mean that next year they will pay a total of $105.5 mil to just 3 guys: Cole, Stanton and Judge + I almost forgot, add to that $21 mil for Donaldson, so NY will pay 4 guys $126.5 out of the $233 mil luxury tax, projected for 2023. They will probably go over the luxury tax, they can surely afford it, but my point is they wont be competitive, at least not as long as Cashman is the manager.

I think they will pay it, and what if Judge is another Ryan or Verlander and plays to age 40? Six years at $35 million would not surprise me, just so he can pass Trout for AAV honors until someone opens up Fort Knox for Ohtani
As for Cashman, I couldn't agree more. A bottomless check book does not make a G.M. a great G.M. Dombrosky is the same sort. When he interviews his first question is "What's your payroll budget?" If he can't buy a team, he can't produce one.

I don't see how a guy of his size plays for that long, at a high level, it's a waste of money either way, the only unknown will be for how many years will they overpay, 2-3? The rumors were he wanted to be the biggest payed position player, so Trout is at a little over $35 mil, the Yankees are giving him $37.5 mil, now the problem is he wants more years?! For a guy who portrays himself as a standout christian he sure is greedy... NY will probably go to a 8 years/$320 mil offer, as their ceiling probably.
Cashman is just... how many more years do you give a guy to win another WS? It's been 13 years since his last one and the Yankees haven't even played a WS since then! I don't think they don't want to win a WS, but as long as the money comes in I guess it really doesn't bother them. Last time I checked, a game @ Yankee Stadium brings in ~$6 mil. If doing the same thing over and over again doesn't work, bring in somebody new with a different approach, especially since the money aren't an issue.
Speaking of Verlander, rumors say he wants a 3 year/$120 mil, which is absolutely insane, for a 39 years old guy.
The Winter Meetings being Sunday in San Diego, so next we will probably see some big contracts being handed out, although I think all the other big FAs on the market are waiting to see for how much Judge will sign...
Yanks should just do 6 years 230 mill. with a 2 or 3 year option for when he is 37 and probably hasnt played a full season in a couple years.

The deal is done: 5 years $185 mil contract, which includes a 6th year option that would take the total deal to $222 mil, also full no-trade clause. All this for a 34 years old guy, so I guess it makes sense for him to take the money, but what are the Rangers thinking here?! You add a guy like this as piece of a missing puzzle, the Rangers are nowhere near that. The Mets are far more solid, in terms of being competitive, their only problem is that they are.... the Mets. It seems they offered him 3 years $120 mil deal, but it was too late, he already was in deep talks with the Rangers.
This contract sets a high bar, lets see what Verlander and Rodon are gonna get.
To give out a 3 years contract to a guy who will be 40, when the season starts next year, is a huge gamble.
Rodon will be 30 next week, the guy has the stuff and is worthy of 5-6 years contract.
I think the Rangers made their play, what it's baffling to me, and other people, is that if they had the money why not go for Rodon? deGrom has barely played in the last 2 years, he is much older, prone to injuries, it seems like the Rangers wanted to make a splash and deGrom just took the money.
You can set your watch to a Degrom injury the last 3 years.
It first starts with fatigue, they skip a start to give him rest. Then it's forearm tightness. And then he disappears for 2 months.
And when he comes back is when the Mets need him most. But he's on an innings count.
Throwing 99+ is impressive, but not sustainable. He's at that point in his career where he needs to learn to take something off, and "pitch". Rather than trying to smoke every batter till his arm falls off.

The guy was 5-4 last season so of course Texas gives him a 5 year 185 million which puts him behind Max for yearly salary, plus he could make 222 million with bonus. My guess is just getting over 20 starts would kick it in, unreal contract for a guy that will 45 at end of deal.
Which makes me ask if he gets that how about the WS winner with a nice 19-4 record, plus married to one of the hottest models, what is a team going to pay Verlander and Kate.

Here is a mind numbing stat: In just Verlander and Scherzer, the Mets have a payroll higher than 5 teams last year - Marlins, Guardians, Pirates, Orioles and A's - ridiculous... oh wait, there is more: if you add Lindor's contract it goes up to $120 mil, to just 3 guys, which passes the Mariners, Reds, Royals, Rays and Diamondbacks.
