I think he'll be good but not as good as everyone thinks. The guy has been brutal after the All Star break the last 2 years and for a guy to have a 3.07 ERA but a 1.21 WHIP is a bit of a red flag.

Being a Reds homer let me throw out Aaron Harang and anyone on the Reds who has a decent 2008. Harang should have been in the NL Cy Young top 3 the last 2 years. If Arroyo has a year in 2008 like he did in 2006, and Harang just stays consistent in 2008, that adds up to over 30 wins, over 400 K's, 450 IP, and about a 3.50 ERA. I know Arroyo had a crappy season last year, but that was mostly due to a really horrendus 8 week span, and an atrocius bullpen. Arroyo still had over 200 IP and an ERA of about 4.20. Think if the Reds have a decent bullpen, with what they've added in the off season it will hopefully be decent, how many wins Harang would have had the last two years. Or Harang and Homer Bailey if he is the real deal. Just wanted to throw Harang into the discussion since others are throwing out their ace and kicker if the kicker has a good year.

Come on dude, the closer is the most critical pitcher?? LOL. The closer is the most overrated position in baseball.

I agree, being a Reds fan I know this is true. The Reds stuck David Weathers in the closer's role the last two years. Just compare his stats to any other closer in baseball and then factor in what the Reds are actually paying him. That's why I think the Cordero signing was dumb. It shows they are trying to win which is nice, but there are all kinds of guys that could be closers that you could pay jack and then use the money elsewhere. Yeah, there are maybe five guys that are worth big bucks as a closer, everyone else should just use whoever can throw hard that can't cut it as a starter and save money.

Bedard and Felix have already had breakout years, so I don't think success this year can be characterized as "breakout."  However, as long as they stay healthy, they will both have monster years and will have the M's competing for the division.  Of note though, both spent considerable time on the DL last year.

Lowest ERA  Harren

Arizona is going far this year.... I am an A's fan and i hate the fact we just gave up Harren... he may struggle his first year, but that slow hitch before his delivery throws batter off when his pitches jump out.... I know the A's philosophy and thats to build em up and shit em out.... watch out for Blanton and Harden (if he can stay healthy)  Harden could win the cy-young if he can play a full season!

1 Webb and Harren
2 Verlander and Willis
with  Blanton and Harden in the mix if Blanton doesnt get traded and Harden can stay healthy

Haren and Willis are the my two players to watch in each league. If either struggles, they will bring their team down with them. I dont see how Willis will do it as far as Haren, being a Padres fan, I hope he struggles.

I'm not sold on Willis yet, but the ballpark will definitely help him.  Always a lot easier going Al to NL, than NL to AL.  Expect a decent year from Willis, but nothing too special.  14-11, 4.15

as long as they keep sending him ou there i agree w/ your 14 win assessment, however, i will be absolutely stunned if his era approached 4.15, everyone keeps talking bounce back and it looks like burn out to me.
