Hughes/Chamberlain will be the best this year and for years to come.

What about Smoltz/Hudson they were great last year.
Combined 430 IP,  329K,  and a combined ERA of 3.22

I realize wins are one of the most overrated stats in all of baseball because they are more indicative of run support, but, for what its worth these two combined for 30 wins.

You could also make a case for John Lackey and Ervin Santana (@ Home) lol I was just looking at E. Santana's splits and he had a  3.27 ERA @ home then an ERA of  8.38 on the road. Ouch.

dther - ervin was AWFUL on the road...dont know why scioscia even pitched him away from anaheim

CC/Carmona darn good in regular season, but man, did they stink in the playoffs. What do you call it when you're up 3-1, have these two guys start, and they both get killed?

The problem with Chris Young is that he allows way to many stolen bases which is a combination of his high leg kick and the Padres' catcher not being able to throw anyone out.

I also like the Penny/Lowe and soon to become Billingsley, Lowe is clutch and Penny seems to get out of the gate really quick

Definitely not the best 1-2 punch in the game, but don't underestimate Kazmir/Shields (or Garza)

a7, that's very true about Young.  He's exceptionally slow to the plate.  At 6' 10" it's hard not to be.  That's something he's going to have to work very hard to correct, because his stuff was virtually unhittable before the back problems.

These two will lead the rays to a historic year for Rays fans.   I hope.  I can believe in miracles right.

I would find a way to put Webb and Haren in that top 5.

I know, I had a hard time typing that up as well.  But, I do think now that he has a year under his belt he will make some big strides this year and give them a great 1-2 punch.  This is all speculation of course and he could fall off and lose 20 games.

honestly wicked, joba chamberlain has the potential to be so good he could pair up with one of those guys and be  a dominant 1-2. I dont know how many middle of the orders he made look silly last year. Hes nasty

I'll vote for Peavy and Young, Peavy needs no explanation but Young's road record last year was impressive beyond belief!!! Just wish the Pads could get some run support and then they'd deffo be big contenders
