As a die hard Cubs fan, I plan on avoiding Wrigley Field this season...The fans of the Cubs needed someone with Cub ties, someone like Ryne Sandberg... But no, the Cubs go with Mike Quade mainly because the players backed him...The winning record is insignificant because the games were meaningless with no pressure...Hopefully, more empty seats will lead to some major changes with this team..The Cubs needed a face, and got nothing...Another pathetic move by the Cubs screwing Sandberg over through the minor league system..Stay classy Cubs!

I think the new 5 tier ticket pricing system they created should keep the fans away more than Quade running the team.
They added 13 "marquee" games in order to juice the fans and tourists that want to see the Yanks, Sox, Cards, and one other team which I cannot recall.

Bottom line, the Cubs aren't going to be good regardless of the manager...However, despite Quade being in the organization for 9 years, the Tribune Co. was really preparing Ryne Sandberg to take the Cubs over ever since he started managing in rookie ball... And then Ricketts comes in and passes the manager in waiting for the flavor of the month. If I am Sandberg, I resign immediately and interview with whoever calls him.. Good luck to Ryno, he was my favorite player so I am biased, but I thought he deserved his chance to manage the Cubs...

If you're going to tighten the belt and suck for a few years, Quade is your guy, right? why waste a marquee hire when everyone knows this team is going nowhere. might as well trade marmol while they're at it

I like the move. Respect for Sandberg, but somehow I just don't see him as a successful MLB manager, and do the Cubs really need another celebrity manager, who is green to boot. Quade is just a good baseball man, who proved his stuff last season, pressure or not. He got a lot out of the players and worked well with them. They gave him a short deal. I like the move.

this is a perfect synopsis of dumbass cubs fan. They want to ride a sinking ship all the way down to the bottom because of the name of Lou pinella being captain...just a name. Just someone who had some good seasons mainly at least a decade ago. Then this same person lost his mojo. Period, Lou lost his mojo and his public ego became a distraction to the team. Do you not get that?
Now they bring in Mike quade, and the cubs start playing good baseball...(no surprise anyone coulda did better than lou). But i'm not taking anything away from Quade...he did a great job.
Now a dumbass cubs fan says instead of having a proven winner captain the team, they want a name. A media name. Totally oblivious to the fact that the players wanted mike quade...you know..the players, the entities that truly make up the team.
Wrigley field, nor it's beer drinking fans should have any bearing whatsoever on Cubs decisions.
This post pissed me off so bad I just had to reply. Do yourself a favor and don't be a cubs fan and just go follow the team joe torre manages so that way you'll feel better about your established media name.

Very disappointed with the move! Ryno is my all time favorite so im biased as well, but i feel like the least the organization could do is give me one of our own to cheer for again! Quade may be a decent manager but i have a feeling Ryno will be a great one! His record in the minors is just a taste but AAA manager of the year is only the beginning of the recognition he will be getting for years to come!! He has a fire in him for the game of baseball and more impotantly he has a passion for the cubs that competes with the amount that i have, which in itself gives me hope and a reason to keep doing this to myself!! I believe this is just another bad move committed by an organization that is defined by the word "failure"!! Lou had a lot of heart the first couple years he was here and they had success in the beginning, but he ran out of belief that he would be able to beat fate! Ryno would never give up on the cubs, his love and passion for the cubs would assure that!! Not sure we can say the same about Quade! Good luck Mike, I hope you prove me wrong!!!!

Who gives a crap who manages the team, the players suck, and the owner is going to sell out that giant sportsbar and make a bundle with a team of has beens and never will be's.
Ryno, Mr Clean, a stuffed Leo Durocher, who cares.

What the hell did Quade do to make anyone a big fan of his?! I guarentee if they pulled Ryno up or gave it to Trammel after Lou left they would of had success! Clearly the team did not like playing for lou and that was apparent when they all complained after he left about the way he ran things!! Fukin babies! Its never their fault, its always someone else!! Like Bartman!! We will see how great of a move this is when the season is under way and the magical feeling of being free from lou is gone and Ryno is winning in Toronto!! I wonder what the complaints are gonna be next year!?

A big reason the Cubs didn't go with Ryno is because he is a Grade-A asshole. The guy is a miserable prick and just cuz he is a Cubs legend doesn't mean he deserves shit. The reason they went with Quade is because the players really want to play for him. No one wants to play for Sandberg, he is not a players manager at all. Minor leaguers even hate the guy. I will say was a helluva ball player though, but that is about it. The last thing the Cubs needed was a big name coach, ie, a Pinella or Baker. Too much of a distraction. Bring in a coach where no one expects much, less pressure to perform usually means greater success.
