The Phillies are trying to become the second team in as many seasons, along with last year's New York Yankees, to rally from down 1-0 to win a wild-card series.
Both teams confirmed their pitching plans on Thursday morning.
The Phillies are going with veteran Aaron Nola (7-12, 4.67 ERA) on regular rest instead of fellow right-hander Zack Wheeler on three days' rest after he threw 97 pitches in the regular-season finale on Sunday.
Nola is 5-4 in his postseason career with a 3.88 ERA in 11 starts, including wins against Atlanta in the NL Division Series in both 2022 and 2023.
The Braves are turning to left-handed reliever Ray Kerr (0-0, 1.47) as the opener. He pitched only 18 1/3 innings in the majors this season and will be making his postseason debut. Kerr allowed one hit in three scoreless innings against the Phillies on Sept. 13, striking out four and walking none.
