College World Series Thread...

Lets get a good discussion so we can win some money this weekend when the boys of summer invade Omaha. I don't know who has all gone to games before but I grew up going to them and its a great time.

Bracket 1: TCU takes on hot Oral Roberts - this will be a good game and Florida plays Virgina in this double elimination bracket play

Bracket 2: Wake Forrest (who is probably most everyone's favorite) draws Stanford and likely Quinn Matthews coming of his dominate 16k performance also LSU vs Tennessee in the night cap.

What are everyone's thoughts on these games?

Mathews threw 156 pitches....

Knee jerk reaction is to play a small bet on Oral Roberts at +2500 to win it all. Yeah yeah I know not likely to happen and you are right but maybe if they could some how advance to the finals (they are a super hot team and have beat far better teams than themselves to get here) I have some real equity to work with. Remember I said small.

But as it relates to the actual lines I kinda like (again leans only) the following:

Oral Roberts +135

Florida -120

Stanford +160 (if Matthews is pitching - which he should)

LSU -175

Thoughts?

Insane I know. And he will likely throw 156 more if he has the lead going for the complete game and advance in the bracket vs. the most explosive team in college baseball.

Brutal ending to that Stanford game.....kid thought he hit a dinger, lost the white baseball in the white advertising logo on the outfield fence.......barely makes it to second, probably shoulda been out.,...........then the next guy hits a sky high pop fly and the RF loses it. Kid who was on 2nd by accident scores.   Brutal.  

Buuuuuutttttttt that is college game vs the pros. Also the pros would have been like oh well lets see what am I eating and fucking tonight. The kids were heart broken. Truly destroyed. LOVE LOVE LOVE that emotion. Lots of excitement to come the next couple of weeks.

Also another reason I like the Oral Roberts +2500 bet is because I really don't expect them to win the whole thing. I am just hopeful they have a chance to be top 4 and really hope for top 2 and I can hedge like a mother. I believe bracket 2 is far harder than bracket 1.

First round:

TCU (May be the hottest team right now)

**Best play is probably the over as both teams offenses are firing on all cylinders.

Wake Forest (no trouble yet in the Tourney, Stanford is solid but cant put up the runs needed to beat wake, not even with their stud pitcher. Imo)

LSU

Virginia/Florida - I think this is a toss up.

Welcome! Over is definitely worth a look. Wake is a tough tough team no doubt. Just hoping they choke. Yep no doubt the Virginia/Florida game is a toss up as the line suggests. I like the SEC more than the ACC. LSU agreed.

It just takes one great outing by a pitcher to blow up the brackets too. Should be some great games!

Couldn't agree more. Also watch for the overrated pitchers. I remember when Mark Prior was leading the USC Trojans and his line was always -250 to -300. You can't lay that kind of line, especially in the College World Series and he came no where near the value of that line.

That is kinda why I like taking a stab at someone like Matthews. If he can replicate even close to his performance at the Super Regionals here at +160. Yes please.

 I agree with what you think liking under in Florida vs Virginia..  

Virginia and ORU are the only 2 schools in the top 10 in ERA and BA. May not mean a dam thing but they are balanced on paper. Virginia was the leading team in the country BA,  Wake in ERA, a sterling 2.80, in college that's really impressive. Going H to H with a good friend, Gator fan, I'm taking Wake, must win it all.

You will have a lot of fun.  You ever been to Omaha before?  Gambling is legal in Iowa (Council Bluffs, Iowa is across the river from Omaha) and those casinos (especially Harrah's and the Horseshoe) have sportsbooks but its illegal in Nebraska. Tons of good food and fun to be had though. Have a great time. I am truly truly jealous.

Gambling is now LEGAL in Nebraska.  But sports betting hasn't been setup yet

Ahhh didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I used to travel to CB all the time. Harrahs has an extra long craps table. For whatever reason I have gotten incredibly hot there. Got to go back some time. Maybe next years College World Series. BOL to all!

You bring up a fair point. But he is a college kid. They do it all the time. I would be more concerned if he did it every fifth day for months at a time. I might not replicate the same production but I think he has value. That is what I am looking for here. BOL!

Perfect! What part of Omaha you live? My buddy came to visit me in Phoenix last weekend and he is in Papillion. I definitely miss Omaha. Benson nights. Even the damn Zoo haha. We have a Pitch here by my house in the Arcadia area of Phoenix and that kinda reminds me of Omaha. This is the time of the year I miss it the most. Looking forward to your posts in this thread then when you can post some plays. Lets have a good CWS!
