Im telling you boys this does not look good for the Yankees. Nolan offering not only money but other things as well. The Yankees are a desperate team right now and have no choice but to put all of their eggs in Lees basket. If he does not land in NY they are in some serious trouble with the staff they will be rolling out there. Being a Sox fan i am loving seeing the Yankees playing the opposite roll for once. However if they land Lee and both him and C.C. are healthy heading into the playoffs im sorry they will not be beat for a couple of years. Every year we see these low scoring games because pitching DOMINATES the playoffs. My team will be throwing out Beckett, Lackey, Dice-K in a 7 game series . Lester is the man and i have complete faith in him in the playoffs but the rest of them are dog shit. My man Clay is yet to be tested come September.

Here's a question...When was the last time the Yankees didn't get what they wanted on the market?

Its nice in both $100 football leagues sitting the 1st round out on a bye as the #1 and #2 seed thats for sure.

2 reasons I expect Lee to pitch for the Rangers:

1. The attitude and conduct in which he referred to the team as "we" in the post game interview after the final game. Lee knew he was a big reason in why Texas was in the World Series, and his behavior suggested 'they" have unfinished business there...him included.

2. The way his wife was treated by the Yankee fans at The Stadium.

Why would us Rangers fans be mad at you? You give everybody constant BB updates from ALLOVER, Yankee fan bias, "Great game" gossip, and entertaining observations for ALL OF MLB. Besides we all know Cliff Lee is damaged goods, wants a guaranteed 7 yr max deal, and has shown he's beatable in a WS. Plus he is proven to be a potential headcase



Yankees sign him, he is all YOURS and good luck with all that!! No way in the world does he live up to the "hype"



I REALLY REALLY HOPE RANGERS DO NOT RESIGN LEE.

Sparky,   A lot of people in Tx. are thinking this deal and the money have gone beyond what we need to pay. There are other ways to use that money and he is only one player. We have to feed Hamilton, Andrus, and Feliz in the next 3 years and we have a lot on the farm so going nuts on a bidding war that is somewhat chancey doesn't sit well with me. Lee is a gamble that we don't have to play. Love to have him but...?

Hopefully McDaniels and Ryan have a plan B that makes us better without doing a Chan Ho or a Alex Rodriguez type contract that just sets a team back because some billionaire wants to show he can throw a 12 pound dick on the table just to top New Yorks 8 pounder.

If you look back in threads this is EXACTLY what I said was going to happen.  Cliff Lee was going to keep saying nah it's to cold it New York, nah I can't go hunting in New York, nah there is no taxes in Texas, nah I like my teammates here... and the next thing you know the offer will be 7 years $210 million dollars and he will say... I guess you have a deal.

Just like Sabathia did

Valid point about him being just one player, however he is a starting pitcher. Lack of solid starting pitching has been a problem for the Rangers for...since forever. I don't doubt there is a # Texas won't go over, but I also don't expect Lee to sell out either. Because ya see as much fun as it would be to play with Jeter, and even though I personally would love the opportunity to play the game I love for $$ in the Big Apple, my wife wasn't publicly abused by the same people who will be supporting me. Like I said though, I don't have Cliff Lee pegged as a sell out. It may come down to the fact that the Yankees are willing to throw out a # that is impossible to turn down because of its sheer ground breaking size. Then again, we may be talking about more money than could ever be realistically spent anyway, so as long as Texas doesn't insult him they will get their man.

Slingin,   Good points and I think he may stay but I'm saying there is a point where Tx, needs to stop and say no more and go on with a different plan. Lee is great and hate to see him teamed with his good friend Sabbathia in NY.

Tx. may need to try other ways to get better and I believe there are opportunities out there.

I think Lee knows where he's going. He's just hoping for 1 last push to get possibly 2 more million.

Personally...I think the only reason he's holding out like this is because he's already chosen to take the Yankees' offer and is just waiting it out for them to up the offer a bit more. I really can't see this being that hard of a decision.

Either he wants to stay in Texas, near his home and without tax...or he wants to take the bigger contract, play with CC whose wives are great friends, and be a Yankee.

Just give me a damn decision. I want to move on and get Greinke. And wrap Hammy, CJ, and Andrus. Then watch New York dominate for 2 years and and laugh when they miss the playoffs in 2013-2015.

TExas should walk away from this mess.It will only be a brutal deal in 4 years or so and then what all that cash tied up into aa aging pitcher? No thanks. Move on Rangers as you will need taht cash for other players.

Lee wants to go to the Yankees, and his wife wants him to stay close to home with the Rangers.  After the way Lee's wife was treated, I think she is going to win the argument.

It's not going out on a limb to say he wants to stay in Texas. I think it is safe to assume that if this were all about money he would be a Yankee now...Maybe Texas is thinking along the same lines as Pec. They might have a 5 year offer for 80-100 mil, but realistically it's a 3 year 50 mil contract. The Rangers want to add the quality starter, but don't want to mortgage the future on a guy who is 30+ and could look like a poor investment if he wears out or under performs before the agreement is up.  Lee might be having to weigh that kind of a financial scenario against a New York guarantee of 4 years and 90 mil...If he takes less and sticks with the Rangers then he has to be sure to be an elite pitcher for the next 5 years or he will lose out on big $'s, where as if he goes bust in NY over the next couple seasons then he can just add himself to the list of players who have not lived up to the hype, but still suckered Yankees payroll.

I disagree. The Yankees are pressured right now. The longer Lee holds out...the bigger the contract may go. Think about it. You don't see the Yankees lowering their offer the longer Lee waits...right?

Totally agree Sparky. He is trying to get every cent possible and it sounds as of this morning, that Rangers are still all in, that they are going to make a special "Cliff Lee" budget addendum, something out current Congress is infamous for.I really think Cliff knows his back hurts bad and it will be his PHYSICAL excuse when he doesn't live up to the contract he's about to receive. Why is he waiting then?

THIS WILL BE HIS LAST CONTRACT!!

   BIG MISTAKE!! After Young trade mumblings, I feel Rangers are treading on thin ICE!
