Sure they look great on paper. They're 12.5 games ahead of Boston. They play .617 ball at home. Hughes is 8-3, 3.74 at home, compared to 3-7, 5.31 away. His last 8 starts at home have been quality starts. The Yanks put up 5.34 runs per game at home and have won 7 of their last 10.
Boston comes in with this whole media storm about the players wanting Valentine out. They barely avoided a sweep in Baltimore. They've lost 6 of their last 10. Morales' last start against the Yankees lasted 3 1/3 and saw him allow 6 ER on 8 base runners, 4 HR's!!!!! He's had a WHIP of 1 or higher in his last 6 appearances.
The stats are completely one-sided here. The Yanks are obviously the play, aren't they?
Not so fast. As we always say, the books don't hand out free money. First, ask yourself why the Yankees are only a -135 favorite, when this game has -160 written all over it. Then, ask yourself why 78% of the betting public is on the Yankees and the line hasn't moved?

To answer your question about the line not moving...There could be a ton of money pouring in on BOS despite 78% of bettors backing the Yanks to provide equal action. No doubt you are getting value here with the Yanks @ -125 and sometimes its just that plain and simple. Plus you know these are one of the most heated rivalries in all of sports. If BOS can win this series it can be a pivotal moment in their season. BOL

Right, that's my point about the line not moving. You most likely have a lot of sharp action coming in on Boston, because the line always moves with the money coming in.

As Kjmontalv states- sometimes the line is just the line- simple as that. Don't buy into "traps" by vegas.
One team will win.
One will lose and nobody can predict the result 100%.
These two teams play each other tough.
line seems just about right.
Of course nobody can predict the result. I'd love to be able to tell you I know who is going to win, but I'm a degenerate just like the next guy. It's gambling. However, that being said, I don't believe the line is ever "just a line." There's always a reason behind a line. Vegas is never going to throw out a number without thoroughly thinking it through. the only time you're going to find soft numbers is college football because there are so many games. Not in professional sports.

I don't like playing totals without knowing the plate ump. I'll take a look at the total, and the team totals later on when MLB releases the crew information.

not at home Hughes isn't garbage. Look at the numbers. On the road he's miserable. At Yankee stadium he's been excellent
he is vulnerable to the long ball tho, especially at home. I am backing the Yankees tonight, but Hughes doesn't always give me the comfort feeling if you know what i mean

Yeah you're not kidding!!! 27 Home Runs allowed, 17 at home! He gives up a ton!!!! I do understand you not feeling comfortable. Personally I'm playing the Sox, although I'd much rather have someone like Ortiz in the lineup against a fly ball pitcher like Hughes. Good luck

Simple. Phil Hughes blows. I'm a huge Yankee fan and I hate hearing his name. I take the Yanks a good amount of the time, but it's an over bet for me when Hughes is on the hill. Hoping the Yankees can outhit a team that shells him. Just my 2 cents. GL

OK guys, then I ask you: How much better is Franklin Morales than Aaron Cook? About a month ago Phil Hughes was throwing at home against Aaron Cook and the Yanks opened -165. Is Morales a full 30 cents better than Cook? That's a huge number! I don't think Morales is THAT much better than Cook.
And just to let you know, everyone that is so anti-Hughes, he threw 7 innings that game against the Sox and allowed only 6 base runners, 5 hits and a walk. He has been absolutely lights out at home the last 2 months. You can't tell me Morales is worth the Yanks opening 30 cents lower tonight than they were a month ago against Cook. I'd venture to say the Sox are in a worse situation now than they were then, with the only difference being they have a slightly better pitcher going tonight than they did a month ago.

Also, Cano and Tex are questionable. That means they will have backup 1st baseman, 2nd baseman, and 3rd baseman tonight if they miss the game. I know they are a deep team with lots of bats but this still concerns me as I'm on the over.

Dude, go over the numbers from his last 8 home starts. He's been dominant. On the road he's a joke, but at the stadium you guys have absolutely nothing to complain about
