As usual Key good stuff. I agree with you with one thing I would like to add. I primarily watch Spring for the prospects but occasionally toward the end of spring training some useful observations can help at the beginning of the season. For instance in 2012 I watched Lincecum's last start and could see that something was wrong. Velocity was still down and he really seemed to be fighting himself. That was the start of his troubles and I was not caught off guard by his struggles

So in spring training you bet while games? Your first day plays, I assume they're for 1 unit right? Thanks looking to follow someone.

Quone Yes as they do not offer first 5 in ST so its for the whole games and to be honest the first week i play very small 20 Bucks etc until is see some consistency and poss a few parlays for 10 bucks just to see where everything is going as we have a very lone season ahead of ourselves so no need to jump in head first with 1 unit plays

Page 22 lets see how the past shows itself

Been going thru old ST seasons
How many teams have the longest win/loss streaks in first ST games in past years from 2010

Rockies have won their first ST game in each of the last 4 years
Marlins have also matched Colorado with 4 first game wins

Stevo what's your thoughts on the Braves SP? I feel that they are definitely top 10 and closer to top 5 rotations overall especially if Beachy is healthy and pitches to his ability.

I think there's only one question here, and that's Cole Hamels health. Word in Philly is his injury could be worse than expected and Burnett was insurance. If he's healthy, this team definitely goes over the .500 mark easy.

    My Response
They may go over 500 but not enough to get to 79 game wins

IMO also with Burnett i do not see much if last year has anything to do with it with his records from 2013

Burnett 26 starts 51 RA first 5 inn (8W/ 12L ,6P) And Phil Run support is non existent as was Pirates
    ________________________________________________
After Lee and Hamel's you have nothing and their 2013 records speak for themselves

    Hamels 32 starts 67 Runs allowed in first 5 inn (13W /13L/ 6P) First 5
    ________________________________________________
    Lee 30 Starts 46 RA in first 5 inn (15W /8L /7P )
    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
and i'm a Philly Guy from the 50"s days of the WIZ kids
Robin Roberts, Curt Konstany, del Ennis Etc and they beat the Dodgers to go to the World series and NYY beat them in 4 games. So don't be telling me i'm a hater as i live this team but i also must be honest to myself

Stayed up late last night and did every rotation starter for every team in both leagues just so i would have at hand what i may expect from him if 2013 has any backup to it
So if any body needs a particular starter info i should have it but primarily the top 5 on each team similar to Braves starters listed above and now you have the phillies

Kershaw is the top Starter IMO of all Starters and deserves everything he gets from Dodgers through 5 Inn

    2013 record  35 RA in 33  games in F5
    2012 record  41 RA in 29 games in  F5
    2011 record 30 RA in 32 games in F5
    2010 record 54 RA in 32 games in F5

I doubt you can find any body close to him in last 3 years

Even Halladay could not match him in 2012 53 Runs in 24 Starts
and even in year 2011 he allowed 45 runs in F 5 in 32 games

Did you notice that at runs per start Price and Darvish come in 2 and 3 despite the fact they are A.L. pitchers that face the DH and Darvish is further burdened by a home park that is very hitter friendly? The world is very happy to bow down and call Kershaw the very best around, but some of my numbers make Darvish every bit as good and Price not far behind those two. Of course that is dependent on things like home field and the DH. As you have said stevo, sometimes you have to look beyond the apparent.

play o/u if  they let you at or near the start of S/T --- then bet big name starters over and rookies, unknown vets, etc. under ----- from betting Spring Training Baseball----covers expert's article 2005(?). This has served me well in pools etc. but too afraid to bet more than a sawbuck or even less on the really early games---split squads and the like, but every very seldom once in a while one can catch a split squad playing a complete team, which is worth a small investment.

You could look it up, as they say

Split squad games are never avail to wager here in Vegas and i doubt anywhere else and same for totals i believe but i never do totals so i could be wrong

Starters are just in at beginning of ST for just 2 inn so i don't see using that approach  to any edge

I rarely see a rookie starter vs a veteran starter matched up against each other at start of game in ST Most of the time its hard to know who's starting until they post starters that day

Hey Stevo! I see you have both eyes so far on the NL East. Don't forget Philly signed Cuban defector Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez late last season.

Some previews have him slotted at the backend of the rotation depending how he does in ST. I have read that he's been pretty pedestrian so far and may be headed to AAA to start the season. He may be a fade as Cubans seem to be a growing fad as of late, imo. We could get some pretty chalky lines on him early.

Also, if one is to look at teams with solid prospects, look no further than Pittsburgh and Houston.

The Pirates have 7 prospects in the Top 100; Polanco (13), Glasnow (20), Taillon (27), Meadows (35), Kingham (73), Hanson (74), Bell (99), and many of these guys are in the high minors.

The benefits of sucking badly over the past few seasons is the amount of top picks you can load up on and the Astros have done just that. As like the Pirates they have 7 prospects in the Top 100; Correa (4), Appel (11), Springer (19), Foltynewicz (70), Singleton (78), DeShields (80), and Velazquez (82).

The Cubs (hitters galore; Baez, Bryant, Soler and Almora all in top 30), Twins and Red Sox also have very good farm systems.
