Apparently the Fed is thinking of using some of that $700 billion to infuse cash directly into banks in exchange for equity stakes in those banks. As usual there are not a lot of details, but I wonder if that means they wind up diluting common shares or will the gov't will take preferred shares or maybe some other form of equity.
If they can set up an open exchange for the CDS' at little to no cost and then use the money to actually directly infuse cash into the banks in return for equity in the banks this could actually turn out to be a somewhat decent plan after all for the system and taxpayers.
Hmmmm

Nope..my view on DRYS hasnt, the price sure has and Ive taken a major beating on the stock.
I guess they want to price the stock at 1 times 2008 earnings and 2 times 2009, I dont get it personally.
You get the spin with the shares, hold on for a year and I have to think it is a double to triple from these levels.
Vermeer, I think the reason for not opening the markets is it would open the books of the companies and show how bad the leverage is. I think it is a GREAT idea and anything that adds liquidity has to be good for the market.
Piles,

Our automotive industry is terrible 2009 coming and we dont even have 1 flying car !!! no but really what have they done to make a new alt fuel car/ electric car.
can you imagine if we all had alternate fuel cars. our economy would boom. and we can tell the oil producers what we really think of them. gm and f both did nothing positive for the last 20 years. build bigger gas hogs.
GM shares are worth less than they were in 1929 !!!!

Well, what looked decent early on is starting to turn sour again. I don't recall so many days in a row that the Dow has dropped. Looks like the Fed won't be buying those assets until the end of the month. So much for having to act quickly, and I think the market is reflecting that.
BOL on your stocks. Going to need it for the short term.

By the way, I work in a Law Office that does mostly Real Estate. While banks up here are safe, the shit is slowly starting to hit the fan here as well. Toronto Dominion raised their mortgage lending rates, and the others will follow suit. While indicators are still good up here (housing starts are still slightly up) I can feel next year we could be in for some rocky times.
