Steve coburn interview

The interview this morning with this crybaby was even worse then the one right after the race. He compared it to playing basketball against a kid in a wheelchair. The triple crown isnt set up for this country bumkin to win it the way he wants to that is why its so great and so rare to see. Even if this moron had his way he still wouldnt of won the triple crown because medal count beat him. A sign of a mans character is not when he wins and things are goin well but how he handles adversity and losing. This was a disgrace for all of CC's connections

I agree---I am one of the few that don't want to see it done that often---but it has been a little long even for me.  I am just saying running fresh horses (against a horse that ran the other two races) on the longest leg certainly can seem unsporting.

Who knows if CC would have won if he had skipped Preakness.  I doubt it.  But would have been interesting.

Good grief---he should have kept his cool---but when you have put your all into something and come oh so close...hard not to be emotional.  Most people at least think he has a point.  Maybe he should have just said...what...nice try?  People automatically try to look for reasons they fail  And when the reasons are overly obvious it is easy to ticked off about it.  But by all accounts the guys is normally a decent guy.  I sorta have to give him a pass on this.  I know people in sports that have lost much lesser events that threw way worse tantrums than he did.

I agree with you Raiders and would of wrote it off as emotions after the tough loss but he made it worse this morning. If he would of came out and said I apologize it was the heat of the moment alot of peoe wouldof respected that. But instead he called the other connections "cheaters". For what? Entering the Belmont and winning the race. Seriously this guy thinks he was owed the triple crown because of Cc's story... As much as i wanted to see it happen after listening to him i am really glad it didnt.

I wll defer to you on that.   Working so didn't see the interview this morning.  Media shouldn't even interview him again---they like the ratings.  Not like they were hoping he was gonna apologize.

Yes---I don't like him saying cheaters or cowards at all.  Those were the wrong words.  But understand him being upset.

I agree with him I don't believe it's fair. However Idk about the " cowards way out" let's be honest this is a business and the Belmont stakes purse is nothing to sneeze at. The connections of tonalist were smart on bypassing the other legs and and entering the horse where they thought would win. And they were right. I also believe u shouldn't have to enter the each leg to move on to the next, but I believe there should be a point system just like the derby. That would possibly force the hand of most trainers/owners to enter all 3. Just my opinion. 

I think Coburn was stupid enough and self-absorbed enough to actually believe his press clippings. America's horse ? Maybe, for a few weeks. We've heard that before.  No matter what, he can't fairly tag other owners as cowards and cheaters simply because they dared to challenge him in his quest for fame and fortune. He is the poster boy for what it means to be a sore loser. He knew the rules. He was pointing to the Triple Crown. Fine. Other fine owners and trainers may have been pointing to the Belmont and its $1.5M purse with horses that developed late or who were better suited to the distance. He thinks they can't run because it gets in the way of his winning the Triple Crown ? Pitifully self-absorbed. Neither the horse nor the owner deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the all-time greats.

He is 100% correct. Pretty much the same as not having to play a playoff game and get a spot in the Super Bowl. Same difference.

No its not, its a completely different sport, you dont understand how it works in horse racing.  Like someone else said, what if trainers want to aim their horse specifically for the Belmont's huge purse, because their horse has been bred to go the distance, you cant fault the trainer for that, its not cheating, and its not cowardly, if Chrome doesnt win the Preakness, the Belmont is just an individual race.  He wasnt good enough to win, stop making excuses

I didnt say it was cheating. My analogy is spot on and if you dont think so it doesnt surprise me. Dont figure most people on this site for much intellect anyway.

 .  You know nothing about handicapping in general let alone Horseracing   You realize that most Belmont locals (iwas at the franklin square OTB  2 miles away)didn't even have Crome in our exotics .Did you know hall of famer Jerry Bailey said Crome wouldn't win and  Rich migliore? Did you hear the announcer on the broadcast .the ones who picked Crome all said I don't want to pick against him and be wrong just in case he wins .I know it would take insight TRAIN but what does that tell you   .

I'm talking about winning the triple crown people. Thats why the nfl analogy. Of course each race has its own reward and the way its set up its llegit to pick and choose when you race (if you qualify).
