I loved the interview.  So rare you get raw emotion like that.  Whether I agree or disagree with what he said doesn't matter ( I was on the wicked strong square train), i just thought it was entertaining as hell.

I've seen 8 yr olds take losing better than this guy. What a joke...learn to lose as good as you win. It's a lesson he should have learned when he was a kid.

As a horse bettor for 19 years I agree with the owner 120%. These horses should not be allowed to run the Bel if they don't run the first two legs. He is spot on that we probably won't see a Triple Crown in even my lifetime and I am only 38 with this format.
I applaud this man who wears his heart on his sleeve and say what he feels.
His wife was trying to save him from looking bad to sensitive folks, but he said his peace and will die knowing he let his thoughts public at the BEST possible time. The horse racing community needs to wake up.
I was on #10 to show so I don't care monetarily but I applaud this man and agree with his views 110%.

That horse wasn't good enough to win a Triple Crown and it showed today. He was just an above average horse running against a weak field. It was a down year for colts

It's parimutuel betting.  They get the same cut no matter what horse wins.

I could also make the argument that it also is unfair to have rested horses run the longest leg of the Triple Crown.  I have made this point in other times when this comes up.  Maybe if you beat all the horses in the field that also ran the other two races but lose only to rested horse as California Chrome did, then maybe it should still count as a Triple Crown.

It is easy for us to say that because it sounds nice. But I imagine very hard to do right after you have lost the most important race of your lifetime and they ask you right away how you feel. Hard to feel too gracious if you are emotional and competitive. People want us all to be 'sportsman' and 'lose graciously' because it sounds good. Try investing emotionally that much and/or financially that much and I bet it is hard to do---We cannot relate to it, so maybe we should cut him some slack. Ultr-competitive people don't believe all shoudl get a ribbon, etc.

What would the prestige be in the Triple Crown if he didnt beat the best 3 year olds in the country, on the toughest tracks in the country, in a short amount of time?  Thats what makes it a super accomplishment, you have to be a super horse to pull it off, they arent going to amend the rules to make it easier for above average horses to be put in the same breath as Secretariat and Seattle Slew
