And the filly got a 107.

Lots of ways to read this I suppose. The pace wasn't fast by any means and Chrome went by them like they were tied to a tree.

It was pretty much a blink of an eye for him to open up 5 lengths, so he bested the field by 7 lengths quite quickly. So, his speed rating for that 1/8 of a mile is likely off the chart.

Certainly wasn't his best race but he beat 18 other horses.

With some of the decent horses that will be going to the Preakness, I'm guessing his odds will be around 4/5.

Please, the pace was slow and he was geared down. Please take my Preakness action on him ? Untapable is not running, so 1/5 and he wins for fun.

“He’s fine,” reported the newest oldest trainer (77) to win a Kentucky Derby, Art Sherman, to an early bird gathering of media types Sunday at the barn. “He left just a handful of grain in his tub last night, but that’s all. His appetite was good. He got a little tired, but not too bad. Victor (jockey Victor Espinoza) told me yesterday that he did get a bit tired on him at the end; that he eased  him a bit that last 70 yards. He said he didn’t ask him for too much thinking about saving something for the next one, for the Preakness.”

    another quote from Sherman

“To be honest, I’m not real comfortable with running him back in two weeks, but I know that’s what we’re bound to do. I don’t normally run any kind of horse back in two weeks, not even lowly claimers. I’m more the kind of guy who likes to wait seven or eight weeks between races. These horses run hard and they need time to recover.”

Who cares ! THERE WAS NO PACE ! He dominated 19 other horses and there are no (except Untapable) other horses that should scare the connections.

@randy_moss_TV: Interesting Derby pacefig note. Normally when pace slower than norm, finish is faster than norm. Yesterday pace subpar and so was finish.

Yes, but a good handicapper knows when he was wrong and adjusts. I cashed a large Double tickets with CC and some win bets as well. I called it right on, just like Untapable. Stalk and Pounce

Victor Espinosa down played his own role in the race. However, his tactics were masterful. He waited for just the right second to pass the first tier, which, then, quickly fell apart.

It was at this time when the mid-packers started to break down allowing Commanding Curve and Wicked to move up.

I think there are valid points both ways.

If I am a CC fan, I don't love the comments from Sherman today (basically saying they are only going to the Preakness because they have to...he said CC was tired and two week turnaround is not something he would ever do, even for 10k claimers).

But he didn't run his best race and still beat 18 other horses.

Too many times in the last few years, Ive seen Derby winners fail to fire, and I'm a little nervous about it happening again.

CHROME is a beast!  BUT will not win the Preakness unfortuneatly.  That horse is spent.   Everyone loves the pagentry of a Triple Crown winner, the touching story of the owner and the troubled past of the trainer.  I'm all about the Benjamins, and Chrome should skip this race. IF the trainer says the horse is tired,  uh hello!  THE HORSE IS TIRED!!

Um there was no "large" double tickets so.....

I hit the pick 4 and that was a pretty sorry pay out considering the way it started

Enough is Enough. Did he have a perfect trip ? YES Was the pace very slow ? YES. Did most of the other runners have troubled trips ? YES. Is he Seattle Slew ? NO !

He can only run against the horses that show up and I don't care about Beyer numbers because please tell me who can beat him ? (except Untapable), who will not be in the Preakness. Victor was not asking him for anything down the stretch. Where is the love that ORB got last year ? (false race on a sloppy track where the pace collapsed). Other then an injury or some major mishap in the race, he is going to win the Triple Crown. (again with no Untapable in the Belmont).

Roused if we lived near each other and i knew you I would give you 20-1 on the Triple Crown and 5-1 on the Preakness.

I'm that sure CC won't win the Preakness, his own trainer the human that knows him best has doubts and that's enough for me not to back this horse at what I'm sure will be less the even money.
