Charity aside, the poker players want the money and can't stop themselves from being left out of the most prestigious buy-in tournament of all-time, proving once again, they are the kings of gambling degenerates.
Negraneau can handle this buy-in given his Pokerstars sponsorship, and possibly Dwan and Ivey can as well but most other poker players certainly cannot. I know for certain Antonious has several million tied up in the Full Tilt lawsuit that will likely never be paid. Surprise, he's playing. What's another million??? They can't stop themselves pursuing from the biggest cash prize in poker history with a gargantuan piece of their bankroll if they are not selling pieces or being staked for large portions (first prize will be several hundred thousand more than Jaime Gold's $12 million dollar prize).
Entering a tournament you literally could be knocked out of in minutes (like any other $1 + $.10 Sit n' Go) for $1 million dollars is pure lunacy and is a mammoth step towards going busto or owing a hell of a lot of money to a backer.
Good luck guys...

$111,111.00 from each player or from the 48,000,000 purse?
The same situations arise in a $1,000 buy in. Some people are risking everything they have and are taking a huge gamble ... others have plenty of money and it doesn't matter if they win or lose.

Lots of dead money there but lots of top pro money as well...
And Andy Beal (#11 on the list) is a billionaire who will have absolutely no problem bluffing all-in with 7/2 offsuit. Even Ivey will lay down his pocket Kings to those kinds of shoves with an entry fee this big.

Yes.
To the second paragraph, yes that is true. But in my opinion, even a $50 million dollar bankroll (which Ivey is rumored to have only through Full Tilt income) might not justify the buy-in here.
And MANY other players on this list are millionaires but just barely and it could be 30/40% of their entire bankroll, unless they are being backed but that would still be paid back in some portion, if not all of it.
Jean Robert Bellande is 100% busto and living off backers' money as I type and I have NO IDEA who in the world would be crazy enough to spot him $1 million to make a run at this.

He's trying to sell pieces of himself to get in. I don't think he'll get there though. He's allegedly $400K short (which gives you an idea of bankrolls). If Hellmuth needs to sell pieces of himself, his bankroll can't be that robust and he is the most recognized player in the world next to Ivey, Doyle and Negraneau.
Anyhow, he is notoriously fiscally conservative for a poker player, even at the table.

wasnt aware poker players made their bankrolls public...how do you know who can afford what? im sure there is more than one player who has "overextended" himself for this, but if you think PH isnt rolled for this you are wrong. hes selling pieces to reduce variance. half the field will probably be billionaire whales who could give 2 shits about a milly. most of the pros have sold large pieces in this and im sure Pstars is footing a decent chunk of negreanu's bill. DN also sold 2% to the public for "fun". as for JRB i am sure it was more like 100 people putting up 10k than 1 idiot putting up a million. and you dont pay backers back as you stated, they are investing in the player's skill

Poker players don't make their bankrolls public. I was guessing based on what I know about the pro poker community. Today's million dollar bankroll is tomorrow's $0 dollar bankroll.
In general, it is well known inside the poker community, outside of top pros who are sponsored, that many players do not have substantial bankrolls of the size that would be necessary to enter a $1 million dollar tournament (what was once one of the top prizes on the WPT tour). In my opinion, even a $10 million dollar bankroll isn't enough to drop $1 million on a tournament.
These are bankrolls of high variance and the chatter on 2+2 is that dropping $1 million on a tournament certainly isn't healthy bankroll management for some of the players on that list (of which there are many), leading them to eventual busto status where they would salivate over the million they dropped on a single tournament.
Yes, there are billionaires like Liberte who wouldn't sneeze at losing a million but many others simply are not taking into consideration what it takes to earn a solid million at the table given the high variance of high stakes games.
By the way, Bellande is most certainly NOT getting 100 people to sponsor his terrible poker playing ass with 10K each. That I can assure you.

Will this be televised? I used to watch all of the high stakes poker seasons back in the day but even that got old after a while. This is something I could definitely watch.

Scal, to be honest, no jabs intended, I cant stand you on the forums unless you are discussing poker. You post some interesting stories, also your insight is informative.
Obviously playing in 1million $ tournaments with a bankroll of 10million will leave you broke, but isnt this a one time thing, OR once a year if it becomes an official event?
I dont think it is bankroll suicide to have 10million bankroll, play ONE 1mill buyin, and then use bankroll management with the 9million. Smart? Hell no, but even playing 10% of your buyin in one event shouldnt kill you.
Bobby Belande I would rather stake my sister into the MAIN EVENT with the 10k.

Scal, just for discussion, [as I dont think there are odds for this tourney on any websites, am i wrong?]....
Who are some players you would be willing to back in a hypothetical world?
I really think like most tournaments [even more-so in a tournament with a 1mm buyin], the hyper aggressive players are going to try and most likely succeed at accumulating chips.
Even Phil Helmuth said he would rather back a hyper aggressive player over a mouse any day of the week. Just far better chance to win a tournament.
I dont know. I feel like the Dwan's/Elky's[Bertrand Grospellier] are just built for a tournament like this. where as someone like Mike Matusow [super tight] would be shitting bricks and folding aces.
Now I get it, theres not many super tight players in this tournament and for good reason [1 MM BUYIN!] but still, a super aggressive player is going to win this thing.
