Wow, the “I know you are, but what am I” comeback. What a backbreaker.
Dude, bring all the hate, negativity and emoticons you want if it makes you feel smart somehow.
We get it. You hate Detroit, and the ads didn't change your mind. They haven't hurt Chrysler's sales, either. But you haven't addressed the fact that sales are up significantly in spite of an ad campaign you say is ineffective and ridiculous. That's a nice increase they realized. Plus they paid off the government loan in the second quarter.
I'm defending the ads, not the city. And a comeback story is great storytelling....and as I said before...America loves a comeback story.

Here you go SS. A thread about the J-Lo commercial in NY. Feel free to express your dislike for NY in this thread. Have fun!
Again: I am no fan of New York City. I have a friend that is living there now and he says that everyone is an asshole to everyone there. However Detroit is easily the biggest shithole in the country and NYC, statistically, isn’t even close.

So go spread your dislike of N.Y. in that thread. Or start one about Florence, Watts, and other sections of L.A. that have similar shitty statistics about quality of life. I just don't see threads like those popping up.
Like I said, I'm curious to know why you posted this thread about Detroit right now. The commercials have been running since last years Super Bowl. Why not post this back then?

Why would laughing at the biggest shithole in the country make me feel smart?Perhaps laughing at things makes you feel smart, but it doesn’t do anything for the rest of us.
As for the ads you claim are so successful: the rooster crows and the sun comes up.It doesn’t mean he caused it.
As for your claim that they paid off the government loan:
I hate to burst your bubble of delusion, but Detroit is not making a comeback. It would take an act of god for that city to become a good place to live.

For the third time: All cities have problems, but Detroit is easily the biggest shithole in the country. No other major US city is even close.
I saw the “luxury and efficiency only comes from one place….Detroit” commercial for the first time a few days ago.

Beats me. But you haven't brought anything else to a thread you created devoted exclusively to laughing at Detroit. You have shot down any attempt to inject even a glimmer of hope or optimism into that city's hard luck story.
I have no delusions or illusions about Motor City. I did like the ads, though.

What else is needed? All the stats say Detroit is the biggest shithole in the country.Or were those stats falsified by people that are jealous of the Lions and Tigers?
I understand that you are bitter about living in the worst city in the United States, but at some point you are either going to have to move or get over it.

Your stats represent 20% of what I would call Metro Detroit. You formulated your opinion on four days spent in some part of the city you can't even be specific about where. You gain your support from a Canadian who says he lives next to the city, when in fact he really resides in a completely different country and wasn't even specific about wether or not he had even been there recently.
Like I said, I wouldn't base my judgement of Los Angeles if I had a bad experience in Watts or some stats on Florence. It would be like showing the L.A. riots to an alien and then saying this is what Los Angeles is like. You're entitled to your opinion and that's what it is.
You do have good stats on the 700,000 people that represent the actualy City of Detroit. But those stats don't represent the 3.8 million people that comprise what I, and many people who live there, would consider Metro Detroit.
You're always going to have people defending where they live or grew up if they like that place. I don't live in Metro Detroit anymore but I love going back and I have friends and family that still live there. I hope to move back to Michigan one day. I just find the timing of this thread interesting. Like I said before, those commercials(maybe not the one you watched) have been on since last years Super Bowl. But I wasn't seeing these type of threads on Covers when the original commercials were coming out. It was only when the Tigers made the playoffs and the Lions started 5-0 did I start seeing a few threads bashing Detroit start up. Maybe I'm wrong.
I guess in a way it's kind of like having a dumb kid. It's ok for me to joke about the kid being dumb because he is my kid. But if someone else jokes about my kid, were going to have issues. I guess that's the best way I can describe it. The City of Detroit is my dumb kid.

Dude--You are the one who is delusional. I don't live anywhere near Detroit. Never did. I moved out of a Big Shitty a long time ago. I just liked the ad that ran in the Super Bowl that told story it told about a city (and an industry) trying to recover.
We get it. Detroit sucks.. You hate everything about the place. And you won't stop kicking them while they're down. Big freaking deal.
No love for Detroit from Straight Shooter.

U can compare Metro all you want but when people think about big cities they think about downtowns and the core of the city. Couple years ago I went to a concert at the State Theatre .... for those who don't know Detroit the State Theatre is directly across the street from Comerica. When lining up for the concert they line up up around the block circling behind the theatre ..... it was fucking sketch back there. There were abandoned buildings with broken windows, you could see people were squatting in them because you could see the candle lights flickering. This is one block off the so called nicest part of the city.

Also one time my wife got lost in Detroit. She stopped to ask a cop for directions and after giving her directions the cop told her not to stop at any red lights unless there was traffic coming.

Again: All major cities would have better stats if you included all the surrounding suburbs. That’s no defense for half the children in Detroit living below the poverty line or half the adults in Detroit being functionally illiterate. Not to mention being the most dangerous city in the country.

Wow.The Lions lose one game and all of sudden you’re embarrassed to say you live in Detroit.
I can’t blame you though. Not many people would admit on an online message board that they live in the worst city in the country.
Of course with about half the city below the poverty line not many people have computers in Detroit.
And even if they did about half the adults in the city are illiterate so they couldn’t use them anyway.

Poor woman. One time in Vegas my buddy had a chain snatched right off his neck one block off of Freemont Street. We could see the lights and hear the noise from it on a Saturday night. Cops basically said kiss that thing good bye. But you don't find me shitting on Vegas.

“Stop making fun of my city.Make fun of someone else’s city instead.”
If you are going to try and defend the worst city in the country you better be prepared to have some pretty ugly stats thrown your way.If you can’t handle that then it might be better to refrain from trying to defend it.

I always make a point to compliment the local people on the positive things about their city/country when I visit. Tends to help when your life might depend on it. Just me though.
That commercial is pretty ridiculous. I would guess a lot of Detroit residents that have seen it might feel as though they're treated like ignorant children.

I'm handling the stats just fine. I'm not disagreeing with them. I'm disagreeing with your exagerations that this place is as bad as you make it out to seem. Plenty of shitty areas all over this country. Plenty of good areas in the Detroit area as well. I just think it's funny that all of these threads start when Detroit starts to get national attention due to their sports teams doing well. Everyone has their own personal favorite spots to live in whether it be a city or a rural area. Like I said I drove thru Montana once and I would take Detroit over Montana any day of the week. Just my preference, but I actually like having interesting things going on where I live at.

If it boosts your fragile little ego, I will give you this round, Detroit is the worst city in America. Boohoohoo. Your 4 days in Detroit completely trump my 18 years of living there. Your stats, from where ever you got them from since you didn't reference them, completely top me saying that they represent a whopping 18% of the Metro Detroit area. I guess those 3.1 million people that don't actually live within the city limits but live within a 45 minute drive of it, are irrelavent. If that boosts your fragile little ego and makes you feel like winnere then here you can have it. Congrats, I don't know what you have won, but you win.
Because if that is a 3rd world country then this planet isn't doing to bad. I have never been to Africa, Iraq, or Bengladesh but I can't imagine the bad parts are on the level of Detroit.

Oh no, you’re right. The most dangerous city in the country where half the people live below the poverty line and half the adults are illiterate sounds like heaven on earth.

Sorry, kid, but you live in the biggest shithole in the country. The stats prove it. Bitching and moaning about it and begging me to stop talking about your rubble of a city isn’t going to change that.
Although you should be proud of yourself. You are among the 50% of adults in your city that are literate. Congratulations.
