So the two most vocal supporters of Detroit in this thread claim they don’t even live there. Funny how that works.
Even more of the haters of Detroit in this thread don't live there, never been there or visited for less than a week years ago. Ridiculous how that works.
You bash Detroit. And you bash people who respectfully have a different opinion than yours.....spinning and distorting their points. I love how you pass yourself off as some kind of superior thinker, when your narrow mindedness, mocking tone and general lack of graciousness suggest otherwise. Kind of reminds me of a prolific poster in the Politics forum who was banned for multiple SAFs. But I digress.
I'm sure you're a real Chamber of Commerce kind of guy for your town, though.

Of course we don’t live in Detroit. Why the hell would we want to live in the most dangerous city in the country where half the people live below the poverty line and half the adults are illiterate?

Leafs--I never actually defended Detroit. I'll let those who know it best defend it. I just liked the story the ad was trying to tell, and have stated so from the beginning. This has been twisted into something beyond recognition. Is Motor City the worst city in the U.S.? It's right up there. But a quick internet search lists St. Louis as the Most Dangerous City in the U.S.

being a guy who has lived outside of detroit for about 25 years, there have really been only a few reasons to go there.
1. casino
2. tigers game
3. wings game
4. lions game
thats it, now that most of us are late 20s we go to chicago for the weekend if we want to go out or vegas and dont bother wasting time in detroit. nothing has gotten better, i can go to milwaukee for christ sake and walk down one street and find more bars on a strip than chicago and thats just the bar scene. forget about the welfare, murders and everything else. its pathetic.
most of us in michigan that are doing well are just as sick of that same guy talking in those commercials as the rest of the world. its annoying and makes detroit look more pathetic. and the guys voice is like nails on a chalkboard to us.

you go out in in metro detroit, you go to royal oak. nobody of prominence lives in detroit...most of everyone lives in birmingham or royal oak which are charming cities.
i think people here defend detroit a little because they feel its a reflection on our state. i have been to many states, and all in all i have trouble finding a more beautiful state than michigan, i know for fact its by far prettier than other midwest states like ohio, illinois, kentucky, tennessee, pennsylvania, and new york
and is by far the carrier of the worst city in the nation. and flint is not worse than detroit, its an armpit, but certainly not worse than the D.

What's the fuckin point here beyond page one aside from a misplaced advertisement?
Trash the hell out of the city of Detroit and the people that live there? I'm confused.
It started out with people just laughing at the car commercials that show someone driving around the third world country that is Detroit then some people that live in (they claim they don't) Detroit got their feelings hurt and then started trying to convince us how the most dangerous and violent city in the country where half the people live below the poverty line and half the adults are illiterate really isn’t such a bad place.
The more facts we brought up that showed how terrible it is in Detroit the more upset they got.

Hang on a sec. I have absolutely nothing against people who live in Detroit. In fact I empathize with them.
I think their ancestors are rolling over in their graves seeing what goes on today. I've been very fortunate in my life .... i consider myself middle to middle upper class. My wife and I both have 2 university degrees each. On my side this never would have been possible without the work of unions in Canada ... i'm the first male on either side of my family not to work in a steel mill.
I always ask myself why i was born into the family with the uneducated parents who happened to catch a few breaks. This whole he who works the hardest will succeed the most is such a crock of shit.
Vent over.

Detroit is the most dangerous city in the United States. Of course that’s only if you are going by current facts. If you are using outdated data or just flat out making stuff up it could be anything.

Guyiswise is right. Most people of prominence don't live in Detroit but do get out in R.O., Birmingham, and even Ferndale now. But according to shooter these parts of Metro Detroit don't count as Detroit. Because incorporating the stats on these people wouldn't make Detroit nearly as bad even though they are 5-10 minutes from the border of Detroit. But if we included them in the stats Detroit doesn't nearly look so bad. People have also started going out downtown in areas like Greektown, Mexican Village, and to the Old Shelagleihs. Let alone Tigers, Wings, and Lions games. But all of these people are suburbanites and they don't count towards the stats that shooter lives by and refuses to understand that it represents a whole 18% of Wayne, Macomb and Oakland Counties.
Here is a reason why I like Detroit and why, imo, it isn't the worst city in America: 4 pro sports teams, two division 1 hoops teams(Oakland and U of D), Michigan and MSU and hour or so away. Plenty of shows, concerts, and nature within a reasonable drive. Lots of golf courses and indoor driving ranges. If your into boats there is plenty of accessible water. Three casinos if you don't feel like flying to Vegas, one more if you cross the river into Canada. If your 19 or 20 you can drive to Windsor and drink legally. Motor City bowl or whatever they call it now. Etc. All sorts of shit to do either in the city or within a reasonable drive from the city.

For about the 6th time: every major city would have better stats if you included all the surrounding suburbs. That doesn’t excuse the incredible number and degree of problems Detroit has.
Everything you described except for the casinos and large body of water can be found in pretty much every major US city.
But I did find your post to be pretty funny.“Well we might have the most violent and dangerous city in the country where half the people live below the poverty line and half the adults can’t read or write, but hey, at least we have 4 pro sports teams.”
That’s like your son being a serial killer and you’re talking about how he's not that bad because he has a great head of hair.

Dude, you talk out of your ass all day and all night. As the article states:
The FBI warns against simplistic analyses of its local crime data because the factors affecting crime rates are so complex and vary by area.
Other lists from 2011 put St. Louis at the top dangerous U.S. cities. But you've got a raging hard on for Detroit.

Last year, CQ Press ranked Detroit as the second most-dangerous city in America behind St. Louis. Two years ago, Forbes named Detroit as the most dangerous -- although that same publication later ranked Detroit as one of the most safest.
I'll take the FBI's advice on this. I'll leave the simplistic analysis to SS. His out-of-his-ass trash-talk is no different than what often passes for capping in the betting forums on this site.

Shooter for the sixth time I don't give a fuck about your interpretation of a some stats the pertain to a place you have been for four days in your life. Actually most of the stuff I mentioned can only be found in a hand full of places in America and most of them would actually consider the surrounding suburbs as part of their community. Where the fuck do you live anyway? On an island? Utopia? I don't give a fuck if you like Detroit or not. I would much rather be there with things to do all the time than in Seattle or Atlanta where they can't hold pro sports teams. I would much rather be in Detroit than in the middle of nowhere so that my favorite musical artist might perform a show within driving distance of me. Like I said Detroit, and to a further extent Michigan, still has a lot more to offer than most places. And if you're in to hanging out with poverty stricken, illiterate, crack smoking, crime committing people you can do that too.

Actually now that I think about it, I was in West Hollywood on Saturday and walked by a few places that would show up on a show like "Entourage", you know places that someone would consider really nice. And then I would literally go a block over and it would be a total shit hole with bums asking me for money or just camping out on the street. I don't know how people live in L.A.

I talked about this in one of the Yanks/Tigers ingames. Are they for real with this thing? I also noticed how everyone in the chrysler 300 commerical is white. EVERYONE. Get the fuck out of here.
Yet I mainly see black people driving them.

Shooter sounds like a little kid. "most of the stuff you mentioned can be found anywhere except large bodies of water, four pro sports teams, major college teams within a reasonable drive, major concerts and show, etc" yeah except all of those things combined aren't found in most cities in America. But you go ahead and stay focused in your stats, I will go ahead and enjoy life. You go ahead and give ideas and reasons to help solve crime and poverty, I'll go to a concert or a game or a casino or fishing or maybe I will rob a family member of yours since I guess were all so good at it. Lol. I'm guessing you live I'm San Francisco? I've never been there but it seems stereotypically like the place you would be from. I'm just going off stats.

Yup, all the stats were made up by people that are jealous of the Tigers and Lions.Detroit is really a wonderful and safe place to live.
Keep telling yourself that, kid.

You have my condolences.
