"Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang" is a 1993 hit song by American gangsta rapper Dr. Dre, from his debut solo album, The Chronic. It features rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg and is the first single from the album. "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang" reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 (Informer by Snow topped the charts when the song went to its highest peak on the week of March 20, 1993)^[1], outperforming The Chronic's other singles "Fuck wit Dre Day (and Everybody's Celebratin')" (number 8) and "Let Me Ride" (number 34). The single also reached number one on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. It was also a hit in the UK, where it reached number 31. The Song was selected by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 500 songs that shaped Rock and roll^[2]

The premise of the video concerns a parody character of Eazy-E called "Sleazy-E", complete with a Jheri Curl hairstyle and wearing dark sunglasses (played by A.J. Johnson), getting a new contract from a man depicted as a fat,money-grubbing record producer (played by a real life executive producer from Interscope Records, Steve Berman^{[citation needed]}). The story features Dr. Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg walking around and gaining a following from others around them. There is an interlude in the middle of the video, where Sleazy-E introduces his two new grotesque protégés (played by Bushwick Bill and Warren G) to his new manager. Sleazy appears in a number of situations, including being shot, becoming homeless, being chased by armed men, and finally, on the Pasadena freeway with a sign: "Will Rap for Food". The video also parodies Luke Campbell as a gap toothed rapper letting other men give him "anal" sex.

In April 2005 the video was twelfth on MTV2 and XXL magazine's survey of the "25 Greatest West Coast Videos".^[1]

"Let Me Ride" is the third single released by Dr. Dre from his 1992 album The Chronic. It experienced moderate success on the charts until it became a hit after Dr. Dre won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance during the Grammy Awards of 1994. Snoop Doggy Dogg is involved for a "Rollin' in my 6-4" phrase that transmits the verses into the chorus and in some background vocals. The vocals are sung by Ruben and Jewell, and the lyrics were ghostwritten by RBX, who explains how Dr. Dre came to use the lyrics (which RBX had originally written for a different track), in the book How to Rap^[1].

This single helped The Chronic go triple platinum (3+ million copies sold). It has several samples mixed into the song from Parliament's "Mothership Connection (Star Child)", James Brown's "Funky Drummer" and Bill Withers's 1972 hit "Kissin' My Love".

The track wasn't listed on the first edition of The Chronic. The album was re-released in 2001 with the track listed.

According to a Behind The Boards interview on Shade 45, Eminem on Sirius Satellite Radio, Eminem wrote the song with Snoop Dogg in mind “Originally I had planned to see if Snoop would do the chorus.. I thought it would be crazy if like.. I had the middle verse, Snoop did the chorus..”.^[2]

The line "Who you think brought you the OGs, Eazy-Es, Ice Cubes, and The D.O.C.s, the Snoop D-O-double-Gs, and the group that said 'Motherfuck the police'?" outlines Dre's importance in the rap world, the theme of the song.

Eminem's verse features the bizarre violence and aggression typical of his "Slim Shady" alter ego, describing him choking a pedestrian ("One day I was walkin' by with a Walkman on/When I caught a guy givin' me an awkward eye/So I strangled him off in the parking lot with his Karl Kani") and threatening to kill a woman ("Fuck you, too, bitch, call the cops/I'ma kill you and them loud-ass motherfuckin' barkin' dogs"), as well as bragging about how he gets out of trouble, in conflict with the law ("And when the cops came through/Me and Dre stood next to a burnt down house with a can full of gas and handful of matches/And still weren't found out (right here!)")

"The Next Episode" is a single by Dr. Dre released in 2000 from his album 2001, which was released in 1999. It features Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, & Kurupt (the latter two uncredited). Dre's verse was written by then Aftermath artist, Hittman. This single's title harkens back to Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's classic smash hit "Nuthin' But a "G" Thang" from Dre's 1992 solo debut The Chronic in which Snoop Dogg instructs listeners at the end of the chorus to, "just chill, 'til the next episode," (the line itself being a reference to the song "It's My Thang," from the EPMD album Strictly Business) which in fact did not refer to this single but its predecessor, a leftover song from 1993 originally recorded for Doggystyle, but unincluded in its final version.^[1]

Originally listed on the back cover of Doggystyle as "Tha Next Episode." The original version of the song was by Snoop Dogg featuring Dr. Dre, and had a much different beat and different lyrics. The original was 4:36 long, and referred to Dr. Dre's "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang" numerous times. The background of the original was later used in Warren G's 'Runnin' Wit No Breaks' on the Regulate...G Funk Era album.

The song's main sample interpolates David McCallum's "The Edge," borrowing from a brief segment at the beginning of the song, repeated in the middle of the song and in the end sequence.

The song was sampled by R&B trio City High for their 2001 hit "What Would You Do."

It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 2001 for Dre and Snoop. The award, however, went to Dre and Eminem for "Forgot About Dre".

The edit released for radio and music channels was heavily edited and had many re-recorded lines.

Barry Bonds used the instrumental section before the first vocals as his plate appearance music for a period of time during the 2000s.

The song is listed at #306 on Pitchfork's greatest songs of the 2000s.
