Culture club - Do you really want to hurt me

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmQVWH9u8Xo

"Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" was the third single released by the Culture Club and the first single released in the USA and Canada. The song was picked up by BBC Radio 2 and became a UK number one single for three weeks in October 1982. The song reached number two on the American Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in March 1983 (kept from the number one spot by Michael Jackson's smash hit "Billie Jean") and number one in the Canadian RPM listing on the 5th of the same month.[1] It was also number one in Australia.

This was Culture Club's first success, after their first two releases, "White Boy" and "I'm Afraid Of Me" charted in the UK at #114 and #100 respectively. By George's stories, it was their last chance to get an album deal. Helen Terry mentioned that her backing vocals were recorded on May 24, 1982.

The B-side was a dub version in many countries and "You Know I'm Not Crazy" on the USA release. On the 12" version of the record, the track "Love Is Cold (You Were Never No Good)" was also included.

The video for the song featured lead singer Boy George. One band member, Mikey Craig was not in the video, and was replaced by his brother Greg.

The song was remixed by DJ's Quivver and Kinky Roland, in 1998 for a Culture Club compilation called "Greatest Moments" and the single "I Just Wanna Be Loved". It was also remixed and presented on Culture Club's 2002 Box Set along with the original demo version.

Re-released in a reggaeton remix in France, it was again a top 20 hit in the summer of 2005. The music video was shot & directed by J.G Biggs. Famous French gay figure Steevy Boulay plays a garage owner who is victim of an homophobic client.

    Culture Club - Karma Chameleon

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmcA9LIIXWw

"Karma Chameleon" is a song by British New Wave band Culture Club, featured on the group's 1983 album Colour by Numbers. The song spent three weeks at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1984, becoming the group's biggest hit and only US number one. "Karma Chameleon" hit number one in sixteen countries worldwide. In the group's home country, it became the second Culture Club single to reach the top of the UK singles chart (after "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me"), where it stayed for six weeks in September and October 1983, and became the biggest-selling single of 1983.[1] It is widely regarded as Culture Club's signature song.

In an interview, Culture Club frontman Boy George explained: "The song is about the terrible fear of alienation that people have, the fear of standing up for one thing. It's about trying to suck up to everybody. Basically, if you aren't true, if you don't act like you feel, then you get Karma-justice, that's nature's way of paying you back."[2]

The prominent harmonica part was played by Judd Lander, who had been a member of Merseybeat group The Hideaways in the 1960s. The song was originally to be called "Cameo Chameleon". The band were recorded in interviews in mid 1983 stating this was to be the title of their next single.[3]

Likely because of the lyric "I'm a man without conviction," and the chorus, which includes the word chameleon, "Karma Chameleon" has been used by several politicians in political ads. In 2006, Britain's Labour Party used "Karma Chameleon" as the theme song for a series of political advertisements against Conservative party leader David Cameron in the 2006 UK Elections.[4] Also, during the 2010 U.S. senate race in Pennsylvania, Republican Pat Toomey used the song as backing music for his video "Happy Anniversary Arlen Specter!" as a way to criticize a sitting Senator from Pennsylvania and recently-turned Democrat Arlen Specter.[5]

The song won Best British Single at the 1984 Brit Awards. The group performed the song as a finale when they appeared in the 1986 episode "Cowboy George" of The A-Team.

    Culture Club - It's A Miracle

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YewVugPHon4

"It's a Miracle" is the fifth and final single from Culture Club's 1983 Colour by Numbers album. The song became the group's sixth top-five hit on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number four[1]. It reached number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100[citation needed] and hit the top five in Canada[2].

The B-side of the 7-inch single is a live rendition of "Love Twist", a track from their first album. It was recorded in December 1983. An additional live track, "Melting Pot" (a cover of the song by the group Blue Mink), from the same show was available on the 12-inch single.

The song was first called "It's America", relating to Culture Club's first trip to the United States. It was later changed.[citation needed]

The song appears as a cover in Dance Dance Revolution Extreme as "Miracle."

    Culture Club - I'll Tumble 4 Ya

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwb9-OlQimc

I'll Tumble 4 Ya" was a single from Culture Club's debut album Kissing to Be Clever.

The single was released only in North America, peaking at number nine in both the U.S. and Canada. With this single, in America, Culture Club was the first band to have three top-ten singles from a debut album since The Beatles.

"I'll Tumble 4 Ya" was one of the most performed songs by Culture Club in their live shows. It has appeared in every tour they did.[citation needed] The song is mocked by Frank Zappa during a live performance of Tinsel Town Rebellion. The track is featured on Zappa's "Does Humor Belong in Music?" album.

Culture Club - Church Of The Poison Mind

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVzAH0FtNwg

"Church of the Poison Mind" is a 1983 hit single for the British band Culture Club, and the first single to be released from their second album Colour by Numbers.

The song is appreciated partly for its Motown feel, and indeed, the opening of "Church of the Poison Mind" sounds similar to the Stevie Wonder hit, "Uptight (Everything's Alright)". Some have thought that Stevie Wonder plays the harmonica solo on this track[dubious – discuss], but in fact, it is a UK musician named Jud Lander[1].

The song was a Top 10 hit in the US and Canada and a top 3 hit the UK, peaking at #2 in the UK. In the USA, the song was still climbing the charts and peaked at #10 when "Karma Chameleon" was released overseas and became a huge hit. This prompted Epic Records to release "Karma" ahead of schedule, thus unintentionally hampered "Church of the Poison Mind"'s further climb up the top 10.[dubious – discuss] In the UK, it was kept off the top spot by David Bowie's "Let's Dance" for two weeks[2].

In many countries (like UK and Canada), its b-side was the heavily-percussive street song "Man Shake" and in some others, like USA, it was the song "Mystery Boy". Both songs were on the 12" in many countries, except Canada where it was issued with an extended version of previous hit "I'll Tumble 4 Ya".

In this single, Helen Terry became famous as the female backup singer with such a powerful voice[3].

Culture Club - Miss Me Blind

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFVuuRxM2VU

"Miss Me Blind" is a song by the 1980s pop band Culture Club. The song was released on the band's second album, Colour by Numbers, and it peaked at #5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in April 1984.[1]

The single was also released in Canada (where it also reached number 5), Brazil, Australia and Japan. However, it was not released as a single in the band's native United Kingdom.

The song includes a reference to the title of one of Culture Club's previous album. Lead singer Boy George states in the song "But you know, I'm never really sure, If you're just kissing to be clever", the name of Culture Club's debut album.

In most countries (like Japan, Canada and USA), its B-Side was the ballad "Colour by Numbers". In Mexico, the B-Side was "Victims". In Brazil, the B-Side was "Boy Boy (I'm The Boy)".

A very popular 12" was issued, gaining big success in American clubs and elsewhere. The popular extended 12" version contained extracts of the other Culture Club hit of the spring, "It's a Miracle". In the US, the "Miss Me Blind" / "It's a Miracle" 12" single reached #10 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in May 1984.[2]

The official music video features Boy George and the rest of the Culture Club members, and it takes place in Japan, and ends with a girl and a man yelling and trying to blow off a fire.

Backing vocals on "Miss Me Blind" were performed by R&B singer Jermaine Stewart.[1]

A remix of "Miss Me Blind" by DJs David Guetta and Joachim Garraud was included on Guetta's 2005 compilation album Fuck Me I'm Famous, Vol. 2.

    culture club - victims

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnRGS-l1-3A

"Victims" is a single from UK band Culture Club's album Colour by Numbers, released in 1983. As with most early Culture Club singles, the song is about Boy George's then publicly unknown relationship with drummer Jon Moss.

Although previous single "Karma Chameleon" had been a huge hit single in many countries, Victims only charted in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and Germany. It peaked at #3 on the UK singles chart. In Ireland it peaked at #2. In Australia it peaked at #4.

The single was not released in countries like United States, Canada and Japan, where they released Miss Me Blind instead. Reportedly Epic felt that the song was too depressing.

Its B-Side was the then unreleased track "Colour by Numbers", which is the title of the album but not included on it. An instrumental version was also issued on the 12", re-named "Romance Revisited". Both extra tracks are now available on the 2003 remastered version of Colour by Numbers

An early demo version of the song was released re-titled "Shirley Temple Moment" on the Culture Club Box Set. The track is a candid glimpse of the relationships within the band as they argue viciously amongst one another between takes, before Boy George finally walks out. It is notable also for the different lyrics which appear in the first verse:

"We love and we never tell what places our hearts in the wishing well / Strange lover I've never been, but you must be strong, you must come clean / And I keep on loving you, it's the only thing to do / There are stranger things, if I do those things, I'm a puppet king for you."

Boy George re-recorded the song himself, now as a solo artist, in a folk arrangement and with his older voice, in 2002. That version can be found on the Culture Club boxset that was out the same year.

To think I just wasted 2 hours of my precious life and  it all boils down to Boy George " I'll tumble for Ya"  This thread REALLY did have potential minus all the URBAN angle and similar b.s. that accompanies it

I was enlightened, educated, and entertained by MOST of the GBP contributions, especially Emma Bunton and PIXIE. Hugh's additions were enjoyable.
