Do any of you guys have 99cent stores in your area? You would not believe how much variety/value and selection is in these stores.

legwand:  I feel for you being broke, been there, done that.  It was not until the mid-seventies till my family had anything extra with both of us working.  Keep your head up, seek a part-time job.  Even at minimum wage you could supplement your food budget enough where you won't have to scrimp, just shop sensibly.  If you work M-F you could get something on weekends without ruining your life. Get rid of Verizon and get a pay as you go phone where you buy minutes ahead.  Learn to control the time spent on the phone.  Catch on to a fast-food job, there are a lot of women working there (not top quality, of course) but you could work off your shyness.  At KFC the usually give employees the chicken left when they close, I suppose things off the dinner bar if they have the buffet.  Good luck.

when i was poor in college and working in the mall, Sbarro's used to sell their slices for $1 a slice after 9pm so they wouldnt throw away any food

I ate 2 apples yesterday.  I already ate a yogurt today and its only 3pm

that slice is two thirds of his daily food budget 

i cook at least 80% of my own meals but theres no way i could go shy of 200 a month...no possible way...i can only eat noodles bread chicken and cheese for so long before i start to feel faint during the day.

and i am a huge proponent of grilled cheese, those liptons singles noodle packs or whatever are only a dollar a pop, campbells soup, eggs, potatoes, cereal, all the cheap shit, but five bucks a day would be a hundred and fifty dollars. and there is no way that is cutting it.

chicken is cheap but then you have to buy the marinate which is also a couple bucks.

bread is two dollars a loaf, cheese is like 5 a # so even if you make a grilled cheese, well you have to make at least 3 of them, but you are not escaping a meal for less than 2 dollars....

if you can make it work though, more power to ya.

I got an idea for you that would only run you $56(give or take) a month

 

And it wouldnt involve all that boxed shit,baloney, or other piss others have mentioned...You would be eating pizzas every day under this plan!

 

Hopefully you have some nice freezer space...wait for a special on a decent frozen pizza for 5 for $10 and unload on them...You could eat 1/2 for lunch and finish off the other 1/2 for supper...Piss on breakfast and for your drinks for the month just pound waters like someone else mentioned.

do you guys not have foodbanks in the States? or would that be the same thing as a food stamp? Were I live here in ontario, there is 3 food banks at the local churches, anybody can go to them, just walk in and they give u a box of food for the week

Yes sir, there are food banks everywhere down here. Last i heard, many were hurting pretty badly themselves though.

Grocery stores throw out a lot of food that is still good. Maybe you want to check into that. Of course it is not very glamorous to going through the stores trash, but it is free and there is plenty of it.

Getting samples at Costco is a good idea. You can easily have a lunch that way. Also I have seen people  just  sit in the pallets and have themselves a picnic, eating a tub of potato salad , making sandwiches out of the lunchmeat, cheese  and bread, and if they get caught, maybe they just say, "oh  I was starving , I was gonna pay for all of this stuff..."

You were born with hands and a brain and now its time to use them....I know you can eat for $50/month...easily. You will have to have some ingenuity though. Buy in bulk in BJ's wholesale or costco, peanutbutter and jelly, tuna etc. Drink water from the tap. Then go out to your back yard and dig for worms, buy a couple of hooks, and go fishing (everybody has a fishing rod). Also, I saw on the show Undercover Boss (on Sunday nights) that 7 11 donates their leftover food, bread, rolls etc on a daily basis. Walk into one of their sites and tell them you'll work a few hours/month in exchange for some of that food. I'm talking a job like taking out the trash, maybe some minor maintenance, or you may even get a part time job there a couple days/nights per week and you'll get paid and eat for free.
